Seguir a Jesus é o convite mais transformador da Bíblia. Jesus chamou pescadores, cobradores de impostos e pessoas comuns para deixar tudo e segui-lo. Esse chamado continua vivo hoje.
O chamado de Jesus
Jesus disse: 'Segue-me'. Esse convite simples e poderoso mudou a vida de pescadores, publicanos e pessoas comuns ao longo da história.
Jesus said to them, "Come with me, and I will teach you to catch people." At once they left their nets and went with him.
Jesus Calls Matthew
Jesus left that place, and as he walked along, he saw a tax collector, named Matthew, sitting in his office. He said to him, "Follow me."
Matthew got up and followed him.
Jesus Calls Philip and Nathanael
The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, "Come with me!" (
The Would-Be Followers of Jesus
As they went on their way, a man said to Jesus, "I will follow you wherever you go."
Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lie down and rest."
He said to another man, "Follow me."
But that man said, "Sir, first let me go back and bury my father."
Jesus answered, "Let the dead bury their own dead. You go and proclaim the Kingdom of God."
Someone else said, "I will follow you, sir; but first let me go and say good-bye to my family."
Jesus said to him, "Anyone who starts to plow and then keeps looking back is of no use for the Kingdom of God."
O custo do discipulado
Seguir a Jesus exige renúncia. É preciso tomar a cruz diariamente, deixar tudo para trás e amar a Cristo acima de qualquer outro vínculo.
Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If any of you want to come with me, you must forget yourself, carry your cross, and follow me.
"Those who come to me cannot be my disciples unless they love me more than they love father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and themselves as well. Those who do not carry their own cross and come after me cannot be my disciples.
Then Peter spoke up, "Look, we have left everything and followed you."
"Yes," Jesus said to them, "and I tell you that those who leave home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and for the gospel, will receive much more in this present age. They will receive a hundred times more houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and fields—and persecutions as well; and in the age to come they will receive eternal life. But many who are now first will be last, and many who are now last will be first."
Caminhar com Cristo
Quem segue a Jesus não anda em trevas, mas tem a luz da vida. Ele nos convida a crescer nele e a servir como Ele serviu.
Jesus the Light of the World
Jesus spoke to the Pharisees again. "I am the light of the world," he said. "Whoever follows me will have the light of life and will never walk in darkness."
Whoever wants to serve me must follow me, so that my servant will be with me where I am. And my Father will honor anyone who serves me.
It was to this that God called you, for Christ himself suffered for you and left you an example, so that you would follow in his steps. He committed no sin, and no one ever heard a lie come from his lips. When he was insulted, he did not answer back with an insult; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but placed his hopes in God, the righteous Judge.
Instead, by speaking the truth in a spirit of love, we must grow up in every way to Christ, who is the head.
Obey my laws and do what I command. I am the Lord your God.
