Pais e filhos
Honor thy av and thy em; that thy yamim may be long upon ha’adamah which Hashem Eloheicha giveth thee.
Yeladim, obey your horim (parents) in Adoneinu, for this is right. KABED ES AVICHA V’ES IMMECHA, which is the mitzvah harishonah with a havtacha, That it may be well with you and you will be a long time on ha’aretz.
Yeladim, obey your horim (parents) in all things, for this is well pleasing in Adoneinu.
Pay heed unto avicha that fathered thee,
and despise not immecha when she is old.
He that mistreateth his av, and driveth out his em,
is a ben that causeth shame, and bringeth cherpah.
He who curseth aviv or immo,
his ner (lamp) shall be put out in deep choshech.
But if any almanah has banim or bnei banim, let the banim or bnei banim learn first to show yirat Shomayim vis-a-vis their own bais and to render recompense to the horim (parents), for this is acceptable in the sight of Hashem.
Instruir os filhos
Os pais devem instruir os filhos no caminho certo. A educação começa cedo, com disciplina amorosa e ensino constante da Palavra.
Train up a na’ar in the derech (road) he should go,
and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
And these devarim, which I command thee today, shall be in thine lev; And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy banim, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine bais, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
Beni (my son), hear the musar Avicha,
and forsake not the Torat Immecha.
For they shall be a garland of chen unto thy rosh,
and a chain about thy neck.
And, Avot, do not provoke your yeladim to ka’as, but nurture them in the musar of Hashem and His tokhechah (reproof).
Avot, do not provoke your yeladim, lest they be disheartened.
The shevet (rod) and tokhakhat (reproof) give chochmah,
but a na’ar (child) left to himself bringeth immo to shame.
He that spareth his shevet (rod) hateth bno (his son),
but he that loveth him is diligent in his musar (discipline).
For you endure nisyonos for the sake of musar. And Hashem is dealing with you as banim. For what ben is there whom an Abba does not give musar?
Filhos como bênção
Os filhos são herança do Senhor. A coroa dos velhos são os filhos dos filhos, e a glória dos filhos são seus pais.
Hinei, banim are nachalat Hashem;
and the p’ri habeten is a zachar (reward).
As khitzim (arrows) are in the yad of a gibbor;
so are bnei haneurim (children born in oneʼs youth).
Ashrei hagever that hath his quiver full of them;
they shall not be ashamed,
but they shall speak with the oyevim basha’ar (enemy at the gate).
Bnei banim are the ateret of zekenim;
and the tiferet of banim are their avot.
Avi tzaddik (the father of a righteous one) shall greatly rejoice,
and he that fathereth a chacham shall have simchah in him.
The mishle (proverbs) of Sh’lomo.
A ben chacham maketh glad an av,
but a ben kesil is the grief of his em.
And what Abba among you is there who, if his ben asks for a dag (fish), instead of a dag (fish) will give to him a nachash (snake)? Or if the ben will ask for a beytzah (egg), will the av give him an akrav (scorpion)? If, therefore, you, though you are ra’im (evil ones), have da’as (knowledge) of how to give matanot tovot (good gifts) to your yeladim, how much more will HaAv sh’ba’Shomayim give the Ruach Hakodesh to the ones asking him.
But if anyone does not get a parnasah to provide for his own mishpochah and especially his own bais, he has denied the emunah and is worse than an Apikoros (skeptic, unbeliever).
And if it seem rah unto you to serve Hashem, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the elohim which Avoteichem served that were on the other side of the River, or the elohei HaEmori, in whose land ye dwell; but as for me and my bais, we will serve Hashem.
Therefore shall an ish leave his av and his em, and shall cleave unto his isha: and they shall be basar echad.
The avot shall not be put to death for the banim, neither shall the banim be put to death for the avot; every ish shall be put to death for his own chet.
