1 Portanto, quando o Senhor soube que os fariseus tinham ouvido que Jesus fazia e batizava mais discípulos do que João,2 (embora o próprio Jesus não tenha batizado, mas os seus discípulos),3 ele deixou a Judeia, e partiu novamente para a Galileia.4 E era-lhe necessário passar por Samaria.5 Então ele chega a uma cidade de Samaria, que é chamada Sicar, perto das terras que Jacó deu a seu filho José.6 Ora, o poço de Jacó estava ali. Jesus, pois, cansado da sua viagem, assentou-se assim junto do poço, e era cerca da hora sexta.7 Então veio uma mulher de Samaria para tirar água. Disse-lhe Jesus: Dá-me de beber.8 (Pois seus discípulos tinham ido à cidade para comprar alimento).9 Então, disse-lhe a mulher samaritana: Como é que tu, sendo um judeu, pedes de beber a mim, que sou mulher de Samaria? Porque os judeus não se relacionam com os samaritanos.10 Jesus respondeu e disse-lhe: Se tu conheceras o dom de Deus, e quem é o que te diz: Dá-me de beber, tu lhe pedirias, e ele te daria água viva.11 Disse-lhe a mulher: Senhor, tu não tens com que a tirar, e o poço é fundo; onde, pois, tens a água viva?12 És tu maior do que Jacó, o nosso pai, que nos deu o poço, do qual ele mesmo bebeu, e os seus filhos, e o seu gado?13 Jesus respondeu e disse-lhe: Qualquer que beber desta água terá sede novamente;14 mas aquele que beber da água que eu lhe der nunca terá sede, mas a água que eu lhe der, se fará nele uma fonte de água a jorrar para a vida eterna.15 Disse-lhe a mulher: Senhor, dá-me dessa água, para que eu não tenha sede e não venha aqui tirá-la.16 Disse-lhe Jesus: Vai, chama o teu marido e vem cá.17 A mulher respondeu e disse: Eu não tenho marido. Disse-lhe Jesus: Tu disseste bem: Eu não tenho marido;18 porque tu tiveste cinco maridos, e o que agora tens não é teu marido; isso disseste com verdade.19 Disse-lhe a mulher: Senhor, Eu vejo que tu és um profeta.20 Nossos pais adoraram neste monte, e vós dizeis que é em Jerusalém o lugar onde o homem deve adorar.21 Disse-lhe Jesus: Mulher, crê-me, a hora vem, em que nem neste monte, nem em Jerusalém adorareis o Pai.22 Vós adorais o que não conheceis, nós adoramos o que conhecemos, porque a salvação é dos judeus.23 Mas a hora vem, e agora é, em que os verdadeiros adoradores adorarão o Pai em espírito e em verdade, porque o Pai procura a tais para adorá-lo.24 Deus é um Espírito, e os que o adoram devem adorá-lo em espírito e em verdade.25 A mulher disse-lhe: Eu sei que vem o Messias, que se chama o Cristo; quando ele vier, nos anunciará todas as coisas.26 Jesus disse-lhe: Eu o sou, o que fala contigo.27 E nisto vieram os seus discípulos e maravilharam-se de que ele estivesse falando com a mulher; todavia, nenhum homem lhe disse: O que tu procuras? Ou: Por que tu falas com ela?28 A mulher então, deixou o seu cântaro, e foi no caminho da cidade, e disse aos homens:29 Vinde, vede um homem que me disse todas as coisas que eu tenho feito; não é este o Cristo?30 Então, eles saíram da cidade e foram até ele.31 Enquanto isso os seus discípulos lhe suplicavam, dizendo: Mestre, come.32 Mas ele lhes disse: Eu tenho um alimento para comer, que vós não conheceis.33 Portanto, os discípulos diziam uns aos outros: Acaso algum homem lhe trouxe algo de comer?34 Jesus disse-lhes: O meu alimento é fazer a vontade daquele que me enviou, e completar a sua obra.35 Não dizeis vós: Ainda há quatro meses, e então virá a colheita? Eis que eu vos digo: Levantai os vossos olhos, e vede os campos, porque eles já estão brancos para a colheita.36 E o que ceifa recebe salário, e ajunta fruto para a vida eterna; para que o que semeia e o que ceifa possam juntamente se regozijar.37 Porque nisto é verdadeiro o ditado: Um é o que semeia, e outro, o que ceifa.38 Eu vos enviei a ceifar onde vós não trabalhastes; outros homens trabalharam, e vós entrastes no seu trabalho.39 E muitos samaritanos daquela cidade creram nele, por causa da palavra da mulher, que testificou: Ele me disse tudo que eu tenho feito.40 Assim então os samaritanos foram até ele, e pediram-lhe que ficasse com eles; e ele ficou ali dois dias.41 E muitos mais creram por causa da sua própria palavra;42 e diziam à mulher: Já não é pelo que disseste que nós cremos; porque nós mesmos o temos ouvido, e sabemos que este é verdadeiramente o Cristo, o Salvador do mundo.43 Ora, após os dois dias, ele partiu de lá, e foi para a Galileia.44 Porque Jesus mesmo testificou que um profeta não tem honra na sua própria terra.45 Então, quando ele chegou à Galileia, os galileus o receberam, porque viram todas as coisas que fizera em Jerusalém no dia da festa; porque também eles foram à festa.46 Assim Jesus veio novamente a Caná da Galileia, onde ele da água fizera vinho. E havia ali um nobre, cujo filho estava enfermo em Cafarnaum.47 Ouvindo este que Jesus vinha da Judeia para a Galileia, foi até ele e pediu-lhe para descer e curar o seu filho, porque ele já estava à morte.48 Então, Jesus lhe disse: Se não virdes sinais e maravilhas, não crereis.49 O nobre disse-lhe: Senhor, desce, antes que meu filho morra.50 Disse-lhe Jesus: Vai pelo teu caminho, o teu filho vive. E o homem creu na palavra que Jesus lhe disse, e ele foi em seu caminho.51 E, enquanto ele descia, saíram-lhe ao encontro os seus servos e lhe contaram dizendo: O teu filho vive.52 Perguntou-lhes, pois, a que hora ele começara a melhorar; e disseram-lhe: Ontem à sétima hora a febre o deixou.53 Assim o pai reconheceu que foi na mesma hora em que Jesus lhe dissera: O teu filho vive; e creu ele, e toda a sua casa.54 Este foi o segundo milagre que Jesus fez, quando ele ia da Judeia para a Galileia.
1 Therefore, when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and immersed more disciples than John2 (though Jesus Himself did not immerse, but His disciples),3 He left Judea and departed again into Galilee.4 And He needed to go through Samaria.5 So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.6 Now Jacobs well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.7 A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, Give Me a drink.8 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.9 Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman? For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.10 Jesus answered and said to her, If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, Give Me a drink, you would have asked Him, and He would give you living water.11 The woman said to Him, Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water?12 Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?13 Jesus answered and said to her, Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again,14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will not ever thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into eternal life.15 The woman said to Him, Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.16 Jesus said to her, Go, call your husband, and come here.17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said to her, You have well said, I have no husband,18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.19 The woman said to Him, Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.20 Our fathers did homage on this mountain, and you say that in Jerusalem is the right place to do homage.21 Jesus said to her, Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will do homage to the Father neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem.22 You do homage to what you do not know; we do homage to what we know, for salvation is of the Jews.23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will do homage to the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father seeks such to do homage to Him.24 God is Spirit, and those who do homage to Him must do homage in spirit and truth.25 The woman said to Him, I know that Messiah is coming (who is called Christ). When He comes, He will make known all things to us.26 Jesus said to her, I AM! the One speaking to you.27 And at this point His disciples came, and they marveled that He talked with a woman; yet no one said, What do You seek? or, Why are You talking with her?28 The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men,29 Come, see a Man who told me everything that I ever did. Is this not the Christ?30 Then they went out of the city and came to Him.31 In the meantime His disciples urged Him, saying, Rabbi, eat.32 But He said to them, I have food to eat of which you do not know.33 Therefore the disciples said to one another, Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?34 Jesus said to them, My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.35 Do you not say, There are yet four months and then comes the harvest? Behold, I say to you, Lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest.36 And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.37 For in this the saying is true: One sows and another reaps.38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed into Him because of the word of the woman who testified, He told me everything that I ever did.40 So when the Samaritans had come to Him, they begged Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days.41 And many more believed through His Word.42 And they said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is truly the Christ, the Savior of the world.43 Now after two days He departed from there and went into Galilee.44 For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.45 So when He came into Galilee, the Galileans received Him, having seen all the things He did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they also had gone to the feast.46 So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum.47 When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and begged Him to come down and heal his son, for he was about to die.48 Then Jesus said to him, Unless you see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.49 The nobleman said to Him, Sir, come down before my child dies!50 Jesus said to him, Go your way; your son lives. So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way.51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, Your son lives!52 Then he inquired of them the hour when he got better. And they said to him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, Your son lives. And he himself believed, and his whole household.54 This again is the second sign Jesus did when He had come out of Judea into Galilee.
