1 No segundo ano do rei Dario, no sexto mês, no primeiro dia do mês, veio a palavra do ­SENHOR por meio do profeta Ageu, a Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, governador de Judá, e a Josué, filho de Jozadaque, o sumo sacerdote, dizendo:2 Assim fala o ­SENHOR dos Exércitos, dizendo: Este povo diz: O tempo ainda não é chegado, o tempo em que a casa do ­SENHOR deve ser edificada.3 Então veio a palavra do ­SENHOR por meio do profeta Ageu, dizendo:4 Acaso é tempo para vós habitardes nas vossas casas forradas, e esta casa fica deserta?5 Agora portanto, assim diz o ­SENHOR dos Exércitos: Considerai os vossos ­caminhos.6 Tendes semeado muito, e recolhido pouco; vós comeis, mas não tens o suficiente; bebeis, mas não estais cheios de bebidas; vestis-vos, mas ninguém se aquece; e o que recebe salário, recebe-o para colocá-lo em um saco furado.7 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Considerai os vossos caminhos.8 Subi ao monte, e trazei madeira, e edificai a casa; e me agradarei nisso, e serei glorificado, diz o ­SENHOR.9 Vós esperastes o muito, e eis que veio a ser pouco; e quando o trouxestes para casa, eu dissipei com um sopro. Por quê? Disse o ­SENHOR dos Exércitos. Por causa da minha casa, que está deserta, e cada homem corre à sua própria casa.10 Portanto o céu sobre vós retém o orvalho, e a terra detém os seus frutos.11 E chamei uma seca sobre a terra, e sobre as montanhas, e sobre o trigo, e sobre o vinho novo, e sobre o azeite, e sobre o que a terra produz; e sobre os homens, sobre o gado, e sobre todo o trabalho das mãos.12 Então Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, e Josué, filho de Jozadaque, sumo sacerdote, e todo o restante do povo obedeceram à voz do ­SENHOR seu Deus, e às palavras do profeta Ageu, assim como o ­SENHOR seu Deus o enviara; e o povo temeu diante do ­SENHOR.13 Então falou Ageu, o mensageiro do ­SENHOR, a mensagem do ­SENHOR ao povo, dizendo: Eu sou convosco, diz o ­SENHOR.14 E o ­SENHOR suscitou o espírito de Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, governador de Judá, e o espírito de Josué, filho de Jozadaque, sumo sacerdote, e o espírito de todo o restante do povo, e eles vieram, e fizeram a obra na casa do ­SENHOR dos Exércitos, seu Deus,15 No vigésimo quarto dia do sexto mês, no segundo ano do rei Dario.

1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, the Word of Jehovah came by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah; and to Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,2 Thus says Jehovah of Hosts, saying, This people says, The time has not come, the time for the house of Jehovah to be built.3 Then the Word of Jehovah came by Haggai the prophet, saying,4 Is it time for you yourselves to live in your paneled houses, and this house to lie waste?5 And now, thus says Jehovah of Hosts: Set your heart on your ways.6 You have sown much, and bring in little; you eat, but do not have enough; you drink, but are not filled with drink; you put on clothes, but no one is warm. And, one hiring himself out earns wages for a bag of holes.7 Thus says Jehovah of Hosts: Set your heart on your ways.8 Go up to the mountain and bring wood and build this house. And I will be pleased with it, and I will be glorified, says Jehovah.9 You looked for much, and, lo, it came to little. And when you brought it home, then I blew on it. Why? says Jehovah of Hosts. Because of My house that is in ruins, and you, each man, runs to his own house.10 On account of this, the heavens above you hold back the dew, and the earth holds back her fruit.11 And I called for a drought in the land, and on the mountains, and on the grain, and on the new wine, and on the oil, and on that which the ground brings forth, and on man, and on livestock, and on all the labor of your hands.12 Then Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of Jehovah their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as Jehovah their God had sent him. And the people feared before Jehovah.13 And Haggai, the messenger of Jehovah, spoke the message of Jehovah to the people, saying, I am with you, says Jehovah.14 And Jehovah stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people. And they came and worked on the house of Jehovah of Hosts, their God,15 in the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
