Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection
From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised up.
Then Jesus said to them, "My soul is very sorrowful, even to the point of death; stay here and keep watch with me."
And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Therefore, since the children all have flesh and blood, Jesus himself took on flesh and blood as well, so that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by the fear of death.
O sacrifício voluntário
Ninguém tirou a vida de Jesus — Ele a deu voluntariamente. Ele veio para servir e dar a sua vida em resgate por muitos.
This is why the Father loves me, because I lay down my life so that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. I received this commandment from my Father."
For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Now the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were seeking testimony against Jesus so that they could put him to death, but they did not find any.
But God demonstrated his own love for us in that, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving an example so that you could follow in his footsteps. He committed no sin, nor was deceit found in his mouth. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten but entrusted himself to the one who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to our sins and live for righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
