1 Então, respondeu Zofar, o naamatita, e disse:2 Não deveria a multidão de palavras ser respondida? E deveria um homem cheio de discurso ser justificado?3 Deveriam tuas mentiras fazer com que os homens mantenham sua paz? E quando zombares, nenhum homem te envergonhará?4 Porque tu disseste: A minha doutrina é pura, e eu sou limpo aos teus olhos.5 Mas, ah, se Deus falasse e abrisse os seus lábios contra ti;6 e que te mostrasse os segredos da sabedoria, que são o dobro para aquele que a tem! Sabe, pois, que Deus requer de ti menos do que merece a tua iniquidade.7 Tu poderás, pela busca, encontrar a Deus? Poderás encontrar o Todo-Poderoso até a perfeição?8 É tão alto como o céu; o que tu podes fazer? É mais profundo do que o inferno; o que tu podes saber?9 A sua medida é mais comprida do que a terra, e mais larga do que o mar.10 Se ele corta, fecha, ou ajunta, então quem poderá impedi-lo?11 Porque ele conhece os homens vãos; ele também vê a maldade; ele não considerará então isso?12 Pois homem vão seria sábio, embora o homem nasça como um potro de jumento selvagem.13 Se tu preparas o teu coração, e estendes as tuas mãos na direção dele;14 se a iniquidade estiver na tua mão, lança-a para longe de ti, e não deixes a maldade habitar em teus tabernáculos.15 Porque então levantarás a tua face sem mácula; sim, tu estarás firme, e não temerás.16 Porque te esquecerás da tua miséria, e lembrar-te-ás dela como das águas que passam;17 e a tua era será mais clara do que o meio-dia; tu resplandecerás, serás como a manhã.18 E tu estarás seguro, porque há esperança; sim, olharás ao redor de ti e terás teu descanso em segurança.19 Também deitar-te-ás, e ninguém te causará medo; sim, muitos farão pedidos a ti.20 Mas os olhos dos perversos falharão, e eles não escaparão; e a sua esperança será como o render do espírito.
1 Then Zophar the Naamathite answered and said:2 Should not the multitude of words be answered? And should a man giving lip be justified?3 Should your empty talk make men hold their peace? And when you mock, should no one make you ashamed?4 For you have said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in Your eyes.5 But oh that God would speak, and open His lips against you,6 that He would show you the secrets of wisdom! For they would double your wisdom. Know therefore that God forgets some of your iniquity.7 Can you search and find out God? Can you find out the limits of the Almighty?8 They are higher than the heavens; what can you do? Deeper than Sheol; what can you know?9 Their measure is longer than the earth and broader than the sea.10 If He passes by, imprisons, and gathers together, then who can repulse Him?11 For He knows the vanity of men; He sees wickedness also. Will He not then consider it?12 For an empty-headed man will be wise, when a wild asss colt is born a man.13 If you have prepared your heart, and spread out your hands toward Him;14 if iniquity is in your hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in your tents.15 Then surely you shall lift up your face without blemish; yea, you shall be steadfast, and not fear;16 because you shall forget your misery, and remember it as waters that have passed away,17 and your lifetime shall arise more than the brightness of the noonday. Though you were dark, you shall be like the morning.18 And you shall be secure, because there is hope; yea, you shall dig around you, and rest in safety.19 You shall also lie down, and no one shall cause you to tremble; yea, many shall entreat your favor.20 But the eyes of the wicked will fail, and their place of escape shall perish; and their hope, as the expiring of the soul!
