1 Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all the peoples, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied unto you. 2 It hath seemed good unto me to show the signs and wonders that the Most High God hath wrought toward me. 3 How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.

4 I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace. 5 I saw a dream which made me afraid; and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me. 6 Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream. 7 Then came in the magicians, the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers; and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof. 8 But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and I told the dream before him, saying, 9 O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof. 10 Thus were the visions of my head upon my bed: I saw, and, behold, a tree in the midst of the earth; and the height thereof was great. 11 The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth. 12 The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was food for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the birds of the heavens dwelt in the branches thereof, and all flesh was fed from it. 13 I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and a holy one came down from heaven. 14 He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off its branches, shake off its leaves, and scatter its fruit: let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from its branches. 15 Nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven: and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth: 16 let his heart be changed from man’s, and let a beast’s heart be given unto him; and let seven times pass over him. 17 The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones; to the intent that the living may know that the Most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the lowest of men. 18 This dream I, king Nebuchadnezzar, have seen; and thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation, forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation; but thou art able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.

19 Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was stricken dumb for a while, and his thoughts troubled him. The king answered and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation, trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream be to them that hate thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine adversaries. 20 The tree that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to all the earth; 21 whose leaves were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was food for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the birds of the heavens had their habitation: 22 it is thou, O king, that art grown and become strong; for thy greatness is grown, and reacheth unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth. 23 And whereas the king saw a watcher and a holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew down the tree, and destroy it; nevertheless leave the stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field, and let it be wet with the dew of heaven: and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him; 24 this is the interpretation, O king, and it is the decree of the Most High, which is come upon my lord the king: 25 that thou shalt be driven from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and thou shalt be made to eat grass as oxen, and shalt be wet with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee; till thou know that the Most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. 26 And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the roots of the tree; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule. 27 Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if there may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.

28 All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar. 29 At the end of twelve months he was walking in the royal palace of Babylon. 30 The king spake and said, Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling-place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty? 31 While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken: The kingdom is departed from thee: 32 and thou shalt be driven from men; and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field; thou shalt be made to eat grass as oxen; and seven times shall pass over thee; until thou know that the Most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. 33 The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hair was grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws.

34 And at the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the Most High, and I praised and honored him that liveth for ever; for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom from generation to generation; 35 and all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou? 36 At the same time mine understanding returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent greatness was added unto me. 37 Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven; for all his works are truth, and his ways justice; and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

Cap. 2:44;6:26. veșnică, și stăpânirea Lui dăinuiește din neam în neam! 4 Eu, Nebucadnețar, trăiam liniștit în casa mea și fericit în palatul meu. 5 Am visat un vis care m-a înspăimântat; gândurile de care eram urmărit în patul meu și vedeniile*Cap. 2:28,29. duhului meu mă umpleau*Cap. 2:1. de groază. 6 Am poruncit atunci să aducă înaintea mea pe toți înțelepții Babilonului ca să-mi tâlcuiască visul. 7 Îndată au venit*Cap. 2:2. vrăjitorii, cititorii în stele, haldeenii și ghicitorii. Le-am spus visul, și nu mi l-au putut tâlcui. 8 La urmă de tot, s-a înfățișat înaintea mea Daniel, numit*Cap. 1:7. Beltșațar după numele dumnezeului meu și care*Is. 63:11. Vers. 18. Cap. 2:11;5:11,14. are în el duhul dumnezeilor celor sfinți. I-am spus visul și am zis: 9 ‘Beltșațare, căpetenia*Cap. 2:48;5:11. vrăjitorilor, știu că ai în tine duhul dumnezeilor sfinți și că pentru tine nicio taină nu este grea, deci tâlcuiește-mi vedeniile pe care le-am avut în vis. 10 Iată vedeniile care mi-au trecut prin cap când eram în pat. Mă uitam și iată că în mijlocul pământului era un*Ezec. 31:3. Vers. 20. copac foarte înalt. 11 Copacul acesta s-a făcut mare și puternic, vârful lui se înălța până la ceruri și se vedea de la marginile întregului pământ. 12 Frunza lui era frumoasă și avea roade multe; în el se găsea hrană pentru toți; fiarele*Ezec. 17:23;31:6.Plâng. 4:20. câmpului se adăposteau sub umbra lui, păsările cerului își făceau cuibul în ramurile lui și orice făptură vie se hrănea din el. 13 În vedeniile care-mi treceau prin cap în patul meu, mă uitam și iată că s-a coborât din ceruri un străjer*Ps. 103:20. Vers. 17,23. sfânt*Deut. 33:2. Cap. 8:13.Zah. 14:5.Iuda 14.. 14 El a strigat cu putere și a vorbit așa: «Tăiați*Mat. 3:10. copacul și rupeți ramurile; scuturați-i frunza și risipiți roadele; fugăriți fiarele*Ezec. 31:12. de sub el și păsările din ramurile lui! 15 Dar trunchiul cu rădăcinile lui lăsați-l în pământ și legați-l cu lanțuri de fier și de aramă în iarba de pe câmp, ca să fie udat de roua cerului și să fie la un loc cu fiarele în iarba pământului. 16 Inima lui de om i se va preface într-o inimă de fiară și vor trece șapte vremuri*Cap. 11:13;12:7. peste el. 17 Hotărârea aceasta a fost luată în sfatul străjerilor și pusă la cale înaintea sfinților, ca să știe*Ps. 9:16. cei vii că*Cap. 2:21. Vers. 25,32. Cap. 5:21. Cel Preaînalt stăpânește peste împărăția oamenilor, că o dă cui îi place și înalță în ea pe cel mai de jos dintre oameni!» 18 Iată visul pe care l-am visat eu, împăratul Nebucadnețar. Tu, Beltșațar, tâlcuiește-l, fiindcă*Gen. 41:8,15. Cap. 5:8,15. toți înțelepții din împărăția mea nu pot să mi-l tâlcuiască; tu însă poți, căci ai în tine duhul*Vers. 8. dumnezeilor sfinți.’ 19 Atunci, Daniel, numit*Vers. 8. Beltșațar, a rămas uimit o clipă și gândurile lui îl tulburau. Împăratul a luat din nou cuvântul și a zis: ‘Beltșațare, să nu te tulbure visul și tâlcuirea!’ Și Beltșațar a răspuns: ‘Domnul meu, visul acesta*2 Sam. 18:32.Ier. 29:7. să fie pentru vrăjmașii tăi și tâlcuirea lui, pentru potrivnicii tăi! 20 Copacul*Vers. 10-12. pe care l-ai văzut, care se făcuse atât de mare și puternic încât i se înălța vârful până la ceruri și se vedea de la toate capetele pământului, 21 copacul acesta, a cărui frunză era așa de frumoasă și care avea roade atât de multe și în care era hrană pentru toți, sub care se adăposteau fiarele câmpului și în ramurile căruia își făceau cuibul păsările cerului, 22 ești tu*Cap. 2:38., împărate, care ai ajuns mare și puternic, a cărui mărime a crescut și s-a înălțat până la ceruri și a cărui stăpânire*Ier. 27:6,7,8. se întinde până la marginile pământului. 23 Împăratul*Vers. 13. a văzut pe un străjer sfânt coborându-se și zicând: «Tăiați copacul și nimiciți-l, dar trunchiul cu rădăcinile lui lăsați-l în pământ și legați-l cu lanțuri de fier și de aramă în iarba de pe câmp, ca să fie udat de roua cerului și să stea la un loc cu fiarele*Cap. 5:21. câmpului până vor trece șapte vremuri peste el.» 24 Iată tâlcuirea acestui fapt, împărate, iată hotărârea Celui Preaînalt, care se va împlini asupra domnului meu, împăratul. 25 Te vor izgoni*Vers. 32. Cap. 5:21. din mijlocul oamenilor, vei locui la un loc cu fiarele câmpului și îți vor da să mănânci iarbă*Ps. 106:20;83:18. Vers. 17,32.Ier. 27:5. ca la boi; vei fi udat de roua cerului și șapte vremuri vor trece peste tine, până vei cunoaște că Cel Preaînalt stăpânește peste împărăția oamenilor și o dă cui vrea. 26 Porunca să lase trunchiul cu rădăcinile copacului înseamnă că împărăția ta îți va rămâne ție îndată ce vei recunoaște stăpânirea Celui ce este în*Mat. 21:25.Luca 15:18,21. ceruri. 27 De aceea, împărate, placă-ți sfatul meu! Pune capăt*1 Pet. 4:8. păcatelor tale și trăiește în neprihănire, rupe-o cu nelegiuirile tale și ai milă de cei nenorociți, și poate*Ps. 41:1. că ți se va prelungi*1 Împ. 21:29. fericirea!’ 28 Toate aceste lucruri s-au împlinit asupra împăratului Nebucadnețar. 29 După douăsprezece luni, pe când se plimba pe acoperișul palatului împărătesc din Babilon, 30 împăratul*Prov. 16:18. Cap. 5:20. a luat cuvântul și a zis: ‘Oare nu este acesta Babilonul cel mare pe care mi l-am zidit eu, ca loc de ședere împărătească, prin puterea bogăției mele și spre slava măreției mele?’ 31 Nu se sfârșise încă vorba*Cap. 5:5.Luca 12:20. aceasta a împăratului, și un glas*Vers. 24. s-a coborât din cer și a zis: ‘Află, împărate Nebucadnețar, că ți s-a luat împărăția! 32 Te vor izgoni*Vers. 25. din mijlocul oamenilor și vei locui la un loc cu fiarele câmpului; îți vor da să mănânci iarbă ca la boi și vor trece peste tine șapte vremuri până vei recunoaște că Cel Preaînalt stăpânește peste împărăția oamenilor și că o dă cui vrea!’ 33 Chiar în clipa aceea s-a împlinit cuvântul acela asupra lui Nebucadnețar. A fost izgonit din mijlocul oamenilor, a mâncat iarbă ca boii, trupul i-a fost udat de roua cerului până i-a crescut părul ca penele vulturului și unghiile ca ghearele păsărilor. 34 După trecerea*Vers. 26. vremii sorocite, eu, Nebucadnețar, am ridicat ochii spre cer și mi-a venit iarăși mintea la loc. Am binecuvântat pe Cel Preaînalt, am lăudat și slăvit pe Cel ce trăiește*Cap. 12:7.Apoc. 4:10. veșnic, Acela a cărui stăpânire*Ps. 10:16. Cap. 2:44;7:14.Mica 4:7.Luca 1:1. este veșnică și a cărui împărăție dăinuiește din neam în neam. 35 Toți*Is. 40:15,17. locuitorii pământului sunt o nimica înaintea Lui; El face ce vrea*Ps. 115:3;135:6. cu oastea cerurilor și cu locuitorii pământului și nimeni*Iov 34:29. nu poate să stea împotriva mâinii Lui, nici să-I zică: ‘Ce*Iov 9:12.Is. 45:9.Rom. 9:20. faci?’ 36 În vremea aceea, mi-a venit mintea înapoi; slava*Vers. 26. împărăției mele, măreția și strălucirea mea mi s-au dat înapoi; sfetnicii și mai-marii mei din nou m-au căutat; am fost pus iarăși peste împărăția mea și puterea mea a crescut*Iov 42:12.Prov. 22:4.Mat. 6:33.. 37 Acum, eu, Nebucadnețar, laud, înalț și slăvesc pe Împăratul cerurilor, căci toate*Ps. 33:4.Apoc. 15:3;16:7. lucrările Lui sunt adevărate, toate căile Lui sunt drepte și El poate*Exod 18:11. Cap. 5:20. să smerească pe cei ce umblă cu mândrie!"
