1 And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor heard thereof, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph, 2 and to the kings that were on the north, in the hill-country, and in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, and in the lowland, and in the heights of Dor on the west, 3 to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the hill-country, and the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpah. 4 And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea-shore in multitude, with horses and chariots very many. 5 And all these kings met together; and they came and encamped together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel.

6 And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them; for to-morrow at this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hock their horses, and burn their chariots with fire. 7 So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly, and fell upon them. 8 And Jehovah delivered them into the hand of Israel, and they smote them, and chased them unto great Sidon, and unto Misrephoth-maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining. 9 And Joshua did unto them as Jehovah bade him: he hocked their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire.

10 And Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and smote the king thereof with the sword: for Hazor beforetime was the head of all those kingdoms. 11 And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them; there was none left that breathed: and he burnt Hazor with fire. 12 And all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them, did Joshua take, and he smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them; as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded. 13 But as for the cities that stood on their mounds, Israel burned none of them, save Hazor only; that did Joshua burn. 14 And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took for a prey unto themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, neither left they any that breathed. 15 As Jehovah commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua: and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that Jehovah commanded Moses.

16 So Joshua took all that land, the hill-country, and all the South, and all the land of Goshen, and the lowland, and the Arabah, and the hill-country of Israel, and the lowland of the same; 17 from mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir, even unto Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon: and all their kings he took, and smote them, and put them to death. 18 Joshua made war a long time with all those kings. 19 There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: they took all in battle. 20 For it was of Jehovah to harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that he might utterly destroy them, that they might have no favor, but that he might destroy them, as Jehovah commanded Moses.

21 And Joshua came at that time, and cut off the Anakim from the hill-country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill-country of Judah, and from all the hill-country of Israel: Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities. 22 There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remain. 23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Jehovah spake unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land had rest from war.

Mițpa. 4 Au ieșit ei și toate oștirile lor împreună cu ei, alcătuind un popor fără număr, ca nisipul*Gen. 22:17;32:12.Jud. 7:12.1 Sam. 13:5. care este pe marginea mării, și având cai și care în foarte mare număr. 5 Toți împărații aceștia au hotărât un loc de întâlnire și au venit de au tăbărât împreună la apele Merom, ca să lupte împotriva lui Israel. 6 Domnul a zis lui Iosua: „Nu te*Cap. 10:8. teme de ei, căci mâine, pe vremea aceasta, îi voi da bătuți pe toți înaintea lui Israel. Cailor*2 Sam. 8:4. să le tai vinele picioarelor, iar carele lor să le arzi în foc." 7 Iosua cu toți oamenii lui de război au venit pe neașteptate peste ei la apele Merom și s-au năpustit în mijlocul lor. 8 Domnul i-a dat în mâinile lui Israel; ei i-au bătut și i-au urmărit până la Sidonul cel mare, până la Misrefot-Maim*Cap. 13:6. și până în valea Mițpa la răsărit; i-au bătut fără să lase să scape vreunul. 9 Iosua le-a făcut cum*Vers. 6. îi spusese Domnul: cailor le-a tăiat vinele picioarelor, iar carele lor le-a ars în foc.

10 La întoarcere și în același timp, Iosua a luat Hațorul și a trecut prin sabie pe împăratul lui. Hațorul era mai înainte capitala tuturor acestor împărății. 11 Au trecut prin ascuțișul sabiei și au nimicit cu desăvârșire pe toți cei ce se găseau în el: n-a rămas nimic din ce avea suflare de viață și au pus foc Hațorului. 12 Iosua a luat, de asemenea, toate cetățile împăraților acelora, și pe toți împărații lor i-a trecut prin ascuțișul sabiei și i-a nimicit cu desăvârșire, cum*Num. 33:52.Deut. 7:2;20:16,17. poruncise Moise, robul Domnului. 13 Dar Israel n-a ars niciuna din cetățile așezate pe dealuri, afară numai de Hațor, care a fost arsă de Iosua. 14 Copiii lui Israel au păstrat pentru ei toată prada cetăților acelora și vitele, dar au trecut prin ascuțișul sabiei pe toți oamenii, până i-au nimicit, fără să lase ceva din ce are suflare de viață. 15 Iosua*Exod 34:11,12. a împlinit poruncile date de Domnul robului Său*Deut. 7:2. Moise și de Moise lui*Cap. 1:7. Iosua; n-a lăsat nimic neîmplinit din tot ce poruncise lui Moise Domnul. 16 Astfel, Iosua a luat toată țara aceasta, muntele*Cap. 12:8., toată partea de miazăzi, toată*Cap. 10:41. țara Gosen, valea, câmpia, muntele lui Israel și văile lui, 17 de la muntele cel*Cap. 12:7. pleșuv care se înalță spre Seir până la Baal-Gad, în valea Libanului, la poalele muntelui Hermon. A luat pe toți împărații*Deut. 7:24. Cap. 12:7. lor, i-a bătut și i-a omorât. 18 Războiul pe care l-a purtat Iosua împotriva tuturor acestor împărați a ținut multă vreme. 19 N-a rămas nicio cetate care să fi făcut pace cu copiii lui Israel, afară de heviți*Cap. 9:3,7., care locuiau în Gabaon; pe toate le-au luat prin luptă. 20 Căci Domnul*Deut. 2:30.Jud. 14:4.1 Sam. 2:25.1 Împ. 12:15.Rom. 9:18. a îngăduit ca popoarele acelea să-și împietrească inima și să lupte împotriva lui Israel, pentru ca Israel să le nimicească cu desăvârșire, fără să aibă milă de ele, și să le nimicească, după cum*Deut. 20:16,17. poruncise lui Moise Domnul. 21 În același timp, Iosua a pornit și a nimicit pe anachimi*Num. 13:22,33.Deut. 1:28. Cap. 15:13,14., din muntele Hebronului, din Debir, din Anab, din tot muntele lui Iuda și din tot muntele lui Israel; Iosua i-a nimicit cu desăvârșire, împreună cu cetățile lor. 22 N-au rămas deloc anachimi în țara copiilor lui Israel; n-au rămas decât la Gaza, la Gat*1 Sam. 17:4. și la Asdod*Cap. 15:46.. 23 Iosua a pus stăpânire deci pe toată țara, potrivit*Num. 34:2. cu tot ce spusese lui Moise Domnul. Și Iosua a dat-o de moștenire lui Israel, fiecăruia i-a dat partea lui*Num. 26:53. Cap. 14–19., după semințiile lor. Apoi țara*Cap. 14:15;21:44;22:4;23:1. s-a odihnit de război.
