1 And after five days the high priest Ananias came down with certain elders, and with an orator, one Tertullus; and they informed the governor against Paul. 2 And when he was called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying,

Seeing that by thee we enjoy much peace, and that by thy providence evils are corrected for this nation, 3 we accept it in all ways and in all places, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness. 4 But, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I entreat thee to hear us of thy clemency a few words. 5 For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes: 6 who moreover assayed to profane the temple: on whom also we laid hold: 7 *24:7 Some ancient authorities insert and we would have judged him according to our law. But the chief captain Lysias came, and with great violence took him away out of our hands, commanding his accusers to come before thee. 8 from whom thou wilt be able, by examining him thyself, to take knowledge of all these things whereof we accuse him. 9 And the Jews also joined in the charge, affirming that these things were so.

10 And when the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, Paul answered,

Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I cheerfully make my defence: 11 seeing that thou canst take knowledge that it is not more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem: 12 and neither in the temple did they find me disputing with any man or stirring up a crowd, nor in the synagogues, nor in the city. 13 Neither can they prove to thee the things whereof they now accuse me. 14 But this I confess unto thee, that after the Way which they call a sect, so serve I the God of our fathers, believing all things which are according to the law, and which are written in the prophets; 15 having hope toward God, which these also themselves look for, that there shall be a resurrection both of the just and unjust. 16 Herein I also exercise myself to have a conscience void of offence toward God and men always. 17 Now after some years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings: 18 amidst which they found me purified in the temple, with no crowd, nor yet with tumult: but there were certain Jews from Asia— 19 who ought to have been here before thee, and to make accusation, if they had aught against me. 20 Or else let these men themselves say what wrong-doing they found when I stood before the council, 21 except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question before you this day.

22 But Felix, having more exact knowledge concerning the Way, deferred them, saying, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will determine your matter. 23 And he gave order to the centurion that he should be kept in charge, and should have indulgence; and not to forbid any of his friends to minister unto him.

24 But after certain days, Felix came with Drusilla, his wife, who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ Jesus. 25 And as he reasoned of righteousness, and self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was terrified, and answered, Go thy way for this time; and when I have a convenient season, I will call thee unto me. 26 He hoped withal that money would be given him of Paul: wherefore also he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him. 27 But when two years were fulfilled, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus; and desiring to gain favor with the Jews, Felix left Paul in bonds.

Au adus înaintea dregătorului plângere împotriva lui Pavel. 2 Pavel a fost chemat, și Tertul a început să-l pârască astfel: „Preaalesule Felix, tu ne faci să ne bucurăm de o pace mare și neamul acesta a căpătat îmbunătățiri sănătoase prin îngrijirile tale. 3 Lucrul acesta îl mărturisim cu toată mulțumirea, în toată vremea și în tot locul. 4 Dar, ca să nu te țin prea mult, te rog să asculți, în bunătatea ta, câteva cuvinte. 5 Am*Luca 23:2. Cap. 6:13;16:20;17:6;21:28.1 Pet. 2:12,15. găsit pe omul acesta, care este o ciumă: pune la cale răzvrătiri printre toți iudeii de pe tot pământul, este mai-marele partidei nazarinenilor 6 și*Cap. 21:28. a încercat să spurce chiar și Templul. Și am pus mâna pe el. Am vrut să-l judecăm*Ioan 18:31. după Legea noastră, 7 dar*Cap. 21:33. a venit căpitanul Lisias, l-a smuls din mâinile noastre, cu mare silă, 8 și a poruncit*Cap. 28:30. pârâșilor lui să vină înaintea ta. Dacă-l vei cerceta, tu însuți vei putea afla de la el toate lucrurile de care îl pârâm noi." 9 Iudeii s-au unit la învinuirea aceasta și au spus că așa stau lucrurile.

10 După ce i-a făcut dregătorul semn să vorbească, Pavel a răspuns: „Fiindcă știu că de mulți ani ești judecătorul neamului acestuia, voi răspunde cu încredere pentru apărarea mea. 11 Nu sunt mai mult de douăsprezece zile – te poți încredința de lucrul acesta – de când m-am suit să*Cap. 21:26. Vers. 17. mă închin la Ierusalim. 12 Nu*Cap. 25:8;28:17. m-au găsit nici în Templu, nici în sinagogi, nici în cetate stând de vorbă cu cineva sau făcând răscoală de norod. 13 Așa că n-ar putea dovedi lucrurile de care mă pârăsc acum. 14 Îți mărturisesc că slujesc Dumnezeului*Amos 8:14. Cap. 9:2. părinților mei după Calea*2 Tim. 1:3. pe care ei o numesc partidă; eu cred tot ce este scris în Lege*Cap. 26:22;28:23. și în Proroci 15 și am*Cap. 23:6;26:6,7;28:20. în Dumnezeu nădejdea aceasta, pe care o au și ei înșiși, că*Dan. 12:2.Ioan 5:28,29. va fi o înviere a celor drepți și a celor nedrepți. 16 De aceea mă*Cap. 23:1. silesc să am totdeauna un cuget curat înaintea lui Dumnezeu și înaintea oamenilor. 17 După o lipsă de mai mulți ani, am*Cap. 11:29,30;20:16.Rom. 15:25.2 Cor. 8:4.Gal. 2:10. venit să aduc milostenii neamului meu și să aduc daruri la Templu. 18 Tocmai atunci*Cap. 21:26,27;26:21. niște iudei din Asia m-au găsit curățit în Templu, nu cu gloată, nici cu zarvă. 19 Ei înșiși*Cap. 23:30;25:16. ar trebui să se înfățișeze înaintea ta și să mă pârască, dacă au ceva împotriva mea. 20 Sau să spună aceștia singuri de ce nelegiuire m-au găsit vinovat, când am stat înaintea soborului, 21 afară numai doar de strigătul acesta pe care l-am scos în mijlocul lor: ‘Pentru*Cap. 23:6;28:20. învierea morților sunt dat eu în judecată astăzi înaintea voastră.’" 22 Felix, care știa destul de bine despre „Calea" aceasta, i-a amânat zicând: „Am să cercetez pricina voastră când va veni căpitanul*Vers. 7. Lisias." 23 Și a poruncit sutașului să păzească pe Pavel, dar să-l lase puțin mai slobod și să nu oprească pe*Cap. 27:3;28:16. nimeni din ai lui să-i slujească sau să vină la el.

24 După câteva zile, a venit Felix cu nevastă-sa, Drusila, care era iudeică; a chemat pe Pavel și l-a ascultat despre credința în Hristos Isus. 25 Dar, pe când vorbea Pavel despre neprihănire, despre înfrânare și despre judecata viitoare, Felix, îngrozit, a zis: „De astă dată, du-te; când voi mai avea prilej, te voi chema." 26 Totodată el trăgea nădejde că Pavel are să-i*Exod 23:8. dea bani, de aceea trimitea și mai des să-l cheme, ca să stea de vorbă cu el.

27 Doi ani au trecut astfel; și în locul lui Felix, a venit Porcius Festus. Felix a vrut*Exod 23:2. Cap. 12:3;25:9,14. să facă pe placul iudeilor și a lăsat pe Pavel în temniță.
