1 Hear ye the word which Jehovah speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: 2 thus saith Jehovah, Learn not the way of the nations, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the nations are dismayed at them. 3 For the customs of the peoples are vanity; for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman with the axe. 4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. 5 They are like a palm-tree, of turned work, and speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good.

6 There is none like unto thee, O Jehovah; thou art great, and thy name is great in might. 7 Who should not fear thee, O King of the nations? for to thee doth it appertain; forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their royal estate, there is none like unto thee. 8 But they are together brutish and foolish: the instruction of idols! it is but a stock. 9 There is silver beaten into plates, which is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the artificer and of the hands of the goldsmith; blue and purple for their clothing; they are all the work of skilful men. 10 But Jehovah is the true God; he is the living God, and an everlasting King: at his wrath the earth trembleth, and the nations are not able to abide his indignation.

11 Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, these shall perish from the earth, and from under the heavens.

12 He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding hath he stretched out the heavens. 13 When he uttereth his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasuries. 14 Every man is become brutish and is without knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his graven image; for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them. 15 They are vanity, a work of delusion: in the time of their visitation they shall perish. 16 The portion of Jacob is not like these; for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance: Jehovah of hosts is his name.

17 Gather up thy wares out of the land, O thou that abidest in the siege. 18 For thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this time, and will distress them, that they may feel it.

19 Woe is me because of my hurt! my wound is grievous: but I said, Truly this is my grief, and I must bear it. 20 My tent is destroyed, and all my cords are broken: my children are gone forth from me, and they are not: there is none to spread my tent any more, and to set up my curtains. 21 For the shepherds are become brutish, and have not inquired of Jehovah: therefore they have not prospered, and all their flocks are scattered. 22 The voice of tidings, behold, it cometh, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah a desolation, a dwelling-place of jackals.

23 O Jehovah, I know that the way of man is not in himself; it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. 24 O Jehovah, correct me, but in measure; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing. 25 Pour out thy wrath upon the nations that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name; for they have devoured Jacob, yea, they have devoured him and consumed him, and have laid waste his habitation.

1 Ascultați Cuvântul pe care vi-l vorbește Domnul, casa lui Israel! 2 Așa vorbește Domnul: „Nu*Lev. 18:3;20:23. vă luați după felul de viețuire al neamurilor și nu vă temeți de semnele cerului, pentru că neamurile se tem de ele. 3 Căci obiceiurile popoarelor sunt deșarte. Taie*Is. 40:19,20;44:9;45:20. un lemn din pădure; mâna meșterului îl lucrează cu securea; 4 îl împodobește cu argint și aur, și ei îl țintuiesc*Is. 41:7;46:7. cu cuie și ciocane, ca să nu se clatine. 5 Dumnezeii aceștia sunt ca o sperietoare de păsări într-un ogor de castraveți*10:5 Sau: ca un stâlp tras la strung. și nu*Ps. 115:5;135:16.Hab. 2:19.1 Cor. 12:2. vorbesc; sunt duși*Ps. 115:7.Is. 46:1,7. de alții, pentru că nu pot să meargă. Nu vă temeți de ei, căci nu pot să facă niciun*Is. 41:23. rău și nu sunt în stare să facă niciun bine." 6 Niciunul nu este ca Tine*Exod 15:11.Ps. 86:8,10., Doamne! Mare ești Tu și mare este Numele Tău prin puterea Ta. 7 Cine*Apoc. 15:4. să nu se teamă de Tine, Împărate al neamurilor? Ție Ți se cuvine teama, căci între*Ps. 89:6. toți înțelepții neamurilor și în toate împărățiile lor, niciunul nu este ca Tine. 8 Toți, laolaltă, sunt proști*Ps. 115:8.Is. 41:29.Hab. 2:18.Zah. 10:2.Rom. 1:21,22. și fără minte, știința idolilor nu este decât deșertăciune, e lemn! 9 Ei aduc din Tarsis foițe de argint și aur*Dan. 10:5. din Ufaz; meșterul și mâna argintarului le pun în lucru; hainele acestor dumnezei sunt de materii vopsite în albastru și în purpură, toate sunt lucrate*Ps. 115:4. de meșteri iscusiți. 10 Dar Domnul este Dumnezeu cu adevărat, este un Dumnezeu*1 Tim. 6:17. viu și un Împărat*Ps. 10:16. veșnic. Pământul tremură de mânia Lui și neamurile nu pot să sufere urgia lui. 11 Așa să le vorbiți: „Dumnezeii*Ps. 96:5. care n-au făcut nici cerurile, nici pământul vor pieri*Vers. 15.Is. 2:18.Zah. 13:2. de pe pământ și de sub ceruri." 12 Dar El a făcut*Gen. 1:1,6,9.Ps. 136:5,6. Cap. 51:15. pământul prin puterea Lui, a întemeiat*Ps. 93:1. lumea prin înțelepciunea Lui, a întins*Iov 9:8.Ps. 104:2.Is. 40:22. cerurile prin priceperea Lui. 13 La tunetul*Iov 38:34. Lui, urlă apele în ceruri; El ridică*Ps. 135:7. norii de la marginile pământului, dă naștere fulgerelor și ploii și scoate vântul din cămările Lui. 14 Atunci*Cap. 51:17,18. se arată omul cât este de prost*Prov. 30:2. cu știința lui și orice argintar*Is. 42:17;44:11;45:16. rămâne de rușine cu chipul lui cioplit, căci idolii*Hab. 2:18. lui nu sunt decât minciună și nu este nicio suflare în ei; 15 sunt un lucru de nimic, o lucrare înșelătoare, și vor pieri*Vers. 11. când va veni pedeapsa. 16 Dar Cel ce este partea*Ps. 16:5;73:26;119:57. Cap. 51:19.Plâng. 3:24. lui Iacov nu este ca ei, căci El a întocmit totul, și Israel*Deut. 32:9.Ps. 74:2. este seminția moștenirii Lui – Domnul oștirilor este Numele*Is. 47:4;51:15;54:5. Cap. 31:35;32:18; 50:34. Lui.

17 Ia din țară legătura*Cap. 6:1.Ezec. 12:3. cu ce este al tău, tu, care ești în strâmtorare! 18 Căci așa vorbește Domnul: „Iată, de data aceasta voi arunca*1 Sam. 25:29. Cap. 16:13. departe pe locuitorii țării. Îi voi strânge de aproape, ca*Ezec. 6:10. să simtă." 19 „Vai de*Cap. 4:19;8:21;9:1. mine! Sunt zdrobită! Mă doare rana! Dar eu zic: ‘O nenorocire*Ps. 77:10. a dat peste mine*Mica 7:9. și o voi suferi!’ 20 Cortul*Cap. 4:20. îmi este dărâmat, toate funiile îmi sunt rupte, fiii mei m-au părăsit, nu mai sunt; n-am pe nimeni care să-mi întindă cortul din nou sau să-mi ridice pânzele!" 21 Păstorii s-au prostit, n-au căutat pe Domnul; pentru aceea n-au propășit și li se risipesc toate turmele. 22 Iată, se aude un vuiet! O mare zarvă vine de la miazănoapte*Cap. 1:15;4:6;5:15;6:22. să prefacă cetățile lui Iuda într-un pustiu, într-o vizuină*Cap. 9:11. de șacali. 23 Știu, Doamne, că soarta omului*Prov. 16:1;20:24. nu este în puterea lui; nici nu stă în puterea omului când umblă să-și îndrepte pașii spre țintă. 24 Pedepsește-mă, Doamne*Ps. 6:1;38:1. Cap. 30:11., dar cu măsură, și nu în mânia Ta, ca să nu mă nimicești! 25 Varsă-Ți*Ps. 79:6. urgia peste neamurile care*Iov 18:21.1 Tes. 4:5.2 Tes. 1:8. nu Te cunosc și peste popoarele care nu cheamă Numele Tău! Căci mănâncă*Cap. 8:16. pe Iacov, îl înghit, îl topesc și-i pustiesc locuința.
