Qual a relação entre o velho Testamento e o Novo Testamento?

Muitas pessoas, ao abrirem a Bíblia, se deparam com uma divisão clara: Velho Testamento e Novo Testamento. Mas afinal, qual é a relação entre essas duas partes das Escrituras? Será que o Velho Testamento ainda é relevante para os cristãos? E como o Novo Testamento se conecta com os escritos antigos?
A resposta está no próprio coração da Bíblia: Jesus Cristo é o elo perfeito entre as duas alianças.
O Velho Testamento aponta para Cristo
Desde o início, o Velho Testamento prepara o caminho para o Messias prometido. Os sacrifícios, as profecias, as festas judaicas e até mesmo as leis tinham um propósito: revelar a santidade de Deus e a necessidade de redenção.
Jesus declarou sobre isso:
"You have your heads in your Bibles constantly because you think you’ll find eternal life there. But you miss the forest for the trees. These Scriptures are all about me! And here I am, standing right before you, and you aren’t willing to receive from me the life you say you want.
O Antigo Testamento, portanto, não é desatualizado – ele é o fundamento que sustenta a revelação do Novo Testamento.
O Novo Testamento cumpre o que o Velho Testamento prometeu
Jesus não veio para anular a Lei ou os Profetas, mas para cumpri-los:
Completing God’s Law
"Don’t suppose for a minute that I have come to demolish the Scriptures—either God’s Law or the Prophets. I’m not here to demolish but to complete. I am going to put it all together, pull it all together in a vast panorama. God’s Law is more real and lasting than the stars in the sky and the ground at your feet. Long after stars burn out and earth wears out, God’s Law will be alive and working.
No Novo Testamento, vemos a concretização das promessas de Deus feitas no Antigo: o nascimento virginal de Jesus (Isaías 7:14), seu sofrimento e morte (Salmos 22; Isaías 53), e a nova aliança selada pelo Seu sangue (Jeremias 31:31).
As duas alianças revelam o plano eterno de Deus
O apóstolo Paulo explica que a Lei foi uma "instrutora" para nos conduzir a Cristo:
Until the time when we were mature enough to respond freely in faith to the living God, we were carefully surrounded and protected by the Mosaic law. The law was like those Greek tutors, with which you are familiar, who escort children to school and protect them from danger or distraction, making sure the children will really get to the place they set out for.
Enquanto o Antigo Testamento mostra o padrão de Deus e a incapacidade humana de cumpri-lo por si só, o Novo revela a graça de Deus e a salvação pela fé em Jesus.
Ambos os testamentos revelam o mesmo Deus, o mesmo amor e o mesmo plano de salvação, agora revelado plenamente em Cristo.
Velho e Novo Testamento: unidade e continuidade
A Bíblia não é um livro dividido, mas uma história contínua. Do Gênesis ao Apocalipse, vemos um único enredo: Deus redimindo a humanidade através de Jesus.
Por isso, é essencial que o cristão estude e valorize os dois testamentos. Cada parte da Bíblia nos ensina, exorta e revela o caráter de Deus.
But don’t let it faze you. Stick with what you learned and believed, sure of the integrity of your teachers—why, you took in the sacred Scriptures with your mother’s milk! There’s nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.
Conclusão
A relação entre o Velho e o Novo Testamento é profunda, harmoniosa e indispensável. O Velho prepara o caminho; o Novo revela o cumprimento. Juntos, formam a Palavra viva de Deus, que transforma, ilumina e conduz à verdade.
