1 A palavra que Jeremias, o profeta, falou para Baruque, o filho de Nerias, quando ele escreveu estas palavras em um livro, da boca de Jeremias, no quarto ano de Jeoiaquim, o filho de Josias, rei de Judá, dizendo:2 Assim diz o SENHOR, o Deus de Israel, para ti, ó Baruque:3 Tu disseste: Ai de mim agora! Porque o SENHOR tem somado tristeza à minha dor. Eu desfaleci em meu lamento, e eu não encontro descanso.4 Desta forma tu lhe dirás: O SENHOR diz assim: Eis que aquilo que eu construí, eu irei destruir, e aquilo que plantei, irei desarraigar, até mesmo toda esta terra.5 E tu buscas grandes coisas para ti? Não as busques, pois eis que eu trarei o mal sobre toda carne, diz o SENHOR, porém tua vida eu darei a ti por um despojo, em todos os lugares para onde tu fores.

1 The word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,2 Thus says Jehovah the God of Israel, to you, O Baruch:3 You said, Woe is me now, for Jehovah has added grief to my sorrow. I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest.4 Thus you shall say unto him, Thus says Jehovah: Behold, what I have built I will break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up, even all this land.5 And do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them; for behold, I will bring evil on all flesh, says Jehovah. But I will give your life to you as a prize in all places wherever you go.
