1 Se entre vós se levantar um profeta, ou um sonhador de sonhos, e te der um sinal ou um prodígio,2 e acontecer o sinal ou o prodígio de que ele vos tiver falado, dizendo: Sigamos outros deuses, que não conheces, e vamos servi-los;3 não ouvirás as palavras desse profeta, ou sonhador de sonhos, porque o SENHOR vosso Deus vos prova, para saber se amais ao SENHOR vosso Deus com todo o vosso coração e com toda a vossa alma.4 Andareis após o SENHOR vosso Deus, e o temereis, e guardareis os seus mandamentos, e obedecereis à sua voz, e o servireis e vos apegareis a ele.5 E esse profeta, ou sonhador de sonhos será morto, porque falou para vos afastar do SENHOR vosso Deus, que vos tirou da terra do Egito, e vos resgatou da casa de servidão, para te tirar do caminho em que o SENHOR teu Deus ordenou que andasses. Assim tirarás o mal do meio de ti.6 Se teu irmão, o filho da tua mãe, ou o teu filho, ou a tua filha, ou a esposa do teu seio, ou o teu amigo, que é como a tua própria alma, te seduzir secretamente, dizendo: Vamos e sirvamos outros deuses, que não conheces, nem tu, nem os teus pais;7 a saber, os deuses dos povos que estão à vossa volta, perto de ti ou longe de ti, desde uma extremidade da terra até a outra extremidade da terra;8 não consentirás com ele, nem lhe darás ouvidos; nem o teu olho terá piedade dele, nem o pouparás, nem o ocultarás;9 mas certamente o matarás; a tua mão será a primeira para matá-lo, e depois dela a mão de todo o povo.10 E o apedrejarás com pedras, para que morra; porque procurou te afastar do SENHOR teu Deus, que te tirou da terra do Egito, da casa de servidão.11 E todo Israel ouvirá, e temerá, e não deverá fazer nenhuma impiedade desse tipo entre vós.12 Se ouvires dizer em alguma das tuas cidades, que o SENHOR teu Deus te deu, para que habites ali, dizendo:13 Certos homens, os filhos de Belial, saíram do meio de vós, e retiraram os habitantes da sua cidade, dizendo: Vamos e sirvamos a outros deuses que não conhecestes;14 e então investigarás, e buscarás e perguntarás diligentemente; e eis que, se for verdade, e for certo que aconteceu essa abominação entre vós;15 tu certamente ferirás os habitantes dessa cidade com o fio da espada, destruindo-a completamente, e a tudo o que nela existe, e o seu gado, com o fio da espada.16 E reunirás todos os seus despojos no meio da sua rua, e queimará com fogo a cidade e todos os seus despojos, para o SENHOR teu Deus, e será um monte para sempre; não será construída novamente.17 E não pegará nada da coisa amaldiçoada na tua mão, para que o SENHOR possa se afastar do furor de sua ira, e te mostrar misericórdia, e ter compaixão de ti, e te multiplicar, como jurou aos teus pais;18 quando ouvires a voz do SENHOR teu Deus, para guardares todos os seus mandamentos que te ordeno neste dia, para que faças o que é reto aos olhos do SENHOR teu Deus.

1 If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder,2 and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, Let us go after other gods, which you have not known, and let us serve them;3 you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for Jehovah your God is testing you to know whether you love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul.4 You shall walk after Jehovah your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice, and you shall serve Him and cleave unto Him.5 But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has spoken apostasy away from Jehovah your God, who is bringing you out of the land of Egypt and is redeeming you from the house of bondage, to thrust you out of the way in which Jehovah your God has commanded you to walk. Thus you shall put away the evil from your midst.6 If your brother, the son of your mother, your son or your daughter, the wife of your bosom, or your friend who is as your own soul, secretly entices you, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which you have not known, neither you nor your fathers,7 of the gods of the people all around you, near to you or far off from you, from one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth,8 you shall not consent to him or listen to him, nor shall your eye pity him, nor shall you spare him or conceal him;9 but you shall kill him to death; your hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people.10 And you shall stone him with stones so that he dies, because he has sought to thrust you away from Jehovah your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.11 Thus all Israel shall hear and fear, and not again do such wickedness as this among you.12 If you hear someone in one of your cities, which Jehovah your God gives you to dwell in, saying,13 Corrupt men have gone out from among you and impelled the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which you have not known;14 then you shall inquire, search out, and ask thoroughly. And if it is indeed true and the matter is firmly established that such an abomination has been done among you,15 you shall strike to kill the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword; utterly destroying it, all that is in it and its livestock, with the edge of the sword.16 And you shall gather all its plunder into the middle of the open place, and completely burn with fire the city and all its plunder, before Jehovah your God. It shall always remain a heap; it shall not be built again.17 And none of the accursed things shall cleave to your hand, that Jehovah may turn from the fierceness of His anger and show you mercy, have compassion on you and multiply you, just as He has sworn to your fathers,18 because you heeded the voice of Jehovah your God, to keep all His commandments which I am commanding you today, to do what is right in the eyes of Jehovah your God.
