1 The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin: 2 to whom the word of Jehovah came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign. 3 It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.

4 Now the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee, and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee; I have appointed thee a prophet unto the nations. 6 Then said I, Ah, Lord Jehovah! behold, I know not how to speak; for I am a child. 7 But Jehovah said unto me, Say not, I am a child; for to whomsoever I shall send thee thou shalt go, and whatsoever I shall command thee thou shalt speak. 8 Be not afraid because of them; for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith Jehovah. 9 Then Jehovah put forth his hand, and touched my mouth; and Jehovah said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth: 10 see, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.

11 Moreover the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond-tree. 12 Then said Jehovah unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I watch over my word to perform it.

13 And the word of Jehovah came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a boiling caldron; and the face thereof is from the north. 14 Then Jehovah said unto me, Out of the north evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land. 15 For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith Jehovah; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah. 16 And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands. 17 Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at them, lest I dismay thee before them. 18 For, behold, I have made thee this day a fortified city, and an iron pillar, and brazen walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land. 19 And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee, saith Jehovah, to deliver thee.

Vers. 17. de ei, căci Eu sunt cu tine*Exod 3:12.Deut. 31:6,8.Ios. 1:5. Cap. 15:20.Fapte 26:17.Evr. 13:6. ca să te scap", zice Domnul. 9 Apoi Domnul Și-a întins*Is. 6:7. mâna și mi-a atins gura. Și Domnul mi-a zis: „Iată, pun cuvintele Mele*Is. 51:16. Cap. 5:14. în gura ta. 10 Iată*1 Împ. 19:17., astăzi te pun peste neamuri și peste împărății, ca să smulgi*Cap. 18:7.2 Cor. 10:4,5. și să tai, să dărâmi și să nimicești, să zidești și să sădești." 11 Cuvântul Domnului mi-a vorbit astfel: „Ce vezi, Ieremio?" Eu am răspuns: „Văd un veghetor." 12 Și Domnul mi-a zis: „Bine ai văzut, căci Eu veghez asupra Cuvântului Meu, ca să-l împlinesc." 13 Cuvântul Domnului mi-a vorbit a doua oară astfel: „Ce vezi?" Eu am răspuns: „Văd un cazan*Ezec. 11:3,7;24:3. clocotind dinspre miazănoapte." 14 Și Domnul mi-a zis: „De la miazănoapte*Cap. 4:6;6:1. va izbucni nenorocirea peste toți locuitorii țării. 15 Căci, iată, voi chema*Cap. 5:15;6:22;10:22;25:9. toate popoarele împărățiilor de la miazănoapte, zice Domnul, ele vor veni și își vor așeza fiecare scaunul de domnie*Cap. 39:3;43:10. la intrarea porților Ierusalimului, împotriva tuturor zidurilor lui de jur împrejur și împotriva tuturor cetăților lui Iuda. 16 Îmi voi rosti judecățile împotriva lor din pricina întregii lor răutăți, pentru că M-au părăsit*Deut. 28:20. Cap. 17:13. și au adus tămâie altor dumnezei și s-au închinat înaintea lucrării mâinilor lor. 17 Dar tu încinge-ți coapsele*1 Împ. 18:46.2 Împ. 4:29;9:1.Iov 38:3.Luca 12:35.1 Pet. 1:13., scoală-te și spune-le tot ce-ți voi porunci. Nu tremura*Exod 3:12. Vers. 8.Ezec. 2:6. înaintea lor, ca nu cumva să te fac să tremuri înaintea lor. 18 Iată că în ziua aceasta te fac o cetate întărită*Is. 50:7. Cap. 6:27; 15:20., un stâlp de fier și un zid de aramă împotriva întregii țări, împotriva împăraților lui Iuda, împotriva căpeteniilor lui, împotriva preoților lui și împotriva poporului țării. 19 Ei vor lupta împotriva ta, dar nu te vor birui, căci Eu*Vers. 8. sunt cu tine, ca să te scap", zice Domnul.
