Orgulho

Por Bíblia Online

O orgulho é um dos pecados mais condenados na Bíblia. Deus resiste aos soberbos, mas dá graça aos humildes. A humildade é o caminho da honra verdadeira.

Deus resiste ao soberbo

A soberba precede a ruína e o orgulho antecede a queda. Deus abomina o coração altivo e promete humilhar quem se exalta.

Pride goes before destruction,

And a haughty spirit before a fall.

Everyone who is proud and arrogant in heart is disgusting and exceedingly offensive to the Lord;

Be assured he will not go unpunished. [Prov 8:13; 11:20, 21]

There is a way which seems right to a man and appears straight before him,

But its end is the way of death.

"The [reverent] fear and worshipful awe of the Lordincludes the hatred of evil;

Pride and arrogance and the evil way,

And the perverted mouth, I hate.

When pride comes [boiling up with an arrogant attitude of self-importance], then come dishonor and shame,

But with the humble [the teachable who have been chiseled by trial and who have learned to walk humbly with God] there is wisdom and soundness of mind.

But with the humble [the teachable who have been chiseled by trial and who have learned to walk humbly with God] there is wisdom and soundness of mind.

A man’s pride and sense of self-importance will bring him down,

But he who has a humble spirit will obtain honor. [Prov 15:33; 18:12; Is 66:2; Dan 4:30; Matt 23:12; James 4:6, 10; 1 Pet 5:5]

Before disaster the heart of a man is haughty and filled with self-importance,

But humility comes before honor.

Before disaster the heart of a man is haughty and filled with self-importance,

But humility comes before honor.

The Lord will tear down the house of the proud and arrogant (self-righteous),

But He will establish and protect the boundaries [of the land] of the [godly] widow.

Humildade como caminho

Humilhai-vos diante do Senhor e Ele vos exaltará. A grandeza no Reino vem pelo serviço humilde, não pela autopromoção.

But He gives us more and more grace [through the power of the Holy Spirit to defy sin and live an obedient life that reflects both our faith and our gratitude for our salvation]. Therefore, it says, "God is opposed to the proudandhaughty, but [continually] gives [the gift of] grace to the humble [who turn away from self-righteousness]." [Prov 3:34]

Humble yourselves [with an attitude of repentance and insignificance] in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you [He will lift you up, He will give you purpose].

Let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position [as a born-again believer, called to the true riches and to be an heir of God]; and the rich man is to glory in being humbled [by trials revealing human frailty, knowing true riches are found in the grace of God], for like the flower of the grass he will pass away.

Likewise, you younger men [of lesser rank and experience], be subject to your elders [seek their counsel]; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another [tie on the servant’s apron], for God is opposed to the proud [the disdainful, the presumptuous, and He defeats them], but He gives grace to the humble. [Prov 3:34]

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God [set aside self-righteous pride], so that He may exalt you [to a place of honor in His service] at the appropriate time, [John 3:30] casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully]. [Ps 55:22]

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled [before others], and he who habitually humbles himself (keeps a realistic self-view) will be exalted."

Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit [through factional motives, or strife], but with [an attitude of] humility [being neither arrogant nor self-righteous], regard others as more important than yourselves. Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this same attitude in yourselves which was in Christ Jesus [look to Him as your example in selfless humility],

Os perigos do orgulho

O orgulho cega, gera contendas e afasta de Deus. A Escritura adverte contra a soberba da vida e a vã glória mundana.

For all that is in the worldthe lust and sensual craving of the flesh and the lust and longing of the eyes and the boastful pride of life [pretentious confidence in one’s resources or in the stability of earthly things]these do not come from the Father, but are from the world.

Therefore let the one who thinks he stands firm [immune to temptation, being overconfident and self-righteous], take care that he does not fall [into sin and condemnation].

If I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it does me no good at all.

God has selected [for His purpose] the insignificant (base) things of the world, and the things that are despised and treated with contempt, [even] the things that are nothing, so that He might reduce to nothing the things that are, so that no one may [be able to] boast in the presence of God.

However, "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord." [Jer 9:24] For it is not he who commends and praises himself who is approved [by God], but it is the one whom the Lord commends and praises.

And He said, "Whatever comes from [the heart of] a man, that is what defiles and dishonors him.For from within, [that is] out of the heart of men, come base and malevolent thoughts and schemes, acts of sexual immorality, thefts, murders, adulteries, acts of greed and covetousness, wickedness, deceit, unrestrained conduct, envy and jealousy, slander and profanity, arrogance and self-righteousness and foolishness (poor judgment). All these evil things [schemes and desires] come from within and defile and dishonor the man."

Through pride and presumption come nothing but strife,

But [skillful and godly] wisdom is with those who welcome [well-advised] counsel.

The reward of humility [that is, having a realistic view of one’s importance] and the [reverent, worshipful] fear of the Lord

Is riches, honor, and life. [Prov 21:21]

As for the rich in this present world, instruct them not to be conceited and arrogant, nor to set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly and ceaselessly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

O olhar de Deus

O Senhor não olha como o homem. Ele vê o coração e se agrada dos quebrantados de espírito e dos que tremem diante da sua Palavra.

But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."

"Do not go on boasting so very proudly,

Do not let arrogance come out of your mouth;

For the Lord is a God of knowledge,

And by Him actions are weighed (examined).

"For all these things My hand has made,

So all these things came into being [by and for Me]," declares the Lord.

"But to this one I will look [graciously],

To him who is humble and contrite in spirit, and who [reverently] trembles at My word and honors My commands. [John 4:24]

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and honor the King of heaven, for all His works are true and faithful and His ways are just, and He is able to humiliate and humble those who walk in [self-centered, self-righteous] pride."

The king of Israel answered, "Tell him, A man who puts on [his armor to go to battle] should not boast like the man who takes it off [after the battle has been won].’ "

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty [conceited, self-important, exclusive], but associate with humble people [those with a realistic self-view]. Do not overestimate yourself. [Prov 3:7]

But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.
