A relação entre Jesus e Pedro é uma das mais profundas e significativas do Novo Testamento. Pedro, originalmente um pescador chamado Simão, foi escolhido por Jesus para ser um dos seus discípulos mais próximos e líder entre os apóstolos.

1. Chamado à liderança com humildade
Jesus confiou a Pedro a missão de cuidar da sua Igreja, mas ensinou que a verdadeira liderança é servidora, baseada na humildade e no amor (João 21:15-17).
And when they had eaten, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon of John, lovest thou me more than these? He saith to him, Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith to him, Feed thou my lambs.
Again he saith to him, Simon of John, lovest thou me? He saith to him, Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him, Feed thou my lambs.
He saith to him the third time, Simon of John, lovest thou me? Peter was heavy, [or sorry], for he said to him the third time, Lovest thou me, and he saith to him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith to him, Feed my sheep.
2. Fé que supera as dúvidas
Apesar de momentos de medo e dúvidas, como quando tentou andar sobre as águas, Pedro foi ensinado a confiar plenamente em Jesus (Mateus 14:28-31).
And Peter answered, and said, Lord, if thou art, command me to come to thee on the waters.
And he said, Come thou. And Peter went down from the boat, and walked on the waters to come to Jesus.
But he saw the wind strong, and was afeared; and when he began to drench or drown, he cried, and said, Lord, make me safe.
And anon Jesus held forth his hand, and took Peter, [or caught him], and said to him, Thou of little faith, why hast thou doubted?
3. Arrependimento e perdão
Quando negou Jesus três vezes, Pedro experimentou o perdão divino, aprendendo que o amor de Deus restaura e renova mesmo após falhas (Lucas 22:54-62).
And they took him, and led to the house of the prince of priests; and Peter pursued him afar.
And when a fire was kindled in the middle of the great house, and they sat about, Peter was in the middle of them.
Whom when a damsel, [or a handmaid/a handmaiden], had seen sitting at the light, and had beheld him, she said, And this was with him.
And he denied him, and said, Woman, I know him not.
And after a little another man saw him, and said, And thou art of them. But Peter said, A! man, I am not.
And when a space was made as of one hour, another affirmed, and said, Truly this was with him; for also he is of Galilee.
And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And anon yet while he spake, the cock crew.
And the Lord turned again [or And the Lord turned], and beheld Peter; and Peter had mind of the word of Jesus, as he had said, Before that the cock crow, thrice thou shalt deny me.
And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
4. Coragem para testemunhar
Após a ressurreição, Pedro tornou-se um pregador corajoso do Evangelho, mostrando que Jesus o fortaleceu para cumprir sua missão (Atos 2).
