1 Esta segunda carta, amados, escrevo-vos agora, em ambas as quais desperto vossas mentes puras por meio de recordações.2 Para que vos lembreis das palavras que foram ditas antes pelos santos profetas, e do nosso mandamento, os apóstolos do Senhor e Salvador.3 Sabendo disto primeiro, que virão, nos últimos dias, escarnecedores, andando conforme as suas próprias concupiscências,4 e dizendo: Onde está a promessa da sua vinda? Porque desde que os pais dormiram, todas as coisas continuam como eram desde o princípio da criação.5 E nisto eles são voluntariamente ignorantes, que pela palavra de Deus os céus existiam desde a antiguidade, e a terra, que permanece fora da água e dentro da água.6 Por onde o mundo que estava então, sendo transbordado com água, pereceu.7 Mas os céus e a terra, que existem agora, pela mesma palavra estão reservados para o fogo, até o dia do juízo, e da perdição dos homens ímpios.8 Mas, amados, não ignoreis uma coisa, que um dia é para o Senhor como mil anos, e mil anos como um dia.9 O Senhor não é tardio a respeito de sua promessa, ainda que alguns homens a têm por tardia; mas é longânimo para conosco, não querendo que nenhum se perca, senão que todos cheguem ao arrependimento.10 Mas o dia do Senhor virá como o ladrão de noite; no qual os céus passarão com grande estrondo, e os elementos hão de derreter com calor intenso, e a terra e as obras que nela há se queimarão.11 Visto então que todas essas coisas serão dissolvidas, que tipo de pessoas deveis ser em toda santa conversação e piedade,12 aguardando, e apressando-vos para a vinda do dia de Deus, quando os céus, em fogo serão dissolvidos, e os elementos ao calor fervente derreter-se-ão?13 Mas nós, de acordo com a sua promessa, aguardamos novos céus e uma nova terra, onde habita a justiça.14 Por isso, amados, visto que aguardamos estas coisas, sede diligentes para que por ele sejais achados em paz, sem mácula e irrepreensíveis.15 E considere que a longanimidade de nosso Senhor é a salvação; como também o nosso amado irmão Paulo, segundo a sabedoria que lhe foi conferida, vos escreveu.16 Como em todas as suas cartas, fala sobre estas coisas, nas quais há algumas coisas difíceis de entender, que os ignorantes e instáveis deturpam, e como também as outras escrituras, para sua própria destruição.17 Vós, portanto, amados, visto que sabeis destas coisas de antemão, cuidai para que não vos deixeis levar pelo erro dos perversos, e acabeis caindo de vossa própria firmeza.18 Porém crescei na graça e conhecimento de nosso Senhor e Salvador Jesus Cristo. A ele seja dada a glória, tanto agora, como para sempre. Amém.

1 Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder),2 that you may remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior,3 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,4 and saying, Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were since the beginning of creation.5 For of this they are willfully ignorant: that by the Word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water,6 by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water.7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same Word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.8 But, beloved, do not be unaware of this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.9 The Lord is not slow concerning His promise, as some count slowness, but is longsuffering toward us, not purposing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with intense burning; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, of what sort ought you to be in holy behavior and godliness,12 looking for and earnestly hastening unto the coming of the Day of God, through which the heavens will be dissolved, being set on fire, and the elements will melt with intense burning?13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and without blemish;15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you,16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the unlearned and unstable twist, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.17 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware also that you not be led away with the error of the wicked, and fall from your own steadfastness.18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
