O mandamento de obedecer e honrar os pais
A Bíblia define a obediência aos pais como um dever direto diante de Deus e uma fonte de bênção para o filho. O mandamento central do Novo Testamento está em Efésios 6:1-4, onde o apóstolo Paulo instrui os filhos a obedecerem "no Senhor", reafirmando o quinto mandamento do Decálogo como o primeiro acompanhado de uma promessa de vida longa e preservação.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), so that it may turn out well for you, and that you may live long on the earth.
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.(Ephesians 6:1-4)
A ordem se repete em Colossenses 3:20, que destaca o impacto espiritual dessa atitude: obedecer aos pais agrada ao Senhor. Essa orientação não começou no Novo Testamento, mas faz parte da aliança entregue no monte Sinai, registrada tanto em Êxodo 20:12 quanto na repetição da Lei em Deuteronômio 5:16.
Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing to the Lord.(Colossians 3:20)
"Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be prolonged on the land which the Lord your God gives you.(Exodus 20:12)
‘Honor your father and your mother, just as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that your days may be prolonged and that it may go well for you on the land which the Lord your God is giving you.(Deuteronomy 5:16)
A sabedoria em acolher a instrução
No livro de Provérbios, a obediência não é tratada como submissão cega, mas como a porta de entrada para a sabedoria prática. Quem ouve o ensino do pai e a instrução da mãe adquire prudência e evita caminhos destrutivos, como mostram os conselhos de Provérbios 1:8,9 e Provérbios 4:1-6.
Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction,
And do not ignore your mother’s teaching;
For they are a graceful wreath for your head
And necklaces for your neck.(Proverbs 1:8,9)
Listen, my sons, to the instruction of a father,
And pay attention so that you may gain understanding,
For I give you good teaching;
Do not abandon my instruction.
When I was a son to my father,
Tender and the only son in the sight of my mother,
He taught me and said to me,
"Let your heart take hold of my words;
Keep my commandments and live;
Acquire wisdom! Acquire understanding!
Do not forget nor turn away from the words of my mouth.
"Do not abandon her, and she will guard you;
Love her, and she will watch over you.(Proverbs 4:1-6)
Guardar as orientações paternas funciona como um guia contínuo no cotidiano (Provérbios 6:20-23), separando o filho sensato daquele que despreza a correção (Provérbios 13:1). Esse processo começa na infância, pela formação intencional da família (Provérbios 22:6).
My son, comply with the commandment of your father,
And do not ignore the teaching of your mother;
Bind them continually on your heart;
Tie them around your neck.
When you walk, they will guide you;
When you sleep, they will watch over you;
And when you awake, they will talk to you.
For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is light;
And rebukes for discipline are the way of life(Proverbs 6:20-23)
A wise son accepts his father’s discipline,
But a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.(Proverbs 13:1)
Train up a child in the way he should go,
Even when he grows older he will not abandon it.(Proverbs 22:6)
Honra na idade adulta e cuidado prático
Honrar pai e mãe vai além da infância e inclui o amparo material e emocional quando os pais envelhecem. Jesus denunciou os líderes religiosos que usavam tradições devocionais como pretexto para negar sustento financeiro aos pais idosos (Mateus 15:4). Da mesma forma, Paulo ensina que o dever primário da fé é cuidar dos próprios progenitores (1 Timóteo 5:4).
For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’ and, ‘The one who speaks evil of father or mother is tobe put to death.’(Matthew 15:4)
but if any widow has children or grandchildren, they must first learn to show proper respect for their own family and to give back compensation to their parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God.(1 Timothy 5:4)
As consequências do desprezo e da rebeldia
A Escritura trata a desonra deliberada aos pais como sintoma de corrupção moral grave. Provérbios adverte que desprezar a instrução e zombar dos pais atrai ruína pessoal e cegueira espiritual (Provérbios 20:20 e Provérbios 30:17).
He who curses his father or his mother,
His lamp will go out in time of darkness.(Proverbs 20:20)
The eye that mocks a father
And scorns a mother,
The ravens of the valley will pick it out,
And the young eagles will eat it.(Proverbs 30:17)
He who assaults his father and drives his mother away
Is a shameful and disgraceful son.(Proverbs 19:26)
A correção necessária no lar reflete o próprio cuidado de Deus, que disciplina aqueles a quem acolhe como filhos (Hebreus 12:7 e Provérbios 29:15). Na legislação civil do Israel antigo, a violência e a rebelião incorrigível contra os pais recebiam o juízo mais severo da comunidade (Êxodo 21:15 e Deuteronômio 21:18-21), demonstrando o peso que a ordem familiar tinha na preservação do povo.
The rod and a rebuke give wisdom,
But a child who gets his own way brings shame to his mother.(Proverbs 29:15)
It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?(Hebrews 12:7)
"And one who strikes his father or his mother shall certainly be put to death.(Exodus 21:15)
"If any person has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father or his mother, and when they discipline him, he does not listen to them, then his father and mother shall seize him, and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gateway of his hometown. And they shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he does not obey us, he is thoughtless and given to drinking.’ Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death; so you shall eliminate the evil from your midst, and all Israel will hear about it and fear.(Deuteronomy 21:18-21)
