1 When Ephraim spake, there was trembling; he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died. 2 And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, even idols according to their own understanding, all of them the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves. 3 Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the dew that passeth early away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the threshing-floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.

4 Yet I am Jehovah thy God from the land of Egypt; and thou shalt know no god but me, and besides me there is no saviour. 5 I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought. 6 According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted: therefore have they forgotten me. 7 Therefore am I unto them as a lion; as a leopard will I watch by the way; 8 I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart; and there will I devour them like a lioness; the wild beast shall tear them.

9 It is thy destruction, O Israel, that thou art against me, against thy help. 10 Where now is thy king, that he may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges, of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes? 11 I have given thee a king in mine anger, and have taken him away in my wrath. 12 The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is laid up in store. 13 The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for it is time he should not tarry in the place of the breaking forth of children. 14 I will ransom them from the power of Sheol; I will redeem them from death: O death, where are thy plagues? O Sheol, where is thy destruction? repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.

15 Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the breath of Jehovah coming up from the wilderness; and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall make spoil of the treasure of all goodly vessels. 16 Samaria shall bear her guilt; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword; their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.

Cap. 12:9. sunt Domnul Dumnezeul tău, din țara Egiptului încoace. Tu cunoști că nu este alt Dumnezeu*Is. 43:11;45:21. afară de Mine și nu este alt Mântuitor afară de Mine. 5 Eu*Deut. 2:7;32:10. te-am cunoscut în pustie, într-un pământ*Deut. 8:15;32:10. fără apă. 6 Dar, când au dat de pășune*Deut. 8:12,14;32:15., s-au săturat și, când s-au săturat, inima li s-a umflat de mândrie, de aceea M-au uitat*Cap. 8:14.. 7 Eu M-am făcut ca un leu*Plâng. 3:10. Cap. 5:14. pentru ei și-i pândesc ca un pardos*Ier. 5:6. pe drum. 8 Mă năpustesc asupra lor ca o ursoaică*2 Sam. 17:8.Prov. 17:12. lipsită de puii ei, le sfâșii învelișul inimii, îi înghit pe dată ca un leu și fiarele câmpului îi vor face bucăți. 9 Pieirea*Prov. 6:32. Cap. 14:1.Mal. 1:9. ta, Israele, este că ai fost împotriva Mea, împotriva Celui ce te putea ajuta*Vers. 4.. 10 Unde este împăratul tău ca să te scape*Deut. 32:38. Cap. 10:3. Vers. 4. în toate cetățile tale? Unde sunt judecătorii tăi despre care ziceai*1 Sam. 8:5,19.: ‘Dă-mi un împărat și domni’? 11 Ți-am dat un împărat*1 Sam. 8:7;10:19;15:22,23;16:1. Cap. 10:3. în mânia Mea și ți-l iau în urgia Mea! 12 Nelegiuirea*Deut. 32:34.Iov 14:17. lui Efraim este strânsă, păcatul lui este păstrat. 13 Îl vor apuca durerile nașterii*Is. 13:8.Ier. 30:6.; este un copil*Prov. 22:3. neînțelept, căci nu poate să nască la vremea sorocită*2 Împ. 19:3.! 14 Îi voi răscumpăra din mâna Locuinței morților*Is. 25:8.Ezec. 37:12., îi voi izbăvi de la moarte. Moarte, unde*1 Cor. 15:54,55. îți este ciuma? Locuință a morților, unde îți este nimicirea? Căința*Ier. 15:6.Rom. 11:29. este ascunsă de privirile Mele!" 15 Oricât de roditor*Gen. 41:52;48:19. ar fi Efraim în mijlocul fraților săi, tot va veni vântul de răsărit*Ier. 4:11.Ezec. 17:10;19:12. Cap. 4:19., se va stârni din pustie un vânt al Domnului, îi va usca izvoarele și-i va seca fântânile; va jefui vistieria de toate vasele ei de preț. 16 Samaria este pedepsită pentru că s-a răzvrătit*2 Împ. 18:12. împotriva Dumnezeului ei. Vor cădea uciși de sabie*2 Împ. 8:12;15:16.Is. 13:16. Cap. 10:14,15.Amos 1:13.Naum 3:10.; pruncii lor vor fi zdrobiți și vor spinteca pântecele femeilor lor însărcinate.
