A relação entre pais e filhos é uma das mais preciosas na Bíblia. Deus estabeleceu a família como escola de fé, amor e formação de caráter.
Honrar pai e mãe
Honrar os pais é o primeiro mandamento com promessa. Os filhos são chamados a obedecer, respeitar e cuidar de seus pais.
Honour thy father and thy mother, that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest live long on the good land, which the Lord thy God gives to thee.
Hearken, my son, to thy father which begot thee, and despise not thy mother because she is grown old.
He that dishonours his father, and drives away his mother, shall be disgraced and shall be exposed to reproach.
Instruir os filhos
Os pais devem instruir os filhos no caminho certo. A educação começa cedo, com disciplina amorosa e ensino constante da Palavra.
And these words, all that I command thee this day, shall be in thy heart and in thy soul. And thou shalt teach them to thy children, and thou shalt speak of them sitting in the house, and walking by the way, and lying down, and rising up.
Hear, my son, the instruction of thy father, and reject not the rules of thy mother. For thou shalt receive for thine head a crown of graces, and a chain of gold round thy neck.
Stripes and reproofs give wisdom: but an erring child disgraces his parents.
He that spares the rod hates his son: but he that loves, carefully chastens him.
Filhos como bênção
Os filhos são herança do Senhor. A coroa dos velhos são os filhos dos filhos, e a glória dos filhos são seus pais.
Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine on the sides of thy house: thy children as young olive-plants round about thy table.
Behold, thus shall the man be blessed that fears the Lord. May the Lord bless thee out of Sion; and mayest thou see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.
Children’s children are the crown of old men; and their fathers are the glory of children. The faithful has the whole world full of wealth; but the faithless not even a farthing.
A righteous father brings up his children well; and his soul rejoices over a wise son.
A wise son makes his father glad: but a foolish son is a grief to his mother.
But if it seem not good to you to serve the Lord, choose to yourselves this day whom ye will serve, whether the gods of your fathers that were on the other side of the river, or the gods of the Amorites, among whom ye dwell upon their land: but I and my house will serve the Lord, for he is holy.
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave to his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, and the sons shall not be put to death for the fathers; every one shall be put to death for his own sin.
