The Love Motivation

15 So when they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these [others do—with total commitment and devotion]?" And he said to Him, "Lord, You know everything; You know that I love You [with a deep, personal affection, as for a close friend]." Jesus said to him, "Feed My sheep.

28 Peter replied to Him, "Lord, if it is [really] You, command me to come to You on the water." 29 He said, "Come!" So Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw [the effects of] the wind, he was frightened, and he began to sink, and he cried out, "Lord, save me!" 31 Immediately Jesus extended His hand and caught him, saying to him, "O you of little faith, why did you *doubt?"

Peter’s Denials

54 Then they seized Him, and led Him away and brought Him to the [elegant] house of the [Jewish] *high priest. And Peter was following at a [safe] distance. 55 After they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat among them. [Matt 26:69-75; Mark 14:66-72; John 18:16-18, 25-27] 56 And a servant-girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight and looking intently at him, said, "This man was with Him too." 57 But Peter denied it, saying, "Woman, I do not know Him!" 58 A little later someone else saw him and said, "You are one of them too." But Peter said, "Man, I am not!" 59 After about an hour had passed, another man began to insist, "This man was with Him, for he is a Galilean too." 60 But Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you are talking about." Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed. 61 The Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, "Before a rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times."62 And he went out and wept bitterly [deeply grieved and distressed].
