1 E Saulo consentiu na morte dele. E naquele dia, houve uma grande perseguição contra a igreja que estava em Jerusalém; e todos foram dispersos pelas regiões da Judeia e da Samaria, exceto os apóstolos.2 E uns homens religiosos carregaram Estêvão para seu sepultamento, e fizeram grande lamentação sobre ele.3 E Saulo devastava a igreja, entrando em cada casa, e arrastando homens e mulheres, entregava-os na prisão.4 Assim, os que andavam dispersos iam por toda parte pregando a palavra.5 Então descendo Filipe à cidade de Samaria, lhes pregava a Cristo.6 E as multidões unanimemente prestavam atenção às coisas que Filipe falava, ouvindo e vendo os milagres que ele fazia.7 Porque os espíritos imundos, clamando em alta voz, saíam de muitos que estavam possuídos por eles; e muitos paralíticos e os que eram coxos, eram curados.8 E havia grande alegria naquela cidade.9 Mas havia ali um certo homem, chamado Simão, que anteriormente exercera naquela mesma cidade a bruxaria e enfeitiçou o povo de Samaria, que se gabava ser alguém importante,10 ao qual todos davam atenção, desde o menor até ao maior, dizendo: Este homem é o grande poder de Deus.11 E para com ele tinham consideração, porque já desde muito tempo ele os havia enfeitiçado com bruxaria.12 Mas, como creram em Filipe, que lhes pregava a respeito das coisas do reino de Deus, e em nome de Jesus Cristo, eles eram batizados, tanto homens quanto mulheres.13 E o próprio Simão também creu, e, tendo sido batizado, ele continuou com Filipe e se maravilhava, vendo os milagres e sinais que eram feitos.14 Ora, quando os apóstolos que estavam em Jerusalém, ouviram que Samaria tinha recebido a palavra de Deus, eles enviaram para lá Pedro e João,15 os quais, tendo descido, oraram por eles para que eles, pudessem receber o Espírito Santo;16 (porque ainda não havia descido sobre nenhum deles, mas somente eram batizados em nome do Senhor Jesus).17 Então, lhes impuseram as suas mãos, e eles receberam o Espírito Santo.18 E Simão, vendo que pela imposição das mãos dos apóstolos era dado o Espírito Santo, ofereceu-lhes dinheiro,19 dizendo: Dai-me também este poder, para que aquele sobre quem eu impuser as mãos possa receber o Espírito Santo.20 Mas Pedro lhe disse: O teu dinheiro pereça contigo, porque pensastes que o dom de Deus se compra com dinheiro.21 Tu não tens parte nem sorte neste assunto, porque o teu coração não é reto aos olhos de Deus.22 Arrepende-te, pois, dessa tua maldade, e ora a Deus, para que, porventura o pensamento do teu coração te seja perdoado;23 porque eu percebo que estás em fel de amargura, e em laço de iniquidade.24 Respondendo, porém, Simão disse: Orai ao Senhor por mim, para que nenhuma das coisas que dissestes venha sobre mim.25 Tendo eles testificado e pregado a palavra do Senhor, retornaram para Jerusalém, e pregaram o evangelho em muitas aldeias dos samaritanos.26 E o anjo do Senhor falou a Filipe, dizendo: Levanta-te e vai em direção ao sul, pelo caminho que desce de Jerusalém para Gaza, que é deserto.27 E levantando-se, foi. E eis que um homem da Etiópia, eunuco de grande autoridade sob Candace, rainha dos etíopes, o qual era encarregado de todos os seus tesouros, havia vindo adorar em Jerusalém,28 e estava retornando, e, assentado na sua carruagem lia o profeta Isaías.29 Então, o Espírito disse a Filipe: Aproxima-te e ajunta-te a esta carruagem.30 E Filipe, correndo até ele, ouviu que lia o profeta Isaías e disse: Entendes tu o que lês?31 E ele disse: Como poderia, se algum homem não me orientar? E rogou a Filipe que subisse e com ele se assentasse.32 E o lugar da escritura que ele lia era este: Ele foi levado como ovelha para o matadouro e como cordeiro mudo diante do que o tosquia, assim ele não abriu a sua boca;33 na sua humilhação foi tirado o seu julgamento; e quem declarará a sua geração? Porque a sua vida é tirada da terra.34 E, respondendo o eunuco a Filipe, disse: Rogo-te, de quem fala o profeta isto, de si mesmo ou de algum outro homem?35 Então, abrindo Filipe a sua boca, e começando nesta mesma escritura, lhe pregou acerca de Jesus.36 E, eles indo em seu caminho, chegaram até certa água, e o eunuco disse: Eis aqui água; o que impede que eu seja batizado?37 E disse Filipe: Se tu crês de todo o teu coração, você pode. E, ele respondendo, disse: Eu creio que Jesus Cristo é o Filho de Deus.38 E ele mandou parar a carruagem, e ambos desceram à água, tanto Filipe como o eunuco, e ele o batizou.39 E quando eles subiram da água, o Espírito do Senhor arrebatou a Filipe, e o eunuco não o viu mais; e ele prosseguiu o seu caminho regozijando-se.40 Mas Filipe se achou em Azoto, e pregou em todas as cidades que passou, até que chegou a Cesareia.

1 Now Saul was consenting to his death. At that time a great persecution arose against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.3 As for Saul, he made havoc of the church, entering every house, dragging off men and women, committing them to prison.4 Therefore those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the Word.5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them.6 And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the many signs which he did.7 For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed.8 And there was great joy in that city.9 But there was a certain man called Simon, who previously used sorcery in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, claiming that he was someone great,10 to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.11 And they heeded him because he had amazed them with his sorceries for a long time.12 But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were immersed.13 Then Simon himself also believed; and when he was immersed he continued with Philip, and was amazed, seeing the works of power and signs which were done.14 Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the Word of God, they sent Peter and John to them,15 who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit.16 For as yet He had not fallen on any of them. They had only been immersed in the name of the Lord Jesus.17 Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.18 And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,19 saying, Give me this authority also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.20 But Peter said to him, Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money!21 You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not upright before God.22 Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.23 For I see that you are in bitter wickedness and bound by unrighteousness.24 Then Simon answered and said, Pray to the Lord for me, that none of the things which you have spoken may come upon me.25 So when they had testified and preached the Word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.26 Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. This is desert.27 So he arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of high office under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to do homage,28 was returning. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet.29 Then the Spirit said to Philip, Go near and join yourself to this chariot.30 So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, Do you understand what you are reading?31 And he said, How can I, unless someone guides me? And he summoned Philip to come up and sit with him.32 The place in the Scripture which he read was this: He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so He opened not His mouth.33 In His humiliation His judgment was taken away, and who will declare His generation? For His life is taken from the earth.34 So the eunuch answered Philip and said, I ask you, of whom does the prophet say this, of himself or of some other man?35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him.36 Now as they went down the road, they came upon some water. And the eunuch said, See, here is water. What prevents me from being immersed?37 Then Philip said, If you believe with all your heart, it is lawful. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.38 So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he immersed him.39 Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing.40 But Philip was found at Azotus. And passing through, he preached in all the cities till he came to Caesarea.
