11 And the Lord said to Moses, 12 "I *have heard the grumbling of the people of Israel. Say to them, ‘At *twilight you shall eat meat, and *in the morning you shall be filled with bread. Then you shall know that I am the Lord your God.’"

13 In the evening *quail came up and covered the camp, and in the morning *dew lay around the camp. 14 And when the dew had gone up, there was on the face of the wilderness a fine, flake-like thing, fine as frost on the ground. 15 When the people of Israel saw it, they said to one another, *"What is it?"* For they *did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, *"It is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat.

31 Now the house of Israel called its name *manna. It was *like coriander seed, white, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

23 Yet he commanded the skies above

and *opened the doors of heaven,

24 and he *rained down on them manna to eat

and gave them *the grain of heaven.

25 Man ate of the bread of *the angels;

he sent them food *in abundance.

14 You cause *the grass to grow for the livestock

and *plants for man to cultivate,

that he may bring forth *food from the earth

15 and *wine to gladden the heart of man,

*oil to make his face shine

and bread to *strengthen man’s heart.

32 Jesus then said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.33 For the bread of God is *he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."34 They said to him, *"Sir, give us this bread always."

35 Jesus said to them, *"I am the bread of life; *whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.

48 *I am the bread of life.49 *Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and *they died.50 *This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it *and not die.51 I am the living bread *that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give *for the life of the world is *my flesh."

3 And he humbled you and *let you hunger and *fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that *man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word* that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

4 But he answered, *"It is written,

*"‘Man shall not live by bread alone,

but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’"

19 *And he took bread, and *when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, *"This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me."

26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death *until he comes.

16 *The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? *The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? 17 Because there is one bread, we who are many are *one body, for we all partake of the one bread.

9 *Pray then like this:

*"Our Father in heaven,

*hallowed be *your name.*

10 *Your kingdom come,

*your will be done,*

*on earth as it is in heaven.

11 *Give us *this day our daily bread,*

9 *Whoever has a bountiful* eye will be blessed,

for he *shares his bread with the poor.

37 But he answered them, *"You give them something to eat." And *they said to him, *"Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii* worth of bread and give it to them to eat?" 38 And he said to them, "How many loaves do you have? Go and see." And when they had found out, they said, *"Five, and two fish." 39 Then he commanded them all to sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in groups, by hundreds and by fifties. 41 And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he *looked up to heaven and *said a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all. 42 And they all ate and were satisfied. 43 And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish.

25 I have been young, and now am old,

yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken

or his children *begging for bread.

The Leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees

5 When the disciples reached the other side, they had forgotten to bring any bread. 6 Jesus said to them, "Watch and *beware of *the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees."7 And they began discussing it among themselves, saying, "We brought no bread." 8 But *Jesus, aware of this, said, *"O you of little faith, why are you discussing among yourselves the fact that you have no bread?9 *Do you not yet perceive? Do you not remember *the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many baskets you gathered?10 Or *the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many baskets you gathered?11 How is it that you fail to understand that I did not speak about bread? *Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees."12 *Then they understood that he did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of *the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Cast Your Bread upon the Waters

1 *Cast your bread upon the waters,

*for you will find it after many days.

2 *Give a portion to *seven, or even to eight,

*for you know not what disaster may happen on earth.
