1 Mas também houve falsos profetas entre o povo, assim como entre vós haverá também falsos mestres, que introduzirão encobertamente heresias condenáveis, e até mesmo negando o Senhor que os comprou, trazendo sobre si repentina destruição.2 E muitos seguirão as suas maneiras perniciosas, pelas quais o caminho da verdade será blasfemado.3 E através da cobiça, eles farão mercadoria de vós com falsas palavras; sobre os quais o julgamento não tardará, e a sua perdição não adormece.4 Porque, se Deus não poupou aos anjos que pecaram, mas os lançou no inferno, e os entregou às cadeias da escuridão, ficando reservados para o julgamento;5 e não poupou ao mundo antigo, mas salvou Noé, a oitava pessoa, o pregador da justiça, trazendo o dilúvio sobre o mundo dos ímpios;6 e transformando as cidades de Sodoma e Gomorra em cinzas, condenou-as com a destruição, tornando-as um exemplo para os que posteriormente vivessem como ímpios;7 e livrou o justo Ló, enfadado do comportamento imundo dos homens ímpios;8 (porque este homem justo, habitando entre eles, afligia dia a dia a sua alma justa, ao ouvir e ver as suas obras injustas).9 O Senhor sabe como livrar da tentação o piedoso, e reservar o injusto para o dia do julgamento, para ser punido.10 Mas principalmente aqueles que andam segundo a carne em concupiscências de imundície, e desprezam as autoridades. Eles são presunçosos, obstinados, e não receiam falar mal das dignidades.11 Enquanto os anjos, que são maiores em força e poder, não pronunciam contra eles acusação maledicente diante do Senhor.12 Mas estes, como naturais animais irracionais, feitos para serem caçados e destruídos, falam mal do que não entendem, e hão de perecer em sua própria corrupção.13 E hão de receber a recompensa da injustiça; tendo eles por prazer a libertinagem em pleno dia, são imundícias e manchas, ostentando-se com seus próprios enganos enquanto eles festejam convosco.14 Tendo os olhos cheios de adultério, e que não conseguem cessar o pecado, seduzindo as almas instáveis, tendo o coração exercitado na prática da cobiça, filhos malditos;15 os quais abandonaram o caminho reto, e errantes seguiram o caminho de Balaão, o filho de Beor, que amava o salário da injustiça.16 Mas foi repreendido por sua iniquidade por um jumento mudo, falando com voz de homem, impediu a loucura do profeta.17 Estes são fontes sem água, nuvens levadas pela tempestade, para os quais a escuridão das trevas está reservada para sempre.18 Porque quando eles falam grandes palavras inchadas de vaidades, eles seduzem através das luxúrias da carne, através de muita devassidão, aqueles que tinham escapado daqueles que vivem no erro.19 Enquanto prometem-lhes liberdade, eles mesmos são os servos da corrupção. Para quem o homem é vencido, pelo mesmo ele é trazido à escravidão.20 Porque se depois de terem escapado das corrupções do mundo, pelo conhecimento do Senhor e Salvador Jesus Cristo, forem outra vez envolvidos e por elas vencidos, o último estado é, para eles, pior do que o primeiro.21 Porque melhor lhes teria sido que não conhecessem o caminho da justiça, do que, depois de conhecê-lo, desviarem-se do santo mandamento que lhes foi entregue.22 Mas isto lhes sobreveio de acordo com um verdadeiro provérbio: O cão voltou ao seu próprio vômito, e a porca que foi lavada chafurdou-se de lama.

1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.2 And many will follow their destructive ways, through whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.3 By covetousness they will exploit you with well-turned words; whose judgment of old is not idle, and their destruction does not slumber.4 For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to Tartarus and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment;5 and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing the flood on the world of the ungodly;6 and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those intending to live ungodly;7 and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the lustful behavior of the wicked8 (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, his righteous soul was tormented from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds);9 then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust for the day of judgment, to be punished,10 and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of defilement and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries.11 Whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord.12 But these, like natural brute beasts made to be caught and destroyed, speak evil of the things they do not understand, and will utterly perish in their own corruption,13 and will receive the wages of unrighteousness, as those who consider it pleasure to carouse in the daytime. They are spots and blemishes, delighting in their own deceptions while they feast with you,14 having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls; having a heart exercised in covetousness; accursed children.15 They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;16 but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet.17 These are wells without water, clouds being driven by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through wantonness, the ones who have actually escaped from those living in error.19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage.20 For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the full true knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the end is worse for them than the beginning.21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.22 But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: A dog returns to his own vomit, and, a sow, having been washed, to her wallowing in the mire.
