O que a Bíblia ensina sobre pais e filhos
A Bíblia resume a relação entre pais e filhos em dois compromissos mútuos: os pais instruem com firmeza e paciência, sem sufocar; os filhos respondem com obediência na juventude e amparo na velhice. O lar não é visto nas Escrituras como um espaço neutro, mas como o primeiro lugar onde o caráter e a fé são colocados em prática.
Honrar pai e mãe: da obediência ao amparo na velhice
O mandamento de honrar pai e mãe começa na infância por meio da escuta e da obediência, mas não termina quando o filho atinge a maioridade. Na vida adulta, essa honra se transforma em respeito contínuo e dever de assistência prática quando os pais envelhecem.
"Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be prolonged on the land which the Lord your God gives you.(Exodus 20:12)
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), so that it may turn out well for you, and that you may live long on the earth.(Ephesians 6:1-3)

Tanto os Provérbios quanto as cartas do Novo Testamento tratam o desprezo ou o desamparo aos pais idosos como uma quebra grave da fé. O cuidado com os pais na velhice é apresentado como uma resposta de gratidão e justiça dentro da família.

O papel dos pais: ensino diário sem provocar desânimo

Filhos como herança e o sustento da família
Na perspectiva bíblica, os filhos são recebidos como um dom e uma confiança dada pelo Senhor, não como um peso financeiro. Ao mesmo tempo, cabe aos chefes da casa prover com dedicação, servir de referência moral e assumir publicamente o compromisso de guiar a família nos caminhos de Deus.
