For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.

1 Hear this, all ye peoples;

Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world,

2 Both low and high,

Rich and poor together.

3 My mouth shall speak wisdom;

And the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.

4 I will incline mine ear to a parable:

I will open my dark saying upon the harp.

5 Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil,

When iniquity at my heels compasseth me about?

6 They that trust in their wealth,

And boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

7 None of them can by any means redeem his brother,

Nor give to God a ransom for him

8 (For the redemption of their life is costly,

And it faileth for ever),

9 That he should still live alway,

That he should not see corruption.

10 For he shall see it. Wise men die;

The fool and the brutish alike perish,

And leave their wealth to others.

11 Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever,

And their dwelling-places to all generations;

They call their lands after their own names.

12 But man being in honor abideth not:

He is like the beasts that perish.

13 This their way is their folly:

Yet after them men approve their sayings. [Selah

14 They are appointed as a flock for Sheol;

Death shall be their shepherd:

And the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning;

And their beauty shall be for Sheol to consume,

That there be no habitation for it.

15 But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol;

For he will receive me. [Selah

16 Be not thou afraid when one is made rich,

When the glory of his house is increased:

17 For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away;

His glory shall not descend after him.

18 Though while he lived he blessed his soul

(And men praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself),

19 He shall go to the generation of his fathers;

They shall never see the light.

20 Man that is in honor, and understandeth not,

Is like the beasts that perish.

1 Ascultați lucrul acesta, toate popoarele,

luați aminte, toți locuitorii lumii:

2 mici*Ps. 62:9. și mari,

bogați și săraci!

3 Gura mea va vorbi cuvinte înțelepte

și inima mea are gânduri pline de judecată.

4 Eu îmi plec*Ps. 78:2.Mat. 13:35. urechea la pildele care îmi sunt insuflate,

îmi încep cântarea în sunetul harpei.

5 Pentru ce să mă tem în zilele nenorocirii,

când mă înconjoară nelegiuirea*Ps. 38:4. potrivnicilor mei?

6 Ei se încred*Iov 31:24,25.Ps. 52:7;62:10.Marcu 10:24.1 Tim. 6:17. în avuțiile lor

și se fălesc cu bogăția lor cea mare.

7 Dar nu pot să se răscumpere unul pe altul,

nici să dea*Mat. 16:26. lui Dumnezeu prețul răscumpărării.

8 Răscumpărarea*Iov 36:18,19. sufletului lor este așa de scumpă,

că nu se va face niciodată.

9 Nu vor trăi pe vecie,

nu pot să*Ps. 89:48. nu vadă mormântul.

10 Da, îl vor vedea: căci înțelepții*Ecl. 2:16. mor,

nebunul și prostul deopotrivă pier

și*Prov. 11:4.Ecl. 2:18,21. lasă altora avuțiile lor.

11 Ei își închipuie că veșnice le vor fi casele,

că locuințele lor vor dăinui din veac în veac,

ei, care dau*Gen. 4:17. numele lor la țări întregi.

12 Dar omul pus în*Ps. 39:5. Vers. 20.Ps. 82:7. cinste nu dăinuiește,

ci este ca dobitoacele care se taie.

13 Iată ce soartă au ei, cei plini de atâta încredere*Luca 12:20.,

precum și cei ce îi urmează, cărora le plac cuvintele lor. (Oprire)

14 Sunt duși ca o turmă în Locuința morților,

îi paște moartea

și, în*Ps. 47:3.Dan. 7:22.Mal. 4:3.Luca 22:30.1 Cor. 6:2.Apoc. 2:26;20:4. curând, oamenii fără prihană îi calcă în picioare:

li se duce frumusețea*Iov 4:21.Ps. 39:11. și Locuința morților le este locașul.

15 Dar mie Dumnezeu îmi va*Ps. 56:13.Osea 13:14. scăpa sufletul din Locuința morților,

căci mă va lua sub ocrotirea Lui. (Oprire)

16 Nu te teme când se îmbogățește cineva

și când i se înmulțesc vistieriile casei,

17 căci*Iov 27:19. nu ia nimic cu el când moare:

vistieriile lui nu se coboară după el.

18 Să se tot creadă omul fericit*Deut. 29:19.Luca 12:19. în viață,

să se tot laude cu bucuriile pe care și le face,

19 căci tot în locuința părinților săi va*Gen. 15:15. merge

și nu va mai vedea lumina*Iov 33:30.Ps. 56:13. niciodată.

20 Omul*Vers. 12. pus în cinste și fără pricepere

este*Ecl. 3:19. ca dobitoacele pe care le tai.
