1 Para cada coisa há um tempo, e um tempo para todo o propósito debaixo do céu.2 Um tempo para nascer, e um tempo para morrer; um tempo para plantar, e tempo para arrancar o que se plantou;3 um tempo para matar, e um tempo para curar; um tempo para destruir, e um tempo para construir;4 um tempo para chorar, e um tempo para rir; um tempo para prantear, e um tempo para dançar;5 um tempo para espalhar pedras, e um tempo para ajuntar pedras; um tempo para abraçar, e um tempo para evitar de abraçar;6 um tempo para adquirir, e um tempo para perder; um tempo para guardar, e um tempo para lançar fora;7 um tempo para rasgar, e um tempo para costurar; um tempo para manter silêncio, e um tempo para falar;8 um tempo para amar, e um tempo para odiar; um tempo para guerrear, e um tempo para a paz.9 Que benefício tem o trabalhador naquilo em que trabalha?10 Tenho visto o trabalho que Deus deu aos filhos dos homens, para nele serem exercidos.11 Tudo ele fez formoso em seu tempo; também pôs o mundo em seus corações, para que nenhum homem possa descobrir a obra que Deus fez desde o princípio até ao fim.12 Eu sei que não há prazer nisso, a não ser que o homem se alegre e faça o bem em sua vida;13 e também que todo o homem coma e beba, e goze do bem de todo o seu trabalho; isto é a dádiva de Deus.14 Eu sei que tudo quanto Deus faz será para sempre; nada se lhe deve acrescentar, e nada se lhe deve tirar; e isto Deus faz, para que o homem tema diante dele.15 O que é, já existiu; e o que está para ser, também já existiu; e Deus requer aquilo que passou.16 E além do mais, vi debaixo do sol que no lugar do juízo havia impiedade, e no lugar da justiça havia iniquidade.17 Eu disse em meu coração: Deus julgará o justo e o ímpio; porquanto há um tempo para todo o propósito e para toda a obra.18 Eu disse em meu coração, a respeito da condição dos filhos dos homens, que Deus os manifestaria, para que assim pudessem ver que são em si mesmos animais.19 Porque o que recai sobre os filhos dos homens, também recai sobre os animais, e lhes sucede a mesma coisa; assim como morre um, também morre o outro; porque todos têm o mesmo fôlego, de modo que o homem não tem preeminência sobre um animal; porquanto tudo é vaidade.20 Todos vão para um lugar; todos são do pó, e todos voltam ao pó.21 Quem conhece o espírito do homem que vai para cima, e o espírito do animal que vai para baixo da terra?22 Assim percebo que não há coisa melhor para o homem do que alegrar-se nas suas próprias obras, porque essa é a sua porção; porque quem o fará voltar para ver o que será depois dele?

1 To every thing there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the heavens:2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to root up what is planted;3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;5 a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;6 a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to throw away;7 a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.9 What profit does he have who works in that in which he labors?10 I have seen the task which God has given to the sons of men to keep busy.11 He has made everything beautiful in its time; also He has set eternity in their hearts, so that no man can find out the work that God has made from the beginning to the end.12 I know that there is no good for man, but to rejoice and to do good in his life.13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labor; it is the gift of God.14 I know that whatever God does, it shall be forever; nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it; and God does it so that men should fear before Him.15 That which has been, is now; and that which is to be, already has been; and God exacts what is pursued.16 Moreover I saw under the sun in the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and in the place of righteousness, that wickedness was there.17 I said in my heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked; for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.18 I said in my heart concerning the manner of the sons of men, that God tests them, that they might see that they themselves are beasts.19 For that which happens to the sons of men also happens to beasts, even one thing happens to them. As this one dies, so that one dies; yea, they all have one breath; so that a man has no advantage over a beast; for all is vanity.20 All go to one place; all are of the dust, and all return to dust again.21 Who knows the spirit of man that goes upward, and the spirit of the beast that goes downward to the earth?22 Therefore I have seen that there is nothing better than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion; for who can bring him to see what shall be after him?
