1 And after the uproar ceased, Paul having sent for the disciples and exhorted them, took leave of them, and departed to go into Macedonia. 2 And when he had gone through those parts, and had given them much exhortation, he came into Greece. 3 And when he had spent three months there, and a plot was laid against him by the Jews as he was about to set sail for Syria, he determined to return through Macedonia. 4 And there accompanied him as far as Asia, Sopater of Beroea, the son of Pyrrhus; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus. 5 But these had gone before, and were waiting for us at Troas. 6 And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we tarried seven days.

7 And upon the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul discoursed with them, intending to depart on the morrow; and prolonged his speech until midnight. 8 And there were many lights in the upper chamber where we were gathered together. 9 And there sat in the window a certain young man named Eutychus, borne down with deep sleep; and as Paul discoursed yet longer, being borne down by his sleep he fell down from the third story, and was taken up dead. 10 And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Make ye no ado; for his life is in him. 11 And when he was gone up, and had broken the bread, and eaten, and had talked with them a long while, even till break of day, so he departed. 12 And they brought the lad alive, and were not a little comforted.

13 But we, going before to the ship, set sail for Assos, there intending to take in Paul: for so had he appointed, intending himself to go by land. 14 And when he met us at Assos, we took him in, and came to Mitylene. 15 And sailing from thence, we came the following day over against Chios; and the next day we touched at Samos; and the day after we came to Miletus. 16 For Paul had determined to sail past Ephesus, that he might not have to spend time in Asia; for he was hastening, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost.

17 And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called to him the elders of the church. 18 And when they were come to him, he said unto them,

Ye yourselves know, from the first day that I set foot in Asia, after what manner I was with you all the time, 19 serving the Lord with all lowliness of mind, and with tears, and with trials which befell me by the plots of the Jews; 20 how I shrank not from declaring unto you anything that was profitable, and teaching you publicly, and from house to house, 21 testifying both to Jews and to Greeks repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. 22 And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: 23 save that the Holy Spirit testifieth unto me in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. 24 But I hold not my life of any account as dear unto myself, so that I may accomplish my course, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. 25 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I went about preaching the kingdom, shall see my face no more. 26 Wherefore I testify unto you this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. 27 For I shrank not from declaring unto you the whole counsel of God. 28 Take heed unto yourselves, and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit hath made you bishops, to feed the church of the Lord which he purchased with his own blood. 29 I know that after my departing grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not sparing the flock; 30 and from among your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. 31 Wherefore watch ye, remembering that by the space of three years I ceased not to admonish every one night and day with tears. 32 And now I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you the inheritance among all them that are sanctified. 33 I coveted no man’s silver, or gold, or apparel. 34 Ye yourselves know that these hands ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. 35 In all things I gave you an example, that so laboring ye ought to help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

36 And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down and prayed with them all. 37 And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul’s neck and kissed him, 38 sorrowing most of all for the word which he had spoken, that they should behold his face no more. And they brought him on his way unto the ship.

Atunci s-a hotărât să se întoarcă prin Macedonia. 4 Avea ca tovarăși până în Asia pe: Sopater din Bereea, fiul lui Pir, Aristarh*Cap. 19:29;27:2.Col. 4:10. și Secund din Tesalonic, Gaius*Cap. 19:29. din Derbe, Timotei*Cap. 16:1., precum și Tihic*Efes. 6:21.Col. 4:7.2 Tim. 4:12.Tit 3:12. și Trofim*Cap. 21:29.2 Tim. 4:20., care erau din Asia. 5 Aceștia au luat-o înainte și ne-au așteptat la Troa. 6 Iar noi, după zilele*Exod 12:14,15;23:15. Praznicului Azimilor, am plecat cu corabia din Filipi și, în cinci zile, am ajuns la ei în*Cap. 16:8.2 Cor. 2:12.2 Tim. 4:13. Troa, unde am stat șapte zile.

7 În ziua dintâi*1 Cor. 16:2.Apoc. 1:10. a săptămânii, eram adunați laolaltă ca să*Cap. 2:42,46.1 Cor. 10:16;11:20. frângem pâinea. Pavel, care trebuia să plece a doua zi, vorbea ucenicilor și și-a lungit vorbirea până la miezul nopții. 8 În*Cap. 1:13. odaia de sus, unde eram adunați, erau multe lumini. 9 Și un tânăr, numit Eutih, care ședea pe fereastră, a adormit de-a binelea în timpul lungii vorbiri a lui Pavel; biruit de somn, a căzut din catul al treilea și a fost ridicat mort. 10 Dar Pavel s-a coborât, s-a*1 Împ. 17:21.2 Împ. 4:34. repezit spre el, l-a luat în brațe și a zis: „Nu*Mat. 9:24. vă tulburați, căci sufletul lui este în el." 11 După ce s-a suit iarăși, a frânt pâinea, a cinat și a mai vorbit multă vreme până la ziuă. Apoi a plecat. 12 Flăcăul a fost adus viu, și lucrul acesta a fost pricina unei mari mângâieri.

13 Noi am venit înaintea lui Pavel la corabie și am plecat cu corabia la Asos, unde ne învoiserăm să ne întâlnim din nou, pentru că el trebuia să facă drumul pe jos. 14 Când s-a întâlnit cu noi în Asos, l-am luat în corabie și ne-am dus la Mitilene. 15 De aici am mers pe mare și a doua zi am ajuns în fața insulei Chios. În ziua următoare, de abia am atins Samos, ne-am oprit în Troghilion și a doua zi am venit la Milet. 16 Pavel se hotărâse să treacă pe lângă Efes, fără să se oprească aici, ca să nu piardă vremea în Asia, căci*Cap. 18:21;19:21;21:4,12. se grăbea ca, dacă-i va fi cu putință, să*Cap. 24:17. fie în Ierusalim de Ziua*Cap. 2:1.1 Cor. 16:8. Cincizecimii.

17 Însă din Milet, Pavel a trimis la Efes și a chemat pe prezbiterii Bisericii. 18 Când au venit la el, le-a zis:

„Știți cum m-am purtat cu voi în toată vremea, din*Cap. 18:19;19:1,10. ziua dintâi în care am pus piciorul pe pământul Asiei. 19 Am slujit Domnului cu toată smerenia, cu multe lacrimi și în mijlocul încercărilor pe*Vers. 3. care mi le ridicau uneltirile iudeilor. 20 Știți că n-am*Vers. 27. ascuns nimic din ce vă era de folos și nu m-am temut să vă propovăduiesc și să vă învăț înaintea norodului și în case 21 și să vestesc*Cap. 18:5. iudeilor și grecilor pocăința*Marcu 1:15.Luca 24:47. Cap. 2:38. față de Dumnezeu și credința în Domnul nostru Isus Hristos. 22 Și acum, iată că, împins*Cap. 19:21. de duhul, mă duc la Ierusalim, fără să știu ce mi se va întâmpla acolo. 23 Numai Duhul Sfânt*Cap. 21:4,11.1 Tes. 3:3. mă înștiințează din cetate în cetate că mă așteaptă lanțuri și necazuri. 24 Dar eu nu*Cap. 21:13.Rom. 8:35.2 Cor. 4:16. țin numaidecât la viața mea, ca și cum mi-ar fi scumpă, ci*2 Tim. 4:7. vreau numai să-mi sfârșesc cu bucurie calea și*Cap. 1:17.2 Cor. 4:1. slujba pe*Gal. 1:1.Tit 1:3. care am primit-o de la Domnul Isus, ca să vestesc Evanghelia harului lui Dumnezeu. 25 Și acum, știu*Vers. 38.Rom. 15:23. că nu-mi veți mai vedea fața, voi toți aceia în mijlocul cărora am umblat propovăduind Împărăția lui Dumnezeu. 26 De aceea vă mărturisesc astăzi că sunt curat de sângele*Cap. 18:6.2 Cor. 7:2. tuturor. 27 Căci*Vers. 20. nu m-am ferit să vă vestesc tot planul*Luca 7:30.Ioan 15:15.Efes. 1:11. lui Dumnezeu. 28 Luați seama*1 Tim. 4:16.1 Pet. 5:2. dar la voi înșivă și la toată turma peste care v-a*1 Cor. 12:28. pus Duhul Sfânt episcopi*20:28 Sau: priveghetori., ca să păstoriți Biserica Domnului, pe care*Efes. 1:7,14.Col. 1:14.Evr. 9:12.1 Pet. 1:19.Apoc. 5:9. a câștigat-o cu*Evr. 9:14. însuși sângele Său. 29 Știu bine că, după plecarea mea, se vor*Mat. 7:15.2 Pet. 2:1. vârî între voi lupi răpitori, care nu vor cruța turma, 30 și se vor scula din*1 Tim. 1:20.1 Ioan 2:19. mijlocul vostru oameni care vor învăța lucruri stricăcioase, ca să tragă pe ucenici de partea lor. 31 De aceea vegheați și aduceți-vă aminte că, timp de trei*Cap. 19:10. ani, zi și noapte, n-am încetat să sfătuiesc cu lacrimi pe fiecare din voi. 32 Și acum, fraților, vă încredințez în mâna lui Dumnezeu și a Cuvântului*Evr. 13:9. harului Său, care vă*Cap. 9:31. poate zidi sufletește și vă poate da moștenirea*Cap. 26:18.Efes. 1:18.Col. 1:12;3:24.Evr. 9:15.1 Pet. 1:4. împreună cu toți cei sfințiți. 33 N-am râvnit nici la argintul*1 Sam. 12:3.1 Cor. 9:12.2 Cor. 7:2;11:9;12:17., nici la aurul, nici la hainele cuiva. 34 Singuri știți că*Cap. 18:3.1 Cor. 4:12.1 Tes. 2:9.2 Tes. 3:8. mâinile acestea au lucrat pentru trebuințele mele și ale celor ce erau cu mine. 35 În toate privințele v-am dat o pildă și v-am arătat că*Rom. 15:1.1 Cor. 9:12.2 Cor. 11:9,12;12:13.Efes. 4:28.1 Tes. 4:11;5:14.2 Tes. 3:8., lucrând astfel, trebuie să ajutați pe cei slabi și să vă aduceți aminte de cuvintele Domnului Isus, care Însuși a zis: ‘Este mai ferice să dai decât să primești.’" 36 După ce a vorbit astfel, a îngenuncheat*Cap. 7:60;21:5. și s-a rugat împreună cu ei toți. 37 Și au izbucnit cu toții în lacrimi, au căzut*Gen. 45:14;46:29. pe grumazul lui Pavel și l-au sărutat. 38 Căci erau întristați mai ales de vorba pe care*Vers. 25. le-o spusese el, că nu-i vor mai vedea fața. Și l-au petrecut până la corabie.
