4 Sing to God! Sing praises to his name.

Exalt him who rides on the clouds  *  —

his name is the Lord*  — and celebrate before him.  *

5 God in his holy dwelling is

a father of the fatherless

and a champion of widows.  *

9 The Lord protects resident aliens

and helps the fatherless and the widow,  *

but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.  *

12 For I rescued the poor who cried out for help,

and the fatherless child who had no one to support him.  *

13 The dying blessed me,

and I made the widow’s heart rejoice.

9 Speak up, judge righteously,  *

and defend the cause of the oppressed and needy.  *

9 "The Lord of Armies says this: ‘Make fair decisions.  * Show faithful love and compassion  * to one another. 10 Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the resident alien or the poor,  * and do not plot evil in your hearts against one another.’  *

22 "You must not mistreat any widow or fatherless child.  *23 If you do mistreat them, they will no doubt cry to me, and I will certainly hear their cry.  *24 My anger will burn, and I will kill you with the sword; then your wives will be widows and your children fatherless.  *

17 Learn to do what is good.

Pursue justice.  *

Correct the oppressor.  *

Defend the rights of the fatherless.

Plead the widow’s cause.

27 Pure and undefiled religion before God the Father is this: to look after orphans and widows  * in their distress and to keep oneself unstained from the world.  *

3 Support  * widows  * who are genuinely in need.
