A unidade do Corpo de Cristo não é uma mera sugestão organizacional, mas uma prioridade espiritual expressa em toda a Escritura. A igreja de Deus é chamada a refletir a perfeita harmonia da Trindade em meio a um mundo fragmentado por divisões, rivalidades e preconceitos. 1. A bênção e a vida para sempre na comunhão

A comunhão fraternal atrai a presença e o favor de Deus sobre o Seu povo, sendo comparada ao óleo da unção e ao orvalho que traz vida.

1-3 How wonderful, how beautiful,

when brothers and sisters get along!

It’s like costly anointing oil

2. A oração de Jesus pela unidade dos discípulos

3. O vínculo da paz no Espírito Santo

O apóstolo Paulo exorta a igreja a esforçar-se ativamente para preservar a unidade trazida pelo Espírito de Deus.

A instrução bíblica para a comunidade está em Efésios 4:3:

1-3 In light of all this, here’s what I want you to do. While I’m locked up here, a prisoner for the Master, I want you to get out there and walk—better yet, run!—on the road God called you to travel. I don’t want any of you sitting around on your hands. I don’t want anyone strolling off, down some path that goes nowhere. And mark that you do this with humility and discipline—not in fits and starts, but steadily, pouring yourselves out for each other in acts of love, alert at noticing differences and quick at mending fences.

4. Um só corpo e um só Espírito

6. A diversidade de membros no mesmo corpo

A unidade cristã não significa uniformidade. Cada membro possui dons e papéis distintos, mas todos dependem uns dos outros para o funcionamento saudável da igreja.

O princípio da cooperação nos dons é explicado em 1 Coríntios 12:12:

12,13 You can easily enough see how this kind of thing works by looking no further than your own body. Your body has many parts—limbs, organs, cells—but no matter how many parts you can name, you’re still one body. It’s exactly the same with Christ. By means of his one Spirit, we all said good-bye to our partial and piecemeal lives. We each used to independently call our own shots, but then we entered into a large and integrated life in which he has the final say in everything. (This is what we proclaimed in word and action when we were baptized.) Each of us is now a part of his resurrection body, refreshed and sustained at one fountain—his Spirit—where we all come to drink. A exortação apostólica sobre o amor encontra-se em Colossenses 3:14:

12-14 So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.

Olhar para o exemplo de autodespojamento e humildade do Senhor Jesus previne disputas por vaidade ou interesse pessoal na igreja.

A regra para as relações comunitárias é dada em Filipenses 2:2:

1-4 If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care—then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.

A comunhão saudável exige paciência, tolerância com as imperfeições alheias e disposição para perdoar continuamente.

A igreja em Atos dos Apóstolos crescia com poder porque seus membros dedicavam-se à comunhão, à oração e ao compartilhamento sincero dos bens.

Perguntas frequentes sobre a unidade na igreja

A unidade na igreja exige concordância em todas as opiniões secundárias?

Não. A unidade cristã é fundamentada nas doutrinas centrais da fé (a salvação em Cristo, a autoridade da Bíblia, a natureza de Deus). Em questões secundárias, preferencias pessoais ou métodos de trabalho, deve haver liberdade, respeito e caridade mútua.

Como agir quando ocorrem conflitos pessoais entre membros da igreja?

Os conflitos devem ser resolvidos seguindo o ensino direto de Jesus em Mateus 18:15-17, que orienta a conversa pessoal e privada em espírito de mansidão, buscando a reconciliação e o perdão sem espalhar fofocas.
