18 Pride goes before destruction,

And a haughty spirit before stumbling.

5 Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord;

*Be assured, he will not go unpunished.

6 But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, "God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

10 Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.

9 Now the brother or sister of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position; 10 but the rich person is to glory in his *humiliation, because like *flowering grass he will pass away.

5 You *younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God is opposed to the proud, but He gives grace to the humble.

6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 having cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares about you.

3 Do nothing *from *selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility consider one another as more important than yourselves; 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. 5 Have this attitude *in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,

16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

12 Therefore let the one who thinks he stands watch out that he does not fall.

3 And if I give away all my possessions to charity, and if I surrender my body so that I may *glory, but do not have love, it does me no good.

28 and the *insignificant things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, 29 so that no *human may boast before God.

17 But the one who boasts is to boast in the Lord. 18 For it is not the one who commends himself that is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.

20 And He was saying, "That which comes out of the person, that is what defiles the person.21 For from within, out of the *hearts of people, come the evil thoughts, acts of sexual immorality, thefts, murders, acts of adultery,22 deeds of greed, wickedness, deceit, indecent behavior, *envy, slander, *pride, and foolishness.23 All these evil things come from within and defile the person."

10 Through overconfidence *comes nothing but strife,

But wisdom is with those who receive counsel.

4 The reward of humility and*the fear of the Lord

Are riches, honor, and life.

17 Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.

7 But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for *God does not see as man sees, since man looks at *the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."

3 "Do not go on *boasting so very proudly,

Do not let arrogance come out of your mouth;

For the Lord is a God of knowledge,

And *with Him actions are weighed.

2 "For My hand made all these things,

So all these things came into being," declares the Lord.

"But I will look to this one,

At one who is humble and contrite in spirit, and who trembles at My word.

37 Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exalt, and honor the King of heaven, for all His works are *true and His ways *just; and He is able to humble those who walk in pride."

11 Then the king of Israel replied, "Tell him, ‘He who straps on his weapons had better not boast like one who takes them off.’ "

16 Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be *haughty in mind, but *associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
