1 Pelo que, não podendo esperar mais, achamos por bem ficar sós em Atenas;2 e enviamos Timóteo, nosso irmão, e ministro de Deus, e nosso cooperador no evangelho de Cristo, para vos consolidar e vos consolar acerca da vossa fé;3 para que nenhum homem se comova por estas aflições; porque vós mesmos sabeis que para isto fomos ordenados;4 porque verdadeiramente, estando ainda convosco, vos dizíamos antes que havíamos de sofrer tribulação, como sucedeu, e vós o sabeis.5 Por esta causa, não podendo eu também esperar mais, mandei-o saber da vossa fé, temendo que o tentador vos tentasse, e o nosso trabalho viesse a ser em vão.6 Mas agora, vindo Timóteo de vós para nós e trazendo-nos boas novas da vossa fé e caridade, e de como sempre tendes boa lembrança de nós, desejando muito ver-nos, como nós também de ver-vos,7 portanto, irmãos, ficamos consolados acerca de vós, em toda a nossa aflição e angústia, pela vossa fé,8 porque agora vivemos, se estais firmes no Senhor.9 Por que ação de graças poderemos dar a Deus por vós, por toda a alegria com que nos regozijamos por vossa causa diante do nosso Deus,10 orando insistentemente dia e noite, para que possamos ver o vosso rosto e aperfeiçoemos o que falta à vossa fé?11 Ora, o próprio Deus e nosso Pai e nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo dirija nosso caminho até vós.12 E o Senhor vos aumente e faça crescer e abundar em amor uns para com os outros e para com todos os homens, como também nós o fazemos para convosco;13 ao final, ele pode estabelecer os vossos corações, para que sejais irrepreensíveis em santidade diante de Deus, nosso Pai, na vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, com todos os seus santos.

1 Therefore, when we could no longer endure it, we were pleased to be left in Athens alone,2 and sent Timothy, our brother and minister of God, and our fellow laborer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you and encourage you concerning your faith,3 that no one should be disturbed by these afflictions; for you yourselves know that we are appointed to this.4 For, in fact, we told you before when we were with you that we were about to suffer affliction, just as it happened, and you know.5 For this reason, when I could no longer endure it, I sent to know your faith, lest somehow the tempter had tempted you, and our labor should be in vain.6 But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and brought us good news of your faith and love, and that you always have good remembrance of us, greatly desiring to see us, as we also desire to see you;7 therefore, brethren, in all our affliction and distress we were encouraged concerning you regarding your faith.8 For now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord.9 For what thanks can we render to God for you, for all the joy with which we rejoice for your sake before our God,10 night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face and complete what is lacking in your faith?11 Now may our God and Father Himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way to you.12 And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all, just as we do to you,13 so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.
