1 A palavra do SENHOR que veio a Jeremias, o profeta, contra os filisteus, antes que Faraó afligisse Gaza.2 Assim diz o SENHOR: Eis que águas levantam-se do norte, e será uma inundação transbordante, e inundará a terra e tudo o que nela há, a cidade, e aqueles que nela habitam. Então os homens clamarão, e todos os habitantes da terra gemerão.3 Ao barulho estrepitoso dos cascos dos seus fortes cavalos, ao correr das suas carruagens, e ao estrondo de suas rodas, os pais não olharão para trás para suas crianças, pela fraqueza das mãos.4 Por causa do dia que vem para despojar todos os filisteus, e para cortar de Tiro e Sidom todo ajudador que restou, pois o SENHOR despojará os filisteus, o remanescente da região de Caftor.5 A calvície virá sobre Gaza; Asquelom será cortada com o remanescente do seu vale. Até quando cortarás a ti mesmo?6 Ó tu, espada do SENHOR, até quando não descansarás? Acomoda-te em tua bainha, descansa, e aquieta-te.7 Como pode estar quieta, visto que o SENHOR lhe deu uma ordem contra Asquelom, e contra a costa marítima? Lá ele o determinou.

1 The Word of Jehovah that came unto Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck Gaza.2 Thus says Jehovah: Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land and all its fullness; the city and those who dwell in it. And the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl.3 At the noise of the stamping of the hooves of his strong horses, at the rushing of his chariots, the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back for their children because of feebleness of hands;4 because of the day that comes to plunder all the Philistines and to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every survivor who helps. For Jehovah will plunder the Philistines, the rest of the regions of Caphtor.5 Baldness has come upon Gaza. Ashkelon is cut off with the rest of their valley. For how long will you cut yourself off?6 O sword of Jehovah, how long will it be until you are quiet? Put yourself into your sheath; rest and be still.7 How can it be quiet, since Jehovah has given it a command? He has appointed it there against Ashkelon, and against the seashore.
