A escravidão do pecado

Todo vício é uma forma de escravidão. Jesus veio para libertar os cativos e restaurar a verdadeira liberdade dos filhos de Deus.

Resistência e domínio próprio

O fruto do Espírito inclui o domínio próprio. O cristão é chamado a ter controle sobre seus desejos, resistir à tentação e vigiar contra as obras da carne.

Libertação e renovação

Em Cristo somos libertos de toda forma de dependência. Pela renovação da mente, aprendemos a discernir e rejeitar o que nos prende.

1 Wherefore, brethren, I beseech you, by the tender mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.2 And be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind; that you may approve the will of God, which is good, and acceptable, and perfect.

11 So reckon yourselves also dead, indeed, to sin; but alive to God, by Jesus Christ.12 Let not sin, therefore, reign in your mortal body, by obeying it.13 Neither present your members as instruments of unrighteousness, to sin; but present yourselves to God, as alive from the dead; and your members as instruments of righteousness, to God.

5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death; we shall then, also, certainly be in the likeness of his resurrection.6 Knowing this, that our old man has been crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that we should not any longer serve sin:

11 For the favor of God, which brings salvation, has appeared to all men;12 teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world-

2 so that he no longer lives his remaining time in the flesh, to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.3 For the time which has passed of life, is sufficient to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, having walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excesses in wine, revellings, carousals, and abominable idolatries.4 On which account they wonder that you do not run with them, into the same sink of debauchery, reviling you,-5 who shall give account to him who is prepared to judge the living and the dead.6 For, to this end of the gospel was preached to the dead, that they might, indeed, be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.7 Now the end of all things has approached; be, therefore, sober, and watch to prayer.

8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

O corpo como templo

Nosso corpo é templo do Espírito Santo. Devemos honrar a Deus com o corpo, fugindo da embriaguez, da imoralidade e de toda impureza.

19 What! do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have from God?

9 Do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor catamites, nor sodomites,10 nor thieves, nor misers, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.11 And such were some of you; but you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified, by the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

18 And we not drunk with wine, by which comes dissoluteness; but be filled with the Spirit:

23 No longer drink water, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake, and your frequent infirmities.

16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life-is not of the Father, but is of the world.

8 Be sober, be vigilant: your adversary, the devil, is walking about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour:

13 You are the salt of the earth. If the salt become insipid, how shall its saltness be restored? It is thenceforth fit only to be cast out, and trod under foot.
