1 Portanto, temamos, a fim de que, uma promessa nos foi deixada de entrar em seu descanso, qualquer um de vocês deve parecer estar aquém disso.2 Porque para nós o evangelho foi pregado, assim também como a eles, mas a palavra pregada não lhes serviu, não estando esta misturada com a fé daqueles que a ouviram.3 Porque nós, que temos crido, entramos no repouso, tal como ele disse: Assim como jurei na minha ira eles não entrarão no meu repouso; embora as obras estivessem consumadas desde a fundação do mundo.4 Porque ele falou em um determinado lugar do sétimo dia: E Deus repousou no sétimo dia de todas as suas obras.5 E neste lugar novamente: Não entrarão no meu repouso.6 Vendo, portanto, que ainda há alguns que devem entrar, e que aqueles que primeiro receberam a pregação não entraram por causa da incredulidade,7 novamente, ele determina um certo dia, dizendo através de Davi: Hoje, depois de muito tempo, como está dito: Hoje, se ouvirdes a sua voz, não endureçais os vossos corações.8 Porque, se Jesus lhes houvesse dado repouso, não teria falado depois disso a respeito de um outro dia.9 Portanto, ainda resta um repouso para o povo de Deus.10 Porque aquele que entrou no seu repouso, também cessou as suas próprias obras, assim como Deus repousou das suas.11 Esforcemo-nos, portanto, para entrar naquele repouso, a fim de que nenhum homem caia no mesmo exemplo de incredulidade.12 Porque a palavra de Deus é viva e poderosa, e mais afiada do que qualquer espada de dois gumes, penetrando até a divisão da alma e do espírito, e das juntas e medulas, e discerne os pensamentos e intenções do coração.13 E não há criatura alguma que não se manifeste à sua vista; porém todas as coisas estão nuas e abertas aos olhos daquele a quem temos de prestar contas.14 Sabendo que temos um grande sumo sacerdote, que adentrou os céus, Jesus, o Filho de Deus, retenhamos firmemente a nossa fé.15 Porque não temos um sumo sacerdote que não possa ser tocado com o sentimento de nossas fraquezas, porém um que em todos os pontos foi tentado, assim como nós, porém sem pecado.16 Portanto, acheguemo-nos confiantemente ao trono da graça, para que possamos obter misericórdia e achar graça e auxílio em tempo de necessidade.

1 Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear so that none of you should show evidence of falling short.2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.3 For we who believe do enter into rest, as He has said: So I swore in My wrath, They shall not enter into My rest, although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.4 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: And God rested on the seventh day from all His works;5 and again in this place: They shall not enter My rest.6 Since therefore it remains for some to enter into it, and those to whom the gospel was first preached did not enter in because of disobedience,7 again He designates a certain day, saying in David, Today, after such a long time, as it has been said: Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.8 For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day.9 There remains therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God.10 For he who has entered into His rest has himself also rested from his works as God did from His.11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter into that rest, that no one fall according to the same example of disobedience.12 For the Word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.13 And there is no creature that is not revealed in His presence, but all things are naked and laid bare to the eyes of Him to whom we must give answer.14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
