Sofrimento
People despised him and rejected him. He was a man who really suffered and who experienced the deepest pain. We treated him like someone you turn away from in disgust—we despised him and had no respect for him.
However, he was the one who took up our weaknesses and loaded himself down with our pain—but we assumed he was being hit, beaten, and humiliated by God.
They stripped him and put a scarlet cloak on him. They made a crown of thorns and placed it on his head, and put a stick in his right hand. They kneeled down in front of him and mocked him, saying, "We salute you, King of the Jews!"
In fact this is what you were called to do, because Christ suffered for you and gave you an example, so you should follow in his footsteps.
I want to really know him, and the power of his resurrection—to take part in his suffering and become like him in his death,
O propósito do sofrimento
Deus usa as tribulações para produzir perseverança, caráter e esperança. O sofrimento presente não se compara com a glória que será revelada.
Not only this—we also remain confident when problems come, because we know that experiencing problems develops spiritual stamina. Spiritual stamina in turn develops a mature character, and this mature character results in confident hope.
Yet I'm convinced that what we suffer in the present is nothing compared to the future glory that will be revealed to us.
These trivial troubles we have only last for a little while, but they produce for us an ever-increasing degree of glory.
The more we share in Christ's sufferings, the more we receive the abundant comfort of Christ.
For you have been given the privilege not only of trusting in Jesus, but suffering for him as well.
Since Christ suffered physically, you must prepare yourselves with the same attitude he had—for those who suffer physically have turned away from sin.
Consolação e companhia
Deus consola os aflitos para que possamos consolar outros. Nunca estamos sozinhos no sofrimento — Ele é o Pai das misericórdias.
Praise be to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! He is the compassionate Father and the God of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those who are also in trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
Carry each other's burdens, for in this way you fulfill the law of Christ.
Those who do right have many problems, but the Lord solves all of them.
After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace who called you into his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore you, support you, strengthen you, and give you a solid foundation.
For even if you suffer for doing what's right, you're still better off. Don't be scared over what people threaten, don't worry about it;
Fé em meio à dor
Os grandes homens e mulheres de fé sofreram e perseveraram. O sofrimento nos aproxima de Deus e nos leva a entender seu coração.
Then Job stood up and tore his robe. Then cut off his hair and fell to the ground in worship. "I was naked when I came out of my mother's womb, and I shall be naked when I leave," he said. "The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away. May the Lord's name be honored."
See how happy is the person God corrects—so don't despise the Almighty's discipline.
If you don't pick up your cross and follow me you don't deserve to be mine.
If you try to save your life, you will lose it, but if you lose your life because of me you will save it.
In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham in the far distance, with Lazarus beside him.
‘Father Abraham,’ he called out, ‘Have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I'm burning in agony.’
He humbled you, and when you were hungry he gave you manna to eat, which nobody, including you and your forefathers, had ever had before. This was in order to make it clear to you that human beings do not live by only eating bread, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
Who can separate us from Christ's love? Can oppression, distress, or persecution? Or hunger, poverty, danger, or violence?
If I were to donate everything I own to the poor, or if I were to sacrifice myself to be burned as a martyr, and have no love, then I gain nothing.
God has looked after me so I can stand here today as a witness to everyone, both to ordinary people and to those who are important. I am only repeating what Moses and the prophets said would happen— how the Messiah had to suffer, and that by being the first to rise from the dead he would announce the light of God's salvation to both Jews and foreigners."
Do your best to live in peace with everybody, and look for holiness—if you don't have this you won't see the Lord.
