1 No ano em que Tartã veio a Asdode (quando Sargão, o rei da Assíria, o enviou) e lutou contra Asdode e a conquistou.2 Ao mesmo tempo falou o ­SENHOR por intermédio de Isaías, o filho de Amós, dizendo: Vai e despe-te da vestimenta de pano de saco de sobre teus lombos, e lança a sandália de teu pé. E ele o fez, andando nu e descalço.3 E o ­SENHOR disse: Conforme meu servo Isaías tem andado nu e descalço três anos, para um sinal e perplexidade sobre o Egito e sobre a Etiópia.4 Então, o rei da Assíria conduzirá os egípcios prisioneiros, e os etíopes cativos, jovens e velhos, nus e descalços, com suas nádegas descobertas, para a vergonha do Egito.5 E eles estarão temerosos e envergonhados da Etiópia, sua expectativa, e do Egito, sua glória.6 E o habitante desta ilha dirá naquele dia: Eis que tal é a nossa expectativa, para onde nós acudimos a buscar ajuda para sermos livrados do rei da Assíria, e como nós escaparemos?

1 In the year that Tartan came to Ashdod, when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him, and fought against Ashdod and took it;2 at that time Jehovah spoke by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, Go and loosen the sackcloth off your loins, and take your sandal off your foot. And he did so, walking naked and barefoot.3 And Jehovah said, Just as My servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot three years, as a sign and wonder to Egypt and Ethiopia;4 so shall the king of Assyria lead away Egypt as captives, and Ethiopia as exiles, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with buttocks stripped bare, to the indecent exposure of Egypt.5 And they shall be afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia their confidence, and of Egypt their glory.6 And the inhabitant of this region shall say in that day, Behold our confidence to which we have fled for help, to be delivered from the king of Assyria! And now, how shall we escape?
