1 And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Jehoram his son reigned in his stead. 2 And he had brethren, the sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah; all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel. 3 And their father gave them great gifts, of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fortified cities in Judah: but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram, because he was the first-born. 4 Now when Jehoram was risen up over the kingdom of his father, and had strengthened himself, he slew all his brethren with the sword, and divers also of the princes of Israel. 5 Jehoram was thirty and two years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. 6 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab; for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife: and he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah. 7 Howbeit Jehovah would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a lamp to him and to his children alway.

8 In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves. 9 Then Jehoram passed over with his captains, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites that compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots. 10 So Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day: then did Libnah revolt at the same time from under his hand, because he had forsaken Jehovah, the God of his fathers.

11 Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and made the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the harlot, and led Judah astray. 12 And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah, 13 but hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the harlot, like as the house of Ahab did, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father’s house, who were better than thyself: 14 behold, Jehovah will smite with a great plague thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy substance; 15 and thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness, day by day.

16 And Jehovah stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians that are beside the Ethiopians: 17 and they came up against Judah, and brake into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king’s house, and his sons also, and his wives; so that there was never a son left him, save Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.

18 And after all this Jehovah smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease. 19 And it came to pass, in process of time, at the end of two years, that his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness, and he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers. 20 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years: and he departed without being desired; and they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.

2 Ioram avea ca frați, fii ai lui Iosafat, pe Azaria, Iehiel, Zaharia, Azaria, Micael și Șefatia, toți fii ai lui Iosafat, împăratul lui Israel. 3 Tatăl lor le dăduse daruri însemnate în argint, în aur și în lucruri scumpe, împreună cu cetăți întărite în Iuda, dar împărăția a lăsat-o lui Ioram, pentru că el era întâiul născut. 4 Când a luat Ioram în stăpânire împărăția tatălui său și când s-a întărit, a omorât cu sabia pe toți frații săi și pe vreo câțiva din capii lui Israel. 5 Ioram avea treizeci și doi*2 Împ. 8:17. de ani când a ajuns împărat și a domnit opt ani la Ierusalim. 6 El a umblat în calea împăraților lui Israel cum făcuse casa lui Ahab*Cap. 22:2., căci avea de nevastă pe o fată a lui Ahab, și a făcut ce este rău înaintea Domnului. 7 Dar Domnul n-a voit să piardă casa lui David, din pricina legământului pe care-l făcuse cu David și din pricina făgăduinței pe care o făcuse că îi va da totdeauna o lumină, lui și fiilor*2 Sam. 7:12,13.1 Împ. 11:36.2 Împ. 8:19.Ps. 132:11. lui. 8 Pe vremea*2 Împ. 8:20. sa, Edom s-a răsculat împotriva stăpânirii lui Iuda și și-a pus un împărat. 9 Ioram a pornit cu căpeteniile și cu toate carele sale. Sculându-se noaptea, a bătut pe edomiții care-l înconjurau și pe căpeteniile carelor lor. 10 Răscoala lui Edom împotriva stăpânirii lui Iuda a ținut până în ziua de azi. În același timp s-a răsculat și Libna împotriva stăpânirii lui, pentru că părăsise pe Domnul Dumnezeul părinților săi. 11 Ioram a făcut chiar înălțimi în munții lui Iuda. A târât pe locuitorii Ierusalimului la curvie*Lev. 17:7;20:5. Vers. 13. și a amăgit pe Iuda. 12 I-a venit o scrisoare de la prorocul Ilie, care zicea: „Așa vorbește Domnul Dumnezeul tatălui tău David: ‘Pentru că n-ai umblat în căile tatălui tău Iosafat și în căile lui Asa, împăratul lui Iuda, 13 ci ai umblat în calea împăraților lui Israel; pentru că ai târât*Vers. 11. la curvie*Exod 34:15.Deut. 31:16. pe Iuda și locuitorii Ierusalimului, cum a făcut casa*1 Împ. 16:31-33.2 Împ. 9:22. lui Ahab față de Israel, și pentru că ai omorât pe frații*Vers. 4. tăi, care erau mai buni decât tine și care făceau parte din însăși casa tatălui tău, 14 iată, Domnul va lovi cu o mare urgie pe poporul tău, pe fiii tăi, pe nevestele tale și tot ce este al tău. 15 Iar pe tine, te va lovi cu o boală grea, cu o boală de măruntaie*Vers. 18,19., care se va îngreuia din zi în zi, până când îți vor ieși măruntaiele din pricina tăriei bolii.’" 16 Și Domnul a ațâțat*1 Împ. 11:14,23. împotriva lui Ioram duhul filistenilor și al arabilor, care sunt în vecinătatea etiopienilor. 17 S-au suit împotriva lui Iuda, au năvălit în el, au jefuit toate bogățiile care se aflau în casa împăratului și i-au luat fiii*Cap. 24:7. și nevestele, așa încât nu i-a mai rămas alt fiu decât Ioahaz*21:17 Ioahaz, numit Ahazia în cap. 22:1., cel mai tânăr dintre fiii săi. 18 După toate acestea, Domnul l-a lovit cu o boală de măruntaie*Vers. 15., care era fără leac. 19 Ea s-a îngreuiat din zi în zi și, pe la sfârșitul anului al doilea, i-au ieșit lui Ioram măruntaiele din pricina tăriei bolii. A murit în dureri grele. Și poporul lui n-a ars tămâie în cinstea lui, cum făcuse pentru părinții*Cap. 16:14. lui. 20 Avea treizeci și doi de ani când a ajuns împărat și a domnit opt ani la Ierusalim. A murit fără să lase părere de rău în urmă și l-au îngropat în cetatea lui David, dar nu în mormintele împăraților.
