O temor do Senhor é o princípio da sabedoria. Não se trata de medo, mas de reverência profunda, respeito e admiração diante da santidade e grandeza de Deus.
O princípio da sabedoria
A Escritura afirma que temer ao Senhor é o primeiro passo para a verdadeira sabedoria. Quem teme a Deus discerne o certo e aprende a viver com prudência.
The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom;
all who do them have a good understanding.
His praise endures forever.
Foolishness’ Banquet
The start of wisdom is fear of Yahweh,
and knowledge of the Holy One, insight.
Fear of Yahweh is the instruction of the wise,
and before honor comes humility.
And to the human beings he said,
‘Look, the fear of the Lord is wisdom,
and to depart from evil is understanding.’ "
The fear of Yahweh is pure, enduring forever.
The ordinances of Yahweh are true; they are righteous altogether,
more desirable than gold, even much fine gold;
and sweeter than honey, even honey in the comb.
Moreover, your servant is warned by them;
in keeping them is great reward.
Bênçãos do temor
Quem teme ao Senhor encontra vida longa, provisão e proteção. O temor de Deus nos guarda do mal e nos conduz à humildade.
The reward of humility is the fear of Yahweh—
wealth and honor and life.
The fear of Yahweh adds life,
but the years of the wicked are shortened.
The fear of Yahweh is a fountain of life,
in order to turn from the snares of death.
By loyalty and faithfulness, iniquity will be covered over,
and by fear of Yahweh one turns from evil.
Happy is the person who fears continuously,
but he who is stubborn of heart, will fall into calamity.
Taste and see that Yahweh is good;
blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.
Fear Yahweh, you his saints,
for there is no lack for those who fear him.
Vivendo no temor do Senhor
Temer ao Senhor é obedecer seus mandamentos, andar em seus caminhos e amá-lo de todo coração. Essa reverência se expressa em justiça e integridade.
You shall go after Yahweh your God, and him you shall revere, and his commandment you shall keep, and to his voice you shall listen, and him you shall serve, and to him you shall hold fast.
So you must keep the commandments of Yahweh your God by walking in his ways and by fearing him.
Serve Yahweh with fear,
and rejoice with trembling.
Come, you children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of Yahweh.
Who is the man who desires life,
who loves many days in order to see good?
Keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from speaking deceit.
Turn from evil and do good.
Seek peace and pursue it.
So now, let the fear of Yahweh be upon you all. Be careful what you do, for there is neither wickedness nor showing partiality and taking bribes with Yahweh our God."
You shall not curse the deaf, and you shall not put a stumbling block before a blind person, but you shall revere your God; I am Yahweh.
And you must not oppress one another, but you shall revere your God, because I am Yahweh, your God.
" ‘And if your countryman becomes poor and if he becomes dependent on you, then you shall support him like an alien and like a temporary resident, and he shall live with you. You must not take interest or usury from him, but you shall revere your God, and your countryman shall live with you.
Fear God Rather Than People
"And I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after these things do not have anything more to do. But I will show you whom you should fear: fear the one who has authority, after the killing, to throw you into hell! Yes, I tell you, fear this one!
