A paixão de Cristo
A paixão de Cristo é o ato de amor supremo da história. Jesus sofreu voluntariamente a cruz, carregando os pecados da humanidade para nos dar vida eterna.
O caminho da cruz
Jesus sabia o que o aguardava. Mesmo em agonia, submeteu-se à vontade do Pai e caminhou resolutamente para o Calvário.
From that time Jesus began to shew to his disciples that he must go away to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised.
Then he says to them, My soul is very sorrowful even unto death; remain here and watch with me.
and having been found in figure as a man, humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, and that the death of the cross.
Since therefore the children partake of blood and flesh, he also, in like manner, took part in the same, that through death he might annul him who has the might of death, that is, the devil; and might set free all those who through fear of death through the whole of their life were subject to bondage.
O sacrifício voluntário
Ninguém tirou a vida de Jesus — Ele a deu voluntariamente. Ele veio para servir e dar a sua vida em resgate por muitos.
On this account the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have authority to lay it down and I have authority to take it again. I have received this commandment of my Father.
For also the Son of man did not come to be ministered to, but to minister, and give his life a ransom for many.
And the chief priests and the whole sanhedrim sought testimony against Jesus to cause him to be put to death, and did not find any.
but God commends his love to us, in that, we being still sinners, Christ has died for us.
For to this have ye been called; for Christ also has suffered for you, leaving you a model that ye should follow in his steps: who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth; who, when reviled, reviled not again; when suffering, threatened not; but gave himself over into the hands of him who judges righteously; who himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, in order that, being dead to sins, we may live to righteousness: by whose stripes ye have been healed.
He is despised and left alone of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief, and like one from whom men hide their faces; — despised, and we esteemed him not.
Surely he hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; and we, we did regard him stricken, smitten of God and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed.
