1 Why are times not laid up by the Almighty?

And why do not they that know him see his days?

2 There are that remove the landmarks;

They violently take away flocks, and feed them.

3 They drive away the ass of the fatherless;

They take the widow’s ox for a pledge.

4 They turn the needy out of the way:

The poor of the earth all hide themselves.

5 Behold, as wild asses in the desert

They go forth to their work, seeking diligently for food;

The wilderness yieldeth them bread for their children.

6 They cut their provender in the field;

And they glean the vintage of the wicked.

7 They lie all night naked without clothing,

And have no covering in the cold.

8 They are wet with the showers of the mountains,

And embrace the rock for want of a shelter.

9 There are that pluck the fatherless from the breast,

And take a pledge of the poor;

10 So that they go about naked without clothing,

And being hungry they carry the sheaves.

11 They make oil within the walls of these men;

They tread their winepresses, and suffer thirst.

12 From out of the populous city men groan,

And the soul of the wounded crieth out:

Yet God regardeth not the folly.

13 These are of them that rebel against the light;

They know not the ways thereof,

Nor abide in the paths thereof.

14 The murderer riseth with the light;

He killeth the poor and needy;

And in the night he is as a thief.

15 The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight,

Saying, No eye shall see me:

And he disguiseth his face.

16 In the dark they dig through houses:

They shut themselves up in the day-time;

They know not the light.

17 For the morning is to all of them as thick darkness;

For they know the terrors of the thick darkness.

18 Swiftly they pass away upon the face of the waters;

Their portion is cursed in the earth:

They turn not into the way of the vineyards.

19 Drought and heat consume the snow waters:

So doth Sheol those that have sinned.

20 The womb shall forget him;

The worm shall feed sweetly on him;

He shall be no more remembered;

And unrighteousness shall be broken as a tree.

21 He devoureth the barren that beareth not,

And doeth not good to the widow.

22 Yet God preserveth the mighty by his power:

He riseth up that hath no assurance of life.

23 God giveth them to be in security, and they rest thereon;

And his eyes are upon their ways.

24 They are exalted; yet a little while, and they are gone;

Yea, they are brought low, they are taken out of the way as all others,

And are cut off as the tops of the ears of grain.

25 And if it be not so now, who will prove me a liar,

And make my speech nothing worth?

și de ce nu văd cei ce-L cunosc zilele Lui de pedeapsă?

2 Sunt unii care mută hotarele*Deut. 19:14;27:17.Prov. 22:28;23:10.Osea 5:10., fură turmele și le pasc;

3 iau măgarul orfanului,

iau zălog*Deut. 24:6,10,12,17. Cap. 22:6. vaca văduvei;

4 îmbrâncesc din drum pe cei lipsiți,

silesc pe toți nenorociții*Prov. 28:28. din țară să se ascundă.

5 Și aceștia, ca măgarii sălbatici din pustie,

ies dimineața la lucru să caute hrană

și în pustie trebuie să caute pâinea pentru copiii lor.

6 Taie nutrețul care a mai rămas pe câmp,

culeg ciorchinele rămase pe urma culegătorilor în via celui nelegiuit.

7 Îi apucă*Exod 22:26,27.Deut. 24:12,13. Cap. 22:6. noaptea în umezeală,

fără îmbrăcăminte, fără învelitoare împotriva frigului.

8 Îi pătrunde ploaia munților

și, neavând alt adăpost, se ghemuiesc*Plâng. 4:5. lângă stânci.

9 Aceia smulg pe orfan de la țâță,

iau zălog tot ce are săracul.

10 Și săracii umblă goi de tot, fără îmbrăcăminte,

strâng snopii și-s flămânzi;

11 în grădinile nelegiuitului ei fac untdelemn,

calcă teascul și le este sete;

12 în cetăți se aud vaietele celor ce mor,

sufletul celor răniți strigă…

Și Dumnezeu nu ia seama la aceste mișelii!

13 Alții sunt vrăjmași ai luminii,

nu cunosc căile ei,

nu umblă pe cărările ei.

14 Ucigașul se scoală în revărsatul*Ps. 10:8. zorilor,

ucide pe cel sărac și lipsit,

și noaptea fură.

15 Ochiul*Prov. 7:9. preacurvarului pândește amurgul:

‘Nimeni nu mă va vedea’, zice*Ps. 10:11. el,

și își pune o maramă pe față.

16 Noaptea sparg casele,

ziua stau închiși;

se tem de lumină*Ioan 3:20..

17 Pentru ei, dimineața este umbra morții

și, când o văd, simt toate spaimele morții.

18 Dar nelegiuitul alunecă ușor pe fața apelor,

pe pământ n-are decât o parte blestemată

și niciodată n-apucă pe drumul celor vii!

19 Cum sorb seceta și căldura apele zăpezii,

așa înghite Locuința morților pe cei ce păcătuiesc.

20 Pântecele mamei îl uită,

viermii se ospătează cu el,

nimeni nu-și mai aduce aminte*Prov. 10:7. de el!

Nelegiuitul este sfărâmat ca un copac,

21 el, care prădează pe femeia stearpă și fără copii,

el, care nu face niciun bine văduvei!…

22 Și totuși Dumnezeu, prin puterea Lui, lungește zilele celor silnici,

și iată-i în picioare când nu mai trăgeau nădejde de viață;

23 El le dă liniște și încredere,

are privirile*Ps. 11:4.Prov. 15:3. îndreptate spre căile lor.

24 S-au ridicat, și într-o clipă nu mai sunt:

cad, mor ca toți oamenii,

sunt tăiați ca spicele coapte.

25 Nu este așa?

Cine mă va dovedi de minciună,

cine-mi va nimici cuvintele mele?"
