1 Now I Paul myself entreat you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I who in your presence am lowly among you, but being absent am of good courage toward you: 2 yea, I beseech you, that I may not when present show courage with the confidence wherewith I count to be bold against some, who count of us as if we walked according to the flesh. 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh 4 (for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the casting down of strongholds); 5 casting down imaginations, and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ; 6 and being in readiness to avenge all disobedience, when your obedience shall be made full. 7 Ye look at the things that are before your face. If any man trusteth in himself that he is Christ’s, let him consider this again with himself, that, even as he is Christ’s, so also are we. 8 For though I should glory somewhat abundantly concerning our authority (which the Lord gave for building you up, and not for casting you down), I shall not be put to shame: 9 that I may not seem as if I would terrify you by my letters. 10 For, His letters, they say, are weighty and strong; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech of no account. 11 Let such a one reckon this, that, what we are in word by letters when we are absent, such are we also in deed when we are present. 12 For we are not bold to number or compare ourselves with certain of them that commend themselves: but they themselves, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves with themselves, are without understanding. 13 But we will not glory beyond our measure, but according to the measure of the province which God apportioned to us as a measure, to reach even unto you. 14 For we stretch not ourselves overmuch, as though we reached not unto you: for we came even as far as unto you in the gospel of Christ: 15 not glorying beyond our measure, that is, in other men’s labors; but having hope that, as your faith groweth, we shall be magnified in you according to our province unto further abundance, 16 so as to preach the gospel even unto the parts beyond you, and not to glory in another’s province in regard of things ready to our hand. 17 But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. 18 For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.

Cap. 12:5,7,9. „smerit când sunt de față în mijlocul vostru și plin de îndrăzneală împotriva voastră când sunt departe" – 2 vă rog dar să nu mă faceți ca, atunci când voi fi de față, să*1 Cor. 4:21. Cap. 6:7;13:3,4. sunt puternice, întărite de Dumnezeu ca să*Ier. 1:10. surpe întăriturile. 5 Noi răsturnăm*1 Cor. 1:19;3:19. izvodirile minții și orice înălțime care se ridică împotriva cunoștinței lui Dumnezeu, și orice gând îl facem rob ascultării de Hristos. 6 Îndată*Cap. 13:2,10. ce se va săvârși*Cap. 2:9;7:15. ascultarea aceasta din partea voastră, suntem gata să pedepsim orice neascultare. 7 La*Ioan 7:24. Cap. 5:12;11:18. înfățișare vă uitați? Dacă*1 Cor. 14:37.Ioan 4:6. cineva crede că „este al lui Hristos", să aibă în vedere că, după cum el este al lui Hristos, tot așa suntem și noi*1 Cor. 3:23;9:1. Cap. 11:23.. 8 Și chiar dacă m-aș lăuda ceva mai mult cu*Cap. 13:10. stăpânirea pe care mi-a dat-o Domnul pentru zidirea voastră, iar nu pentru dărâmarea voastră, tot nu*Cap. 7:14;12:6. mi-ar fi rușine. 9 Zic așa, ca să nu se pară că vreau să vă înfricoșez prin epistolele mele. 10 „De fapt", zic ei, „epistolele lui sunt cu greutate și pline de putere, dar*1 Cor. 2:3,4. Vers. 1. Cap. 12:5,7,9.Gal. 4:13. când este de față el însuși, este moale, și cuvântul*1 Cor. 1:17;2:1,4. Cap. 11:6. lui n-are nicio greutate." 11 Cine judecă așa să fie încredințat că, așa cum suntem în vorbă în epistolele noastre, când nu suntem de față, tot așa vom fi și în faptă, când vom fi de față!

12 Negreșit*Cap. 3:1;5:12., n-avem îndrăzneala să ne punem alături sau în rândul unora din aceia care se laudă singuri. Dar ei, prin faptul că se măsoară cu ei înșiși și se pun alături ei cu ei înșiși, sunt fără pricepere. 13 Noi*Vers. 15. însă nu ne lăudăm dincolo de măsura noastră, ci în măsura marginilor pe care le-a însemnat Dumnezeu câmpului nostru ca să ajungem până la voi. 14 Nu ne întindem prea mult, ca și când n-am fi ajuns până la voi, căci*1 Cor. 3:3,5,10;4:15;9:1., în adevăr, până la voi am ajuns în Evanghelia lui Hristos. 15 Nu ne lăudăm peste măsura noastră, adică nu ne lăudăm cu*Rom. 15:20. ostenelile altuia, ci avem nădejdea că, dacă credința voastră crește, va crește și câmpul nostru de lucru între voi, nespus de mult, după măsura noastră. 16 Așa că vom putea propovădui Evanghelia și în ținuturile care sunt dincolo de al vostru, fără să intrăm în câmpul de lucru al altuia, ca să ne lăudăm cu lucrări făcute de-a gata. 17 Ci „oricine*Is. 65:16.Ier. 9:24.1 Cor. 1:31. se laudă să se laude în Domnul". 18 Pentru că nu*Prov. 27:2. cine se laudă singur va fi primit, ci acela pe*Rom. 2:29.1 Cor. 4:5. care Domnul îl laudă.
