And if it seem evil unto you to serve Jehovah, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods whom your fathers that were on the other side of the river served, or the gods of the Amorite, in whose land ye dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve Jehovah.(Joshua 24:15)
And now, Israel, what doth Jehovah thy God require of thee, but to fear Jehovah thy God to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve Jehovah thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, to keep the commandments of Jehovah, and his statutes, which I command thee this day, for thy good?(Deuteronomy 10:12,13)
as to diligent zealousness, not slothful; in spirit fervent; serving the Lord.(Romans 12:11)
Only, take great heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded you, to love Jehovah your God and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.(Joshua 22:5)
Ye shall walk after Jehovah your God and ye shall fear him, and his commandments shall ye keep, and his voice shall ye hear; and ye shall serve him, and unto him shall ye cleave.(Deuteronomy 13:4)
how much rather shall the blood of the Christ, who by the eternal Spirit offered himself spotless to God, purify your conscience from dead works to worship the living God?(Hebrews 9:14)
Jesus como modelo de servo
Cristo redefiniu o conceito de grandeza. Enquanto o mundo associa autoridade ao domínio sobre os outros, Jesus lavou os pés dos discípulos e colocou a própria vida à disposição da humanidade:
For also the Son of man did not come to be ministered to, but to minister, and give his life a ransom for many.(Mark 10:45)
It shall not be thus amongst you, but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your servant; and whosoever will be first among you, let him be your bondman;(Matthew 20:26,27)
If I therefore, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another’s feet;(John 13:14)
And sitting down he called the twelve; and he says to them, If any one would be first, he shall be last of all, and minister of all.(Mark 9:35)
as indeed the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.(Matthew 20:28)
Servir a Deus cuidando do próximo
A devoção a Deus se expressa diretamente nas relações cotidianas. O apóstolo Paulo explica que a liberdade trazida pelo evangelho não é desculpa para o egoísmo, mas uma oportunidade para se colocar a serviço das necessidades alheias:
For ye have been called to liberty, brethren; only do not turn liberty into an opportunity to the flesh, but by love serve one another.(Galatians 5:13)
as free, and not as having liberty as a cloak of malice, but as God’s bondmen.(1 Peter 2:16)
If any one serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there also shall be my servant. And if any one serve me, him shall the Father honour.(John 12:26)
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and will love the other, or he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.(Matthew 6:24)
Neither yield your members instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but yield yourselves to God as alive from among the dead, and your members instruments of righteousness to God.(Romans 6:13)
A fidelidade e a promessa do Senhor
Muitas vezes o serviço diário é silencioso e não recebe reconhecimento humano. A Escritura ensina que Deus conhece a dedicação de quem permanece fiel nas pequenas tarefas e que nenhuma dedicação feita a Ele se perde:
His lord said to him, Well, good and faithful bondman, thou wast faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things: enter into the joy of thy lord.(Matthew 25:21)
So then, my beloved brethren, be firm, immovable, abounding always in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.(1 Corinthians 15:58)
Every scripture is divinely inspired, and profitable for teaching, for conviction, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; that the man of God may be complete, fully fitted to every good work.(2 Timothy 3:16,17)
The steps of a man are established by Jehovah, and he delighteth in his way:(Psalms 37:23)
Jehovah redeemeth the soul of his servants; and none of them that trust in him shall bear guilt.(Psalms 34:22)
