The Sermon on the Mount: Anxiety

25 "For this reason I say to you, do not be anxious for your life, what you will eat,* and not for your body, what you will wear. Is your life not more than food and your body more than clothing? 26 Consider the birds of the sky, that they do not sow or reap or gather produce into barns, and your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth more than they are? 27 And who among you, by* being anxious, is able to add one hour* to his life span?

Taking Up One’s Cross to Follow Jesus

God Has Ordained the Ebb and Flow of Human Activities

1 For everything there is an appointed time, a time for every matter under heaven:

16 what I am commanding you today* is to love Yahweh your God by going* in his ways and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his regulations, and then you will live, and you will become numerous, and Yahweh your God will bless you in the land where you are going.*

12 "Honor your father and your mother, so that your days can be long on the land that Yahweh your God is giving you.

10 As for the days of our years, within them are seventy years

or if by strength eighty years, and their pride* is trouble and disaster,

for it passes quickly and we fly away.

4 "Let me know, O Yahweh, my end,

and what is the measure of my days.

Let me know how transient I am."

5 Look, you have made my days mere handbreadths,

and my lifespan as nothing next to you.

surely in vain they bustle about.

He heaps up possessions but does not know who will gather them in.

who loves many days in order to see good?

and your lips from speaking deceit.
