1 And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you. 2 And now, behold, the king walketh before you; and I am old and grayheaded; and, behold, my sons are with you: and I have walked before you from my youth unto this day. 3 Here I am: witness against me before Jehovah, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I taken a ransom to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you. 4 And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken aught of any man’s hand. 5 And he said unto them, Jehovah is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found aught in my hand. And they said, He is witness.

6 And Samuel said unto the people, It is Jehovah that appointed Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt. 7 Now therefore stand still, that I may plead with you before Jehovah concerning all the righteous acts of Jehovah, which he did to you and to your fathers. 8 When Jacob was come into Egypt, and your fathers cried unto Jehovah, then Jehovah sent Moses and Aaron, who brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and made them to dwell in this place. 9 But they forgat Jehovah their God; and he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab; and they fought against them. 10 And they cried unto Jehovah, and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken Jehovah, and have served the Baalim and the Ashtaroth: but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee. 11 And Jehovah sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side; and ye dwelt in safety. 12 And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay, but a king shall reign over us; when Jehovah your God was your king. 13 Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have asked for: and, behold, Jehovah hath set a king over you. 14 If ye will fear Jehovah, and serve him, and hearken unto his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of Jehovah, and both ye and also the king that reigneth over you be followers of Jehovah your God, well: 15 but if ye will not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah, but rebel against the commandment of Jehovah, then will the hand of Jehovah be against you, as it was against your fathers. 16 Now therefore stand still and see this great thing, which Jehovah will do before your eyes. 17 Is it not wheat harvest to-day? I will call unto Jehovah, that he may send thunder and rain; and ye shall know and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of Jehovah, in asking you a king. 18 So Samuel called unto Jehovah; and Jehovah sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared Jehovah and Samuel.

19 And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray for thy servants unto Jehovah thy God, that we die not; for we have added unto all our sins this evil, to ask us a king. 20 And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have indeed done all this evil; yet turn not aside from following Jehovah, but serve Jehovah with all your heart: 21 and turn ye not aside; for then would ye go after vain things which cannot profit nor deliver, for they are vain. 22 For Jehovah will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake, because it hath pleased Jehovah to make you a people unto himself. 23 Moreover as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against Jehovah in ceasing to pray for you: but I will instruct you in the good and the right way. 24 Only fear Jehovah, and serve him in truth with all your heart; for consider how great things he hath done for you. 25 But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.

Și ei au răspuns: „Sunt martori!"

6 Atunci, Samuel a zis poporului: „Domnul*Mica 6:4. a pus pe Moise și pe Aaron și a scos pe părinții voștri din Egipt. 7 Acum, înfățișați-vă ca să vă judec*Is. 1:18;5:3,4.Mica 6:2,3. înaintea Domnului pentru toate binefacerile pe care vi le-a făcut Domnul, vouă și părinților voștri. 8 După ce*Gen. 46:5,6. a venit Iacov în Egipt, părinții voștri au strigat*Exod 2:23. către Domnul, și Domnul a trimis*Exod 3:10;4:16. pe Moise și pe Aaron, care au scos pe părinții voștri din Egipt și i-au adus să locuiască în locul acesta. 9 Dar ei au uitat*Jud. 3:7. pe Domnul Dumnezeul lor, și El i-a vândut*Jud. 4:2. în mâinile lui Sisera, căpetenia oștirii Hațorului, în mâinile filistenilor*Jud. 10:7;13:1. și în mâinile împăratului Moabului*Jud. 3:12., care au început lupta împotriva lor. 10 Au strigat iarăși către Domnul și au zis: ‘Am păcătuit*Jud. 10:10., căci am părăsit pe Domnul și am*Jud. 2:13. slujit baalilor și astarteelor; izbăvește-ne*Jud. 10:15,16. acum din mâna vrăjmașilor noștri și-Ți vom sluji.’ 11 Și Domnul a trimis pe Ierubaal*Jud. 6:14,32. și pe Barac, și pe Iefta*Jud. 11:1., și pe Samuel*Cap. 7:13. și v-a izbăvit din mâna vrăjmașilor voștri care vă înconjurau și ați locuit în liniște. 12 Apoi, când ați văzut că Nahaș*Cap. 11:1., împăratul fiilor lui Amon, mergea împotriva voastră, mi-ați*Cap. 8:5,19. zis: ‘Nu, ci un împărat să domnească peste noi.’ Și totuși Domnul*Jud. 8:23. Cap. 8:7; 10:19. Dumnezeul vostru era Împăratul vostru. 13 Iată*Cap. 10:24. dar împăratul pe care*Cap. 8:5;9:20. l-ați ales și pe care l-ați cerut; iată că Domnul*Osea 13:11. a pus un împărat peste voi. 14 Dacă vă veți teme*Ios. 24:14.Ps. 81:13,14. de Domnul, dacă-I veți sluji, dacă veți asculta de glasul Lui și dacă nu vă veți împotrivi Cuvântului Domnului, vă veți alipi de Domnul Dumnezeul vostru atât voi, cât și împăratul care domnește peste voi. 15 Dar, dacă nu veți asculta*Lev. 26:14,15.Deut. 28:15.Ios. 24:20. de glasul Domnului și vă veți împotrivi Cuvântului Domnului, mâna Domnului va fi împotriva voastră, cum*Vers. 9. a fost împotriva părinților voștri. 16 Acum mai așteptați*Exod 14:13,31. aici, ca să vedeți minunea pe care o va face Domnul sub ochii voștri. 17 Nu suntem noi la seceratul*Prov. 26:1. grânelor? Voi*Ios. 10:12. Cap. 7:9,10.Iac. 5:16-18. striga către Domnul și va trimite tunete și ploaie. Să știți atunci și să vedeți cât de rău ați*Cap. 8:7. făcut înaintea Domnului când ați cerut un împărat pentru voi." 18 Samuel a strigat către Domnul, și Domnul a trimis chiar în ziua aceea tunete și ploaie. Tot poporul*Exod 14:31.Ezra 10:9. a avut o mare frică de Domnul și de Samuel. 19 Și tot poporul a zis lui Samuel: „Roagă-te*Exod 9:28;10:17.Iac. 5:15.1 Ioan 5:16. Domnului Dumnezeului tău pentru robii tăi, ca să nu murim, căci, la toate păcatele noastre, am mai adăugat și pe acela de a cere un împărat pentru noi." 20 Samuel a zis poporului: „Nu vă temeți! Ați făcut tot răul acesta, dar nu vă abateți de la Domnul și slujiți Domnului din toată inima voastră. 21 Nu vă abateți*Deut. 11:16. de la El, altfel ați*Ier. 16:19.Hab. 2:18.1 Cor. 8:4. merge după lucruri de nimic, care n-aduc nici folos, nici izbăvire, pentru că sunt lucruri de nimic. 22 Domnul*1 Împ. 6:13.Ps. 94:14. nu va părăsi pe poporul Lui din pricina Numelui*Ios. 7:9.Ps. 106:8.Ier. 14:21.Ezec. 20:9,14. Lui celui mare, căci Domnul a hotărât*Deut. 7:7,8;14:2.Mal. 1:2. să facă din voi poporul Lui. 23 Departe iarăși de mine să păcătuiesc împotriva Domnului încetând*Fapte 12:5.Rom. 1:9.Col. 1:9.2 Tim. 1:3. să mă rog pentru voi! Vă voi*Ps. 34:11.Prov. 4:11. învăța calea*1 Împ. 8:36.2 Cron. 6:27.Ier. 6:16. cea bună și cea dreaptă. 24 Temeți-vă numai*Ecl. 12:13. de Domnul și slujiți-I cu credincioșie, din toată inima voastră, căci vedeți*Is. 5:12. ce putere desfășoară*Deut. 10:21.Ps. 126:2,3. El printre voi. 25 Dar, dacă veți face răul, veți*Ios. 24:20. pieri, voi*Deut. 28:39. și împăratul vostru."
