1 Depois dessas coisas, a palavra do SENHOR veio a Abrão em uma visão, dizendo: Não temas, Abrão; eu sou o teu escudo, e a tua recompensa será infinitamente grande.2 E Abrão disse: Senhor DEUS, o que me darás, visto que ando sem filhos, e o mordomo da minha casa é Eliézer de Damasco?3 E Abrão disse: Eis que não me deste semente, e eis que um nascido na minha casa é meu herdeiro.4 E eis que a palavra do SENHOR veio a ele, dizendo: Este não será teu herdeiro, mas o que sairá de tuas próprias entranhas será teu herdeiro.5 E ele o trouxe para fora e disse: Olha agora para o céu, e conta as estrelas, se tu fores capaz de contá-las; e lhe disse: Assim será a tua semente.6 E ele creu no SENHOR, e ele lhe atribuiu isto por justiça.7 E ele disse-lhe: Eu sou o SENHOR que te trouxe de Ur dos Caldeus, para te dar esta terra para herdá-la.8 E ele disse: Senhor DEUS, como eu saberei que hei de herdá-la?9 E ele lhe disse: Toma para mim uma novilha de três anos de idade, e uma cabra de três anos de idade, e um carneiro de três anos de idade, e uma rola e um pombinho.10 E tomou para ele todos estes, e os dividiu ao meio, e colocou cada parte na frente da outra, mas as aves ele não dividiu.11 E quando as aves desciam sobre as carcaças, Abrão as enxotava.12 E quando o sol estava se pondo, um profundo sono caiu sobre Abrão, e eis que um horror de grande escuridão caiu sobre ele.13 E ele disse a Abrão: Saibas com certeza que tua semente será estrangeira na terra que não é sua, e os servirão, e eles os afligirão por quatrocentos anos.14 E também a essa nação, a quem eles servirão, eu julgarei, e depois eles sairão com grandes posses.15 E tu irás para os teus pais em paz, tu serás sepultado em boa velhice.16 Mas na quarta geração, eles virão para cá novamente, pois a iniquidade dos amorreus ainda não está completa.17 E aconteceu que, quando o sol se pôs, e ficou escuro, eis que um forno de fumaça e uma lâmpada acesa passaram entre aqueles pedaços.18 No mesmo dia, o SENHOR fez um pacto com Abrão, dizendo: À tua semente eu dei esta terra, do rio do Egito até o grande rio, o rio Eufrates:19 os queneus, e os quenezeus, e os cadmoneus,20 e os heteus, e os ferezeus, e os refains,21 e os amorreus, e os cananeus, e os girgaseus, e os jebuseus.

1 After these things the Word of Jehovah came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.2 And Abram said, Lord Jehovah, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the son of the inheritance of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?3 And Abram said, Behold, You have given me no seed; and lo, a son of my house inherits from me.4 And behold, the Word of Jehovah came unto him, saying, This one shall not inherit from you, but one who shall come forth from your own body shall inherit from you.5 And He brought him outside and said, Look now toward the heavens, and count the stars if you are able to number them. And He said unto him, So shall your seed be.6 And he believed in Jehovah, and He accounted it unto him for righteousness.7 And He said unto him, I am Jehovah, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it.8 And he said, Lord Jehovah, how shall I know that I shall inherit it?9 And He said unto him, Take for Me a three year old heifer, a three year old female goat, a three year old ram, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.10 And he took all these for Him and cut them in two, down the middle, and put each piece against each other; but he did not cut the birds in two.11 And when the birds of prey came down upon the carcasses, Abram drove them away.12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, terror and great darkness fell upon him.13 And He said to Abram: Consider to know that your seed shall be sojourners in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years.14 And I will also judge the nation whom they serve; and afterward they shall come out with great possessions.15 And as for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried at a good old age.16 But in the fourth generation they shall return here; for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.17 And it came to pass, when the sun had gone down and it was dark, that behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a burning torch that passed between those pieces.18 On that day Jehovah made a covenant with Abram, saying: To your seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates;19 the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the giants,21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.
