1This is the third time that I am visiting you. Every fact shall be sustainedandconfirmed by the testimony of two or three witnesses. [Deut 19:15]
4For even though He was crucified in weakness [yielding Himself], yet He lives [resurrected] by the power of God [His Father]. For we too are weak in Him [as He was humanly weak], yet we are alive and well [in fellowship] with Him because of the power of God directed toward you.
8For we can do nothing against the truth, but only for the truth [and the gospel—the good news of salvation].
1Now brothers and sisters, let me remind you [once again] of the good news [of salvation] which I preached to you, which you welcomed and accepted and on which you stand [by faith].
2By this faith you are saved [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His purpose], if you hold firmly to the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain [just superficially and without complete commitment].
29… do with Christian baptism or salvation. Paul may be referring …
52in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at [the sound of] the last trumpet call. For a trumpet will sound, and the dead [who believed in Christ] will be raised imperishable, and we will be [completely] changed [wondrously transformed].
55O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?" [Hos 13:14]
8Look, I have set the land before you; go in and take possession of the land which the Lord swore (solemnly promised) to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them and to their descendants after them.’
21Behold, the Lord your God has set the land before you; go up and take possession of it, just as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has spoken to you. Do not fear or be dismayed.’
31and in the wilderness where you saw how the Lord your God carried and protected you, just as a man carries his son, all along the way which you traveled until you arrived at this place.’
8Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.
13If [the family living in] the house is worthy [welcoming you and your message], give it your [blessing of] 10:13 I.e. "shalom" is to come upon this house.peace [that is, a blessing of well-being and prosperity, the favor of God]. But if it is not worthy, take back your blessing of peace.
39Whoever finds his life [in this world] will [eventually] lose it [through death], and whoever loses his life [in this world] for My sake will find it [that is, life with Me for all eternity]. [Matt 16:25; Mark 8:35; Luke 9:24; 17:33; John 12:25]
11the [sound of the] voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the [song-filled] voice of those who say,"Give praise and thanks to the Lord of hosts,For the Lord is good; For His [steadfast] lovingkindness (mercy) endures forever";and of those who bring a thank offering into the house of the Lord. For I will restore the fortunes of the land as they were at first,’ says the Lord.
15In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch of David to spring forth; and He (the Messiah) shall execute justice and righteousness on the earth. [Is 4:2; Jer 23:5; Zech 3:8; 6:12]
16In those days Judah will be saved and [the people of] Jerusalem will live in safety; and this is the name by which she will be called: the Lord Our Righteousness (Justice).’
10for it is written and forever remains written,‘He will command His angels concerning You to guardandprotect You,’
18"The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me (the Messiah),Because He has anointed Me to preach the good news to the poor.He has sent Me to announce release (pardon, forgiveness) to the captives,And recovery of sight to the blind,To set free those who are oppressed (downtrodden, bruised, crushed by tragedy),
19to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord [the day when salvation and the favor of God abound greatly]." [Is 61:1, 2]
6The [malevolent] words of the wicked lie in wait for [innocent] blood [to slander],But the mouth of the upright will rescue and protect them.
21No harm befalls the righteous,But the wicked are filled with trouble. [Job 5:19; Ps 91:3; Prov 12:13; Is 46:4; Jer 1:8; Dan 6:27; 2 Tim 4:18]
28In the way of righteousness is life,And in its pathway there is no death [but immortality—eternal life]. [John 3:36; 4:36; 8:51; 11:26; 1 Cor 15:54; Gal 6:8]
13came to [see] me, and standing near, he said to me, ‘Brother Saul, receive your sight!’ And at that very moment I [recovered my sight and] looked up at him.
16Now, why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins by calling on His name [for salvation].’
19… You [and Your message of salvation].
20And when the blood of Your witness Stephen was being shed, I also was standing nearby approving and consenting [to his death], and guarding the coats of those who were killing him.’
1The [spiritually ignorant] fool has said in his heart, "There is no God."They are corrupt, they have committed repulsive and unspeakable deeds; There is no one who does good. [Rom 3:10]
7Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When the Lord restores His captive people,Then Jacob will rejoice, Israel will be glad. [Rom 11:25-27]
5But to the one who does not work [that is, the one who does not try to earn his salvation by doing good], but believes and completely trusts in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is 4:5 Faith is not an equivalent or substitute for righteousness, but God graciously treats it as if it were the same. Otherwise, no one could be saved from sin and have eternal life.credited to him as righteousness (right standing with God).
9Is this blessing only for the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised? For we say, "Faith was credited to Abraham as righteousness."
14… Abraham], then faith [leading to salvation] is of no effect …
24but for our sake also—to whom righteousness will be credited, as those who believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead—
25who was betrayed and crucified because of our sins, and was raised [from the dead] because of our justification [our acquittal—absolving us of all sin before God].
12A glorious throne, set on high from the beginning,Is the place of our sanctuary (the temple).
13O Lord, the hope of Israel,All who abandon You will be shamed. Those who turn away on earth will be written down,Because they have abandoned the Lord, the fountain of living waters.
14Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed;Save me and I will be saved,For You are my praise.
7"Blessed [content, sheltered by God’s promises] are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
9"Blessed [spiritually calm with life-joy in God’s favor] are the makers and maintainers of peace, for they will [express His character and] be called the sons of God. [Heb 12:14]
14"You are the light of [Christ to] the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;
1So I, the prisoner for the Lord, appeal to you to live a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called [that is, to live a life that exhibits godly character, moral courage, personal integrity, and mature behavior—a life that expresses gratitude to God for your salvation],
4… one hope when called [to salvation]—
11… spread the good news of salvation], and some as pastors …
24and put on the new self [the regenerated and renewed nature], created in God’s image, [godlike] in the righteousness and holiness of the truth [living in a way that expresses to God your gratitude for your salvation].
26Be angry [at sin—at immorality, at injustice, at ungodly behavior], yet do not sin; do not let your anger [cause you shame, nor allow it to] last until the sun goes down. [Ps 4:4]
30And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [but seek to please Him], by whom you were sealed and marked [branded as God’s own] for the day of redemption [the final deliverance from the consequences of sin]. [Eph 1:13, 14; Phil 3:20, 21]
10and in a loud voice they cried out, saying,"Salvation [belongs] to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb [our salvation is the Trinity’s to give, and to God the Trinity we owe our deliverance]."
12saying,"Amen! Blessing and glory and majesty and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might belong to our God forever and ever. Amen."
14I said to him, "My lord, you know [the answer]." And he said to me, "These are the people who come out of the great tribulation (persecution), and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb [because of His atoning sacrifice]. [Gen 49:11; Dan 12:1]
12The king’s wrath terrifies like the roaring of a lion,But his favor is as [refreshing and nourishing as] dew on the grass. [Hos 14:5]
17He who is gracious and lends a hand to the poor lends to the Lord,And the Lord will repay him for his good deed. [Prov 28:27; Eccl 11:1; Matt 10:42; 25:40; 2 Cor 9:6-8; Heb 6:10]
23The fear of the Lordleads to life,So that one may sleep satisfied, untouched by evil. [Job 5:19; Ps 91:3; Prov 12:13; Is 46:4; Jer 1:8; Dan 6:27; 2 Tim 4:18]
9Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this household, because he, too, is a [19:9 By changing both his old way of thinking and his behavior Zaccheus proved that his faith in God was real.spiritual] son of Abraham;
17And he said to him, ‘Well done, good servant! Because you proved yourself faithful and trustworthy in a very little thing, you shall [now] have authority over ten cities [in my kingdom].’
38shouting,"Blessed (celebrated, praised) is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!Peace in heaven and glory (majesty, splendor) in the highest [heaven]!" [Ps 118:26]
42… known on this day [of salvation], even you, the things …
44… toward you and offered you salvation]."
45Jesus went into the temple [enclosure] and began driving out those who were selling, [Matt 21:12, 13; Mark 11:15-17; John 2:13-16]
8Love never fails [it never fades nor ends]. But as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for the gift of special knowledge, it will pass away.
12For now [in this time of imperfection] we see in a mirror dimly [a blurred reflection, a riddle, an enigma], but then [when the time of perfection comes we will see reality] face to face. Now I know in part [just in fragments], but then I will know fully, just as I have been fully known [by God].
13And now there remain: faith [abiding trust in God and His promises], hope [confident expectation of eternal salvation], love [unselfish love for others growing out of God’s love for me], these three [the choicest graces]; but the greatest of these is love.
24For in this hope we were saved [by faith]. But hope [the object of] which is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he already sees?
35Who shall ever separate us from the love of 8:35 Two early mss read God.Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
38For I am convinced [and continue to be convinced—beyond any doubt] that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers,
