10 Deeply hurt, Hannah prayed to the Lord and wept with many tears.  *11 Making a vow,  * she pleaded, "Lord of Armies, if you will take notice of your servant’s affliction,  * remember and not forget me, and give your servant a son, I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and his hair will never be cut."  *,*

12 While she continued praying in the Lord’s presence, Eli watched her mouth. 13 Hannah was praying silently,  * and though her lips were moving, her voice could not be heard. Eli thought she was drunk 14 and said to her, "How long are you going to be drunk?  * Get rid of your wine! "

15 "No, my lord," Hannah replied. "I am a woman with a broken heart. I haven’t had any wine or beer; I’ve been pouring out my heart before the Lord.  *16 Don’t think of me as a wicked woman;  * I’ve been praying from the depth of my anguish and resentment."  *

17 Eli responded, "Go in peace,  * and may the God of Israel grant the request you’ve made of him."  *

18 "May your servant find favor with you,"  * she replied. Then Hannah went on her way; she ate and no longer looked despondent.  *,*

19 The next morning Elkanah and Hannah got up early to worship before the Lord. Afterward, they returned home to Ramah.  * Then Elkanah was intimate with his wife Hannah, and the Lord remembered her.  *20 After some time,  * Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel,  * because she said, "I requested him from the Lord."

41 Elijah said to Ahab, "Go up, eat and drink, for there is the sound of a rainstorm."  *

42 So Ahab went to eat and drink, but Elijah went up to the summit of Carmel.  * He bent down on the ground and put his face between his knees.  *43 Then he said to his servant, "Go up and look toward the sea."

So he went up, looked, and said, "There’s nothing."

Seven times Elijah said, "Go back."

44 On the seventh  * time, he reported, "There’s a cloud as small as a man’s hand coming up from the sea."

Then Elijah said, "Go and tell Ahab, ‘Get your chariot ready and go down so the rain doesn’t stop you.’ "

45 In a little while, the sky grew dark with clouds and wind, and there was a downpour. So Ahab got in his chariot and went to Jezreel.  *

36 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane,  * and he told the disciples, "Sit here while I go over there and pray."37 Taking along Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled.  *38 He said to them, "I am deeply grieved*to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake with me."*39 Going a little farther,  * he fell facedown and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."*

40 Then he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. He asked Peter, "So, couldn’t you stay awake with me one hour?41 Stay awake and pray, so that you won’t enter into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."

42 Again, a second time, he went away and prayed, "My Father, if this*cannot pass*unless I drink it, your will be done."*43 And he came again and found them sleeping, because they could not keep their eyes open.

44 After leaving them, he went away again and prayed a third time, saying the same thing once more. 45 Then he came to the disciples and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? See, the time is near. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.*46 Get up; let’s go. See, my betrayer is near."
