14 You will be blessed above all peoples; there will be no infertile male or female among you or your livestock.

7 But the Israelites were fruitful, increased rapidly, multiplied, and became extremely numerous  * so that the land was filled with them.

2 His descendants will be powerful in the land;

the generation of the upright will be blessed.  *

13 For it was you who created my inward parts;  *

you knit me together in my mother’s womb.  *

14 I will praise you

because I have been remarkably and wondrously made.  *,*

Your works are wondrous,

and I know this very well.  *

15 My bones were not hidden from you

when I was made in secret,

when I was formed in the depths of the earth.  *

16 Your eyes saw me when I was formless;

all my days were written in your book and planned

before a single one of them began.  *

3 Sons are indeed a heritage from the  Lord,

offspring, a reward.  *

9 "Will I bring a baby to the point of birth

and not deliver it? "

says the Lord;

"or will I who deliver, close the womb? "

says your God.

13 I am able to do all things through him  * who strengthens me.  *

9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power*is perfected in weakness."*

Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me.

2 Listen closely to me; rescue me quickly.

Be a rock of refuge for me,

a mountain fortress to save me.  *

2 I call to you from the ends of the earth

when my heart is without strength.  *

Lead me to a rock that is high above me,  *

11 He protects his flock like a shepherd;  *

he gathers the lambs in his arms

and carries them in the fold of his garment.

He gently leads those that are nursing.

3 "Listen to me, house of Jacob,

all the remnant of the house of Israel,

who have been sustained from the womb,

carried along since birth.

4 I will be the same until your old age,  *

and I will bear you up when you turn gray.

I have made you, and I will carry you;

I will bear and rescue you.

15 But she will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness,  * with good sense.

28 Her children rise up and call her blessed;

Cain Murders Abel

1 The man was intimate with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain. She said, "I have had a male child with the Lord’s help."  *

The Birth of Isaac

1 The Lord came to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised.  *2 Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time God had told him.  *

21 Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife because she was childless.  * The Lord was receptive to his prayer, and his wife Rebekah conceived.  *

20 After some time,  * Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel,  * because she said, "I requested him from the Lord."

The Protection of the Most High

1 The one who lives under the protection of the Most High

dwells in the shadow of the Almighty.  *

2 I will say  * concerning the  Lord, who is my refuge and my fortress,

my God in whom I trust:  *

7 The Lord will protect you from all harm;

he will protect your life.  *

8 The Lord will protect your coming and going

both now and forever.  *

5 I chose you before I formed you in the womb;

I set you apart before you were born.  *

I appointed you a prophet to the nations.  *

22 "When men get in a fight and hit a pregnant woman so that her children are born prematurely but there is no injury, the one who hit her must be fined as the woman’s husband demands  * from him, and he must pay according to judicial assessment. 23 If there is an injury, then you must give life for life,

15 "Can a woman forget her nursing child,

or lack compassion for the child of her womb?

Even if these forget,

yet I will not forget you.

11 By faith even Sarah herself, when she was unable to have children, received power to conceive offspring, even though she was past the age, since she  * considered that the one who had promised was faithful.  *

45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill what he has spoken to her! "

Mary’s Praise

46 And Mary said:

My soul magnifies the Lord,  *

47 and my spirit rejoices  * in God my Savior,  *

48 because he has looked with favor

on the humble condition of his servant.

Surely, from now on all generations

will call me blessed,  *

49 because the Mighty One  *

has done great things for me,  *

and his name  * is holy.

9 He gives the childless woman a household,

making her the joyful mother of children.  *

Hallelujah!

16 I will bless her; indeed, I will give you a son by her.  * I will bless her, and she will produce nations; kings of peoples will come from her."

3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine

within your house,

your children, like young olive trees

around your table.  *
