1 E, enquanto eles falavam ao povo, os sacerdotes, e o capitão do templo, e os saduceus, vieram a eles,2 muito irritados porque ensinavam ao povo e pregavam através de Jesus, a ressurreição dos mortos.3 E lançaram mão deles, e os colocaram sob custódia até ao dia seguinte, porque já era tarde.4 Entretanto, muitos dos que ouviram a palavra creram, e o número de homens era de quase cinco mil.5 E aconteceu que, no dia seguinte, os seus governantes, os anciãos, os escribas,6 e Anás, o sumo sacerdote, e Caifás, e João, e Alexandre, e todos os que eram parentesco do sumo sacerdote, reuniram-se em Jerusalém.7 E, pondo-os no meio, eles perguntaram: Com que poder, ou em nome de quem fizestes isto?8 Então, Pedro, cheio do Espírito Santo, disse a eles: Governantes do povo e anciãos de Israel,9 se nós hoje somos examinados acerca de uma boa ação feita a um homem enfermo, e do modo que ele foi curado,10 seja do conhecimento de todos vós, e de todo o povo de Israel, que em nome de Jesus Cristo de Nazaré, a quem vós crucificastes, e a quem Deus ressuscitou dentre os mortos, por ele este homem está em pé diante de vós.11 Ele é a pedra que foi rejeitada por vós, os edificadores, a qual foi posta por cabeça de esquina.12 E em nenhum outro há salvação, porque não há nenhum outro nome dado aos homens debaixo do céu, pelo qual devamos ser salvos.13 Ora, eles vendo a ousadia de Pedro e João, e percebendo que eles eram homens iletrados e ignorantes, se maravilharam; e tinham conhecimento de que eles haviam estado com Jesus.14 E, contemplando o homem que fora curado em pé com eles, nada podiam dizer contra isto.15 Então lhes ordenaram que saíssem do conselho, e eles deliberavam entre si,16 dizendo: O que faremos a estes homens? Porque certamente um milagre notável feito por eles é manifesto a todos os que habitam em Jerusalém, e não podemos negá-lo.17 Mas, para que não se espalhe ainda mais entre o povo, ameacemo-los, para que de agora em diante eles não falem mais nesse nome a nenhum homem.18 E, chamando-os, ordenaram-lhes que de nenhum modo falassem nem ensinassem em nome de Jesus.19 Mas, Pedro e João lhes responderam e disseram a eles: Julgai vós se é justo, aos olhos de Deus, ouvir a vós mais do que a Deus.20 Porque nós não podemos deixar de falar das coisas que temos visto e ouvido.21 Depois de ameaçá-los ainda mais, os deixaram ir, não achando nada para castigá-los, por causa do povo, porque todos os homens glorificavam a Deus pelo que acontecera.22 Porque o homem em quem se operara aquele milagre de cura, tinha mais de quarenta anos de idade.23 E, soltos eles, foram para a companhia dos seus e contaram tudo o que os principais dos sacerdotes e os anciãos lhes disseram.24 E, ouvindo eles isto, levantaram a voz a Deus unânimes e disseram: Senhor, tu és o Deus que fizeste o céu, e a terra, e o mar, e tudo o que neles há;25 que pela boca do teu servo Davi disseste: Por que os pagãos se enfurecem, e os povos imaginam coisas vãs?26 Os reis da terra se levantaram, e os governantes se reuniram contra o Senhor, e contra o seu Cristo.27 Porque, verdadeiramente eles se ajuntaram contra o teu santo filho Jesus, que tu ungiste, não só Herodes, mas Pôncio Pilatos, com os gentios e o povo de Israel,28 para fazerem tudo o que a tua mão e o teu conselho determinaram antes para ser feito.29 E agora, Senhor, olha para as suas ameaças, e concede aos teus servos que falem com toda a ousadia a tua palavra,30 estendei a tua mão para curar, e para que sinais e maravilhas sejam feitos pelo nome do teu santo filho Jesus.31 E, tendo eles orado, foi abalado o lugar em que eles estavam reunidos, e todos foram cheios com o Espírito Santo e anunciavam a palavra de Deus com ousadia.32 E a multidão dos que criam era um só coração, e uma só alma, e ninguém dizia que algo do que possuía fosse seu, mas tinham todas as coisas em comum.33 E com grande poder os apóstolos davam testemunho da ressurreição do Senhor Jesus, e havia uma abundante graça sobre todos eles.34 E não havia nenhum necessitado entre eles; porque todos os que possuíam terras ou casas, vendendo-as, traziam os valores das coisas que foram vendidas,35 e os depositavam aos pés dos apóstolos. E distribuía-se a cada homem segundo a sua necessidade.36 E José a quem havia sido apelidado de Barnabé (que é, sendo traduzido, filho da consolação), levita, do país de Chipre,37 possuindo terra, vendeu-a, e trouxe o dinheiro, e o depositou aos pés dos apóstolos.

1 Now as they spoke to the people, the priests, the temple commander, and the Sadducees came near them,2 being greatly disturbed that they taught the people and preached in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.3 And they laid hands on them, and put them into custody until the next day, for it was already evening.4 However, many of those who heard the Word believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand.5 And it came to pass, on the next day, that their rulers, elders, and scribes,6 as well as Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the family of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.7 And standing them in the midst, they asked, By what sort of power or by what sort of name have you done this?8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, Rulers of the people and elders of Israel:9 If we this day are examined for a good deed done to an infirm man, by what means he has been made well,10 let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, in Him this man stands here before you whole.11 This is the Stone which was counted as nothing by you builders, which has become the Head of the Corner.12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under Heaven given among men that is required for us to be saved.13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they understood that they were with Jesus.14 And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say against it.15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,16 saying, What shall we do to these men? For indeed, that a notable sign has been done through them is evident to all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we are not able to deny it.17 But so that it spreads no further among the people, let us threaten them with a threat, that from now on they speak to no one in this name.18 And they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.19 But Peter and John answered and said to them, Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge.20 For we are not able not to speak the things which we have seen and heard.21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way of punishing them, because of the people, since they all glorified God for what had been done.22 For the man was over forty years old on whom this sign of healing had been performed.23 And being let go, they went to their own companions and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them.24 So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: Lord, You are God, who made the heavens and earth and the sea, and all that is in them,25 who by the mouth of Your servant David have said: Why did the nations rage, and the people devise vain things?26 The kings of the earth took their stand, and the rulers themselves were gathered against the Lord and against His Christ.27 For truly against Your holy Son Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together28 to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done.29 And now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants to speak Your Word with all boldness,30 by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Son Jesus.31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the Word of God with boldness.32 Now the multitude of those believing were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common.33 And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all.34 Nor was there anyone needy among them; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold,35 and placed them at the apostles’ feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need.36 And Joses, who was surnamed Barnabas by the apostles (which is translated Son of Encouragement), a Levite of the country of Cyprus,37 having land, sold it, and brought the money and placed it at the apostles’ feet.
